Housewife Pours Hot Water On Mate

(NAN) – 30-year-old housewife, Hadiza Abba, on Monday appeared before an Area Court in Jos, Plateau, for allegedly causing grievous hurt to her co-wife.

"The suspect boiled hot water and poured on one Mrs Zainab Abba that they are married to the same husband."

The police First Information Report (FIR) stated that the accused committed the offence on Aug. 4, at about 3p.m.

The FIR said that on Aug. 13, at about 5p.m, one Sagiru Maishanu went to the `C` Division police station in Jos and reported that the accused had committed the offence.

It said that the complainant, who was the brother of the victim, told the police that the action of the accused had made his sister to sustain severe burnt.

"The victim has sustained severe burn on her back and breast, and she was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

"The action of the accused has contravened Section 242 of the Penal Code law," the FIR said.

When the FIR was read to the accused, she pleaded not guilty to the charge and her Counsel, Mr A. S. Umar, applied to the court for her bail.

Umar said that his client was presumed innocent until proven otherwise by the court and that she was ready to provide competent surety if given the bail.

The Police Prosecutor, Mr Mubas Rafan, objected to the bail application of the accused, saying that the police was still investigating the matter.

Rafan said that the victim had sustained serious hurt from the action of the accused and she did not deserve bail.

The Presiding Officers, Mrs Halima Bala and Mrs Mary Izang, however, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.

The court adjourned the case to Sept. 16 for hearing.

Nigerian Girl Stabbed To Death In Abidjan

(NAN) – The death of a Nigerian girl, Queen Ebimaho, has left some Nigerians in Abidjan, living with fear of insecurity.

Ebimaho, was on Aug. 24, found dead in a pool of her own blood inside her room in a brothel in Ajame, Abidjan.

Eyewitnesses told reporters that the corpse of the girl who only arrived Abidjan about two months ago had a series of punctures.

She is said to have been brought into the country by a Nigerian lady identified as Joy Larry.

Many Nigerian girls who are regularly trafficked into the country take to prostitution as a means of survival.

Although no case of death has occurred in the past six months, many of the girls face undue harassment and intimidation from men who patronise them.

Meanwhile some Nigerians residing in Ajame who spoke to journalists have accused the Consular Officer in the Nigerian Embassy, Mr Obinna Ogbonna of treating issues concerning Ebimaho's death with levity.

They accused the consular officer of failing to make official report to the relevant authorities in the host country to ensure adequate investigations into the cause of the dead.

According to them, the embassy also refused to play any role in the burial of the dead Nigerian in spite of repeated calls on the consular officer.

When contacted, Ogbonna confirmed the dead of the Nigerian, saying: "she died from injuries that looked like stabs from a yet to be identified person

"We took the matter officially to the Ivorian police and we were told that she was stabbed.

"But the girl in question has no consular card, our investigations show that she is just about two months old in the country,'' he said.

He said the corpse was taken for burial by a Nigerian identified as Osas, who also resides in Ajame without any official information to the embassy.

Ozil Signs For Arsenal, As Manchester United Seal Fellaini Deal

Arsenal have completed the signing of attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid, smashing their club record in the process.

The 24-year-old German international is regarded as one of the finest talents in Europe and arrives in London after three successful seasons in the Spanish capital.

Ozil completed his medical on Monday in Germany, where he is with the national squad, and Arsenal say he has signed a long-term contract.

The fee for Ozil has not been disclosed but a figure of £42.4m is being reported.

"I am thrilled to be joining a club of the stature of Arsenal and am looking forward to playing in the Premier League," said Ozil.

"It will be great for my own personal development as a player and I am particularly looking forward to working with (manager) Arsene Wenger.

"From our negotiations it is clear the club has huge ambition and I look forward to being part of an exciting future."

Wenger added: "We are extremely pleased to have signed Mesut Ozil.

"He is a great player, with proven quality at both club and international level. We have watched and admired him for some time, as he has all the attributes I look for in an Arsenal player.

