Admission For 2013/2014 Session Into Nigerian Universities Should End October 31 – JAMB

(NAN) – The Registrar, Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Dibu Ojerinde, has urged admission officers in the universities to adhere strictly to the Federal Government guidelines. He also said the admission into Nigeria universities for the 2013/2014 session should end before October 31.

Mr. Ojerinde said this at the 1st Technical Committee Meeting on 2013/2014 Admissions to Most Preferred Degree Awarding Institutions in Uyo on Tuesday.

The meeting was organised for university admission officers across the country.

He said that the admission officers should be transparent in whatever actions and decisions they make during the admission process.

"You are reminded to strictly follow the guidelines as outlined by the proprietors of your institutions and the (60:40) Science/Arts ratio for universities and other degree awarding institutions.

"The Federal Government's approved criteria of merit (is) 45 per cent; catchments 35 per cent and educationally-less developed states, 20 per cent.

:All stakeholders are to ensure strict compliance to these criteria as the Federal Government is desirous of giving all Nigerians equal opportunity to mix and educate freely in every part of the country," he said.

The registrar reminded the university administrators that all admissions for 2013/2014 session would come to an end on Oct. 31.

He said the board expected that the quota for each course and the criteria used for admitting the candidates should be on the right print-outs issued to them by the JAMB.

Despite the ongoing strike by university lecturers, ASUU, which is in its seventh week, many universities have continued their admission process and conducted the post-UTME examination with the lecturers threatening to invalidate the exercise.

In his remarks, the Akwa Ibom Commissioner for Education, Atim Antai, who declared the meeting open, said that education was an agent for sustainable development and should not be left to chance

Mr. Atim emphasised that education policies should be deliberately planned and rationally executed for good results.

She said that the state government gave prompt attention to complaints and reports concerning education with a view to reducing possible adverse consequences on the academic performance of students.

The commissioner called on JAMB to carry out intensive sensitisation and enlightenment of the public and students on the computer-based testing.

"Let me reiterate the determination of my ministry to cooperate with JAMB in the task of conducting a credible UTME in Akwa Ibom.

"The ministry has already put in place an Examination Watch Group to monitor all examinations conducted by the board and other examining bodies with a view to making such examinations credible and examination ethics-compliant," she said.

Mayhem In Ikorodu As Policeman Kills Okada Rider, Shoots Woman

Mayhem Broke out in Ladega, Ojubode area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, on Tuesday after a policeman attached to the Rapid Response Squad allegedly killed a commercial motorcycle rider, popularly called okada rider.

We learnt that the policeman, identified simply as Haruna, in company with three of his colleagues, had arrested the okada riders for allegedly breaking the state traffic law. He opened fire on the rider, identified only as Lekan, when he reisisted the arrest.

It was learnt that a passerby, Modikat Babatunde, was also hit by the bullet.

Chairman, Motorcycle Operators Association of Lagos State, Ikorodu Branch, Mr. Kayode Jimoh, told our correspondent that the incident occurred around 2.30pm.

Jimoh said, "Around 2.30pm, four policemen attached to RRS came in a white Toyota Hilux van and parked around Ladega junction. The police driver remained inside the van while three policemen, identified as Haruna, Ayodele and Ismaila, alighted from the vehicle.

"The policemen were trying to seize the bike from Lekan but he resisted. Haruna suddenly cocked his rifle and opened fire, killing him on the spot. The bullet also injured a woman who was close by."

It was learnt that the incident compounded the usual traffic snarl in the area as colleagues of the deceased protested the killing of their colleague.

The killer policeman and his team were said to have fled after the incident.

The second victim, Babatunde, it was learnt, sustained a superficial injury on her hand.

Babatunde said, "I went to collect N50,000 as part of my contribution to a cooperative society when I heard gunshots. The bullet hit me in the hand but it did not penetrate.

"Unfortunately, in the pandemonium, the N50,000 was stolen. The government must see to it that those policemen are brought to justice."

Jimoh lamented the extortion by policemen, adding that he had complained many times to the police authorities about the excesses of RRS policemen.

He said it was unfortunate that many okada riders had been killed in the state by policemen since the enforcement of traffic law began last year and no policeman had been arrested.