"I have said throughout the summer that we have been working hard to bring in top quality players to this football club.

"This has involved many, many people across the club and I have always had the full support of the club in making decisions on the football side.

"Mesut is a top quality footballer who will be a fantastic addition to our talented squad. We are all looking forward to him joining up with us after his international matches with Germany and working with us as an Arsenal player."

The Gunners have been criticised in the past for not spending heavily in the transfer market but they have now splashed out on a player with 47 Germany caps, who became available after Real completed the world record signing of Gareth Bale from Tottenham.

Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis said: "This is an exciting day for all of us. We have signed a world-class player who is one of Europe's brightest young talents.

"Mr Kroenke, our controlling owner, has always fully supported Arsene and the club in making significant investments to strengthen our squad and to bring in talented players, who fit our style and ambitions.

"Like all of us, Mr Kroenke wants to see Arsenal winning titles and trophies and he has absolute faith and belief in our manager to achieve that. We will continue to work towards that goal and look forward to an exciting season."

In related news, Manchester United finally secured the signature of Everton's Marouane Fellaini during the closing stages of transfer deadline day for £27.5m.

The 25-year-old midfielder had been linked with a move to Old Trafford throughout the summer and was the subject of a failed £36m joint-bid with left-back Leighton Baines.

Having been given permission by Belgium to delay joining up with the national squad ahead of their World Cup qualifier with Scotland, Fellaini handed in a transfer request late on Monday in a bid to push through the move.

One hour after the transfer deadline passed at 11pm, it was revealed that United had eventually secured their man after completing the necessary paperwork.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has been unhappy with United's pursuit of his players and called the original joint bid for Fellaini and Baines as "derisory and insulting", but it will be good news for United boss David Moyes who is reunited with his former player.

Fellaini leaves Goodison Park having joined them from Standard Liege six years ago for £15m.

It was a positive conclusion to what was a rather frustrating transfer window for Moyes whose only other signing in the summer was full-back Guillermo Varela, while he failed to sign Athletic Bilbao's Ander Herrera amid suggestions imposters posed as United officials.

United had also targeted a late loan swoop for Real Madrid's Fabio Coentrao but there was no confirmation of a deal in the hours after the deadline and it is understood they may not have completed the paperwork in time.

Moyes has nevertheless insisted that he has total faith in the squad already at his disposal as he plots United's Premier League title defence after succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson as manager.

"From what I saw of the players, I'm more than happy with the players I've got," he said after United's 1-0 loss to Liverpool on Sunday.

Everton, meanwhile, will be pleased that they managed to hold on to Baines and were also able to bring in three new players on deadline day.

Midfielder James McCarthy was snared from Wigan Athletic, Romelu Lukaku joined on loan from Chelsea and a loan deal was also completed for Manchester City's Gareth Barry.

Pastor Rapes Woman In Church During ‘Spiritual Bath’

A 46-year-old Pastor, Olamide Sobowale, of Glory Church of Christ Aladura, Oke-Itoku, Abeokuta, Ogun State, has been ordered to be remanded in prison for allegedly raping a woman while bathing in his church backyard.

Pastor Sobowale, who was arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta, yesterday, was accused of raping one Dupe Makinde, 30, who lives in Isaje, Abeokuta, while taking a spiritual bath allegedly recommended by the pastor.

The prosecuting counsel, Paul Etusi, told the court that the accused grabbed the complainant while she was in a bathroom within the church premises and raped her.

Etusi said the complainant had already put the soap on her face as she began bathing when the pastor suddenly entered the bathroom, grabbed and raped her with soap on her face.

According to Etusi, the accused had told Mrs. Makinde that he had a vision about the her and asked her to come for deliverance in his church.

He said: "He asked the woman to come to the church to take a spiritual bath for her deliverance, but, while the complainant was taking her bath, the accused barged into the bathroom, grabbed the woman and raped her.

"The accused has committed an offence contrary to section 357 and punishable under section 358 of criminal code of law of Ogun State, Nigeria, 2006."

Magistrate A. Araba after listening to the prosecuting counsel, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison till he gets advice from the Director of Public Prosecution and adjourned the case till September 16,2013.

Wizard of Oz has the magic: Mesut can quash the unease at the Emirates

His arrival will surely pacify disgruntled Arsenal followers, and put an end to all the carping over Arsene Wenger's transfer inactivity, but no one should be too surprised to see Mesut Ozil in the role of peacemaker.

As a third generation Turkish-German immigrant, Arsenal's £40million-plus capture from Real Madrid has known division and rancour from an early age, growing up in the tough Bismark district of Gelsenkirchen, where the spread of nationalities was such that they could have staged a World Cup of their own.

His grandfather on his dad Mustafa's side had arrived from Turkey in 1961 with a single suitcase, not a word of German and a vague promise of a job down the mines. It was a challenging start to life in Germany, and it didn't get much easier for his grandson.

'I grew up kicking a ball around with kids from all sorts of different backgrounds,' he said. 'When we played organised games, I was always in teams that were multi-cultural. There were Lebanese, Poles, Turks, Germans, you  name it.

'It was a hard area, and it could have been a recipe for trouble, but we learned to get on.

'We didn't solve our problems by fighting but by playing football.  We gradually became like one big family, helping each other as much as we could, and it became like a lesson for life.

'I'm a big believer in inclusion, in people integrating as much as possible, because, as has been the case in Germany, it makes for a more colourful and happier country.

'For me, the combination of  ethnic backgrounds has worked perfectly. My technique and feel for the ball comes from my Turkish side, while the discipline, attitude and give-your-all mentality is the  German in me.'

Ozil's efforts, before leaving  Werder Bremen for Real, earned him a prestigious Bambi media award in recognition of the progress he had made in promoting integration among the various sections of  German society.

Similarly, he can be counted on to restore harmony between Wenger and the agitators among Arsenal's supporters, judging by the accolades that have accompanied him to north London.

Germany Under 21 coach Horst Hrubesch likened him to Lionel Messi, while the senior side's  manager Joachim Low hailed him as a 'genius' and his former Real  team-mate Xabi Alonso added: 'He is the kind of player you don't tend to come across these days. His understanding of the game and ability to unlock teams with a  combination or incisive pass sets him aside from the rest.'

Chelsea's ex-Real manager Jose Mourinho typically did not hold back in his assessment of the  Germany playmaker, enthusing: 'He is unique. There is no copy of him — not even a bad one. He is the best No 10 in the world. Everyone loves him and sees a bit of Luis Figo and Zinedine Zidane in him.'

The 24-year-old's reputation has been built on an eye for a pass, normally with his favoured left foot, that ensures the assists keep  stacking up. But while many wait with eager anticipation to see an artist at work, there is another more basic attribute that should go down well with Wenger and an Arsenal crowd desperate for an end to their barren run.

'He believes in working hard,' said his father Mustafa. 'He is happy to drop deep to get the ball, so much so that he runs between 12 and 14 miles virtually every game.

'He collects the ball from deep  positions and distributes from behind to the front.

'That is what set him aside from Messi in Spain. While Messi expects his Barcelona team-mates to do the work for him, Mesut is happy to cover the ground. He expends a lot of energy every time.'

One thing Ozil will demand from his new colleagues is some respect for his Muslim beliefs, not least his insistence on reciting from the Koran before every game.

'Before going out on the pitch, I spend a few moments in prayer, and my team-mates know they cannot talk to me during that brief period,' he said. 'It gives me strength, whereas if I don't do it, I get a bad feeling. It is something I must always do.'

Who is this guy and what is he up to with just only a 'wicked' pant showing his thing, hanging out with Ms Toni Payne, a suspended married woman who is still begging her husband to take her back?

I hope that 9ice will not see this and change his mind if he is already considering taking her back as his wife.