He said, "Haruna and his colleagues are very notorious for extortion, most times they don't even arrest errant okada riders. They go to places that are not restricted and seize the motorcycles.

"They then take the okada to Agric area of Ikorodu and urge you to negotiate the release of the impounded okadas. They usually extort between N10, 000 and N20,000 from us before releasing our bikes."

It was learnt that the commander, RRS, ACP Hakeem Odumosu, came to the area to restore normalcy. Odumosu was said to have promised the irate mob that justice would be served.

Soldiers were also said to have arrived the area to assist the police.

As of 6pm, however, the mob refused to allow the police to take the corpse away as they alleged foul play.

When contacted on the telephone, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, said she would call back as she had yet to get full details on the incident.

In a related develpment, a policeman allegedly shot and killed a youth in Ajah area of the state.

The youth was said to have been killed by the police because he stabbed another man in Ilaje area during a clash. [Punch Metro]

We Didn’t Authorise Statement Announcing Shekau’s Death – Defence Headquarters

(Punch) – The Defence Headquarters appears not to have authorised the release of the statement announcing the feared death of the dreaded leader of the Boko Haram Islamic sect, Abubakar Shekau, on Monday.
Emerging trend and investigation conducted by our correspondent revealed that the Defence Headquarters was surprised by the statement announcing that Shekau might have been killed, which came out on the day a new Division of the Nigerian Army took over from the Joint Task Force and was assigned the sole responsibility of continuing with the war against the insurgents.

A source said on Tuesday that the Chief of Defence Staff, Vice-Admiral Ola Ibrahim, and the top leadership of the Defence Headquarters were still considering how to verify the pending issue of Shekau's killing when the statement announcing his death was released.

It was gathered that the CDS was still considering sending troops to the Camerounian town of Amitchide to carry out an extensive search operation in the area for graves to explore the possibility of a DNA exercise, when the news was released.

Investigations revealed that the JTF sent a report on the issue of the killing of Shekau to the DHQ but the CDS and other top military officers were said to have advised that there was a need for a proper verification before the release of the death of somebody of Shekau's status.

The source said that the decision of the CDS was taken because of the fact that even the JTF personnel, who claimed to have killed Shekau were in doubt.

It was learnt that while the military high command was doubtful of the August 13 video purportedly released by Shekau, efforts were geared towards getting more concrete proofs of his death.

The source said, "We were discussing with the CDS on what steps to take on this issue; there was also need to send troops to the Camerounian community to verify this claim, conduct a comprehensive search of the area and then conduct a DNA if possible.

"They sent a report to the CDS, and the DHQ said that there was need to verify the claim because they themselves were not sure; this thing happened long ago in June; and they are releasing the information suddenly.

"The CDS did not authorise the release on this information on Shekau; the DHQ was still trying to verify it…"

When our correspondent contacted the Director of Defence Information, Brig. Gen Chris Olukolade, the repeated calls placed to his mobile telephone line did not connect.

The Spokesman of the JTf, Col, Musa Sagir, had said in a statement on Monday, said that Shekau received serious gunshot wounds during a gun duel at the Sambisa Forest on June 30 which might have culminated in his death.

"Shekau was mortally wounded in the encounter and was sneaked into Amitchide – a border community in Cameroun for treatment which he never recovered.

"It is greatly believed that Shekau might have died between 25 July to 3 August, 2013." The statement read in part.

Boko Haram Leader, Shekau, May Have Died Of Gunshot Wounds – JTF

Boko Haram Leader, Abubakar Shekau
Boko Haram Leader, Abubakar Shekau
The Joint Task Force, Operation Restore Order, in Maiduguri, Borno State said intelligence report available to it “revealed that Abubakur Shekau, the most dreaded and wanted Boko Haram Terrorists leader may have died”. The JTF in a statement by its spokesperson, Sagir Musa, on Monday said Mr. Shekau “died of gunshot wound received in an encounter with the JTF troops in one of their camps at Sambisa Forest on 30 June 2013.”
According to the statement, “Shekau was mortally wounded in the encounter and was sneaked into Amitchide – a border community in Cameroun for treatment which he never recovered.”
“It is greatly believed that Shekau might have died between 25 July to 3 August, 2013. He was reported to have masterminded the kidnap of the seven French citizens and that of the elder statesman Alhaji (Dr) Shettima Ali Monguno in addition to many murders of Islamic clerics in Northern Nigeria.
“He was also responsible for bombings of many places of worship and public buildings including Police and United Nations Headquarters in Abuja,” the statement said.
It also said the recent video released on 13 August, 20013 by the purported sect leader was “dramatized by an imposter to hoodwink the sect members to continue with the terrorism and to deceive the undiscerning minds”.
“The JTF wishes to appeal to the sect members to lay down their arms and embrace the Federal Government’s offer for dialogue,” the statement added.

ASUU Strike Continues As FG, Lecturers Fail To Reach Agreement Once Again

asuu
The resumed negotiation between the federal government and the Academic Staff Union Of Universities (ASUU) has once again reached a stalemate.
The meeting, which held at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, was attended by the Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; Minister of Labour, Emeka Nwogwu; Minister of Education, Rukayyatu Rufai; and the Benue State Governor and head of the government’s delegation, Gabriel Suswam.
Speaking at the end of a meeting with the FG team led by Benue State governor Gabriel Suswam, the ASUU president, Dr. Nasir Isa Fagge said it has resolved to continue the strike until the government meets its demands.
The federal government team had earlier proposed to pay N30 billion out of the N90 billion being demanded by ASUU as part of the earned allowance
The ASUU president said, “The objective of going on strike is to get government to implement the 2009 ASUU/ FGN agreement. Particularly to implement the provision of the memorandum of understanding we reached in 2012.
“It’s important to clarify that at this point, we are not making a demand. There was an agreement with government. At this point what the union is talking about is the 2009 agreement, not the renegotiation of the agreement”
Asked when the strike will be called off, Fagge said, “We will wait to hear from government. For now, we will go back and report to our principals.”
Speaking earlier, the secretary to the federal government, Ayim Pius Ayim, said the issue of earned allowance which the union was demanding for N92 billion, the Federal Government was willing to release N30 billion.
He said, “We can say that virtually all matters have been resolved. The only issue that remains a bit contentious is that of earned allowance. What the federal government has proposed to do is to release N30 billion to the University council to address the issue of earned allowance.
“ASUU has promised to report to their principals and we will work on fulfilling our side of the bargain within the week.”
Also speaking, Governor Gabriel Suswam who chaired the NEEDS assessment committee said the government has been able to harness N100 billion to disburse to the universities across the country to revitalise their infrastructures.
He said, “The president has agreed to flag off projects starting from first week of September in virtually all universities. The process of achieving that is ongoing and we will address the due process.”
He said the infrastructural deficits in the nation’s universities to be addressed by the NEEDS assessment will include hostels, classrooms, theatres, laboratories and libraries.
“Some will be renovated and some will be newly built. Each university will have at least one ongoing project when the president flags off this project in the first week of September,” he said.

Why I Shunned Rivers State Deputy Governor In Port Harcourt – Patience Jonathan

dame patience jonathan
The first lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, has said that the refusal of senior officials of the Rivers State Government to pay her a condolence visit when she lost her foster mother was the reason why she shunned the state Deputy Governor, Mr. Tele Ikuru, at the Port Harcourt airport.
She said despite the fact that several groups and individuals from across the country came to commiserate with her, she did not receive any delegation from Rivers State.
Mrs. Jonathan said this in a statement by her spokesman, Mrs. Ayo Adesugba.
She was reacting to media reports that she snubbed Ikuru, when she arrived at the Port Harcourt airport on Sunday.
The President’s wife said she decided to make her visit to the state as quiet as possible so as not to give room for those who she described as mischief makers to succeed in their plans of involving her in the political intrigues in the state.
She said since the wife of the state governor ordinarily receives her whenever she visits any state, that was why the wife of Bayelsa State governor came to Port Harcourt from Yenagoa to receive her.
The statement read, “Our attention has been drawn to reports in some media claiming that the First Lady, Dame (Dr.) Patience Goodluck Jonathan snubbed the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, who was said to have gone to the Port Harcourt International Airport to receive her.
“The reports, by all indications, represent a contrived motive of some gladiators in the Rivers State crisis to continue to paint the First Lady as an aggressor.
“It should be clear to all that for quite some time now, the First Lady has refrained from commenting on issues relating to the Rivers State crisis while these gladiators have continued to use every media at their disposal to fan the embers of disharmony and hatred.
“It is for this reason of the intrigue at play that the First Lady would want to be left out of Rivers State crisis, hence making her visit to the state as quiet as possible, so as not to give room for mischief makers to succeed in their plans.
“Ordinarily, the wife of the state governor receives the first lady whenever she visits any state. That is why the wife of Bayelsa State Governor travelled from Yenagoa to receive the First Lady.”
“In addition, as a daughter of Rivers state, the First Lady is free to visit the state any time she desires. But we are forced to ask: why the presence of the First Lady in Rivers State always generate rumpus?
“It should be noted that while several groups and individuals from across the country came to condole the First Lady and Mr. President on the death of her mother, no official of Rivers State government deemed it fit to pay the first family condolence visit, yet they claimed the First Lady is a daughter of Rivers State.
“He who must go to equity must go with clean hands. They should learn to give respect to those who deserve respect so that they too can earn respect.”

Confession: How Me And My Gang Stole N700m At Ikeja Airport – K Money

In February 2012, a gang of heavily armed robbers attacked the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja.
They carted away N700 million from a bureau de change operator. Each member, including the informant, a cart pusher at the airport, got N90million, an amount that could have turned their lives around. But barely one year after that operation, Felix Sunday, a.k.a. K-Money, a native of Delta State became broke and went back to robbery.
The 32 year old man, who is currently cooling off at the Specail Anti-Robbery Sqaud, SARS, Ikeja, narrated to Vanguard how he robbed with the notorious Southwest robbery czar, Abiodun Ogunjobi, a.k.a. Godogodo and how he lavished his N90million share of the loot. Excerpts.
My name is Felix Sunday. I am a resident of Lagos State and I was a commercial bus driver. I joined my first robbery gang in 2009 and was the gang’s driver. Members of my gang then were old men and all of them are dead now.
They were killed in a robbery operation at Ajah area, but before then, a member of my gang had introduced me to Emmanuel Ehianeta, a.k.a. Arab, who is also a notorious robber. After their death I joined Arab and we began to operate together. Arab specialized in car snatching and we stole many cars at gun point. After each operation, he usually gave the car to a man who would drive it into Benin Republic to deliver to some of our buyers.
We did that for some time before we had issues. I stopped working with him because he was cheating me. He usually gave me peanuts after receiving proceeds from the cars we stole. I relocated to Ondo State and formed a new gang.
There, I had Chiboy and Okey as members and we specialized in house visiting. We robbed people of their valuables each time we visited their homes. We did that until 2011 when Chiboy was killed by the police in Ondo State. I quickly moved out of that state because the police were also looking for me. I relocated to Oyo State, where I became a commercial bus driver.

The Ikeja airport robbery gang with their box of rifles and charms
I vowed never to return to robbery and was contented with what I was making. But there was this man who usually sent me to the prison to deliver some items to his younger brother who was locked up there.
The man was paying me very well and I was happy doing the job for him. However in one of my numerous visits to the prison, I asked his brother what brought him to the prison and he said he was arrested for robbery, I felt sorry for him and told him that I was also a robber but had quit the job because it is dangerous.
He looked at me and laughed. Thereafter he described me as a small time robber. He asked if I could ignore a big job that could fetch me a million naira. I thought about it for a while and said, I would only do it if it would make me rich and pull me out of poverty. He told me to be patient adding that he would give my number to someone who would link me to the job.
In January 2012, I got a call from a man who identified himself as OJ and he explained that he got my number from Destiny, the guy I had been seeing in prison. OJ later told me that there was a job for me at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, and he would want me to come to Computer Village in Lagos, to meet other members of the gang.
When I got there I met Asiwaju, Atoba, Eso and OJ. There OJ told me that they had concluded plans to strike at the airport and the only thing they needed then were rifles for the job. I told them not to worry that I knew someone who could provide us with some rifles.
I contacted one Ore, who used to be close to Arab and asked him how to get a rifle. He told me that Arab had two AK 47 rifles given to him in Benin Republic by his receivers in exchange for some cars. I called Arab. At first he was mad at me and asked why I was calling. I told him of the job at the airport that the foreign currencies were being exported unguarded and all we needed was to steal it. He doubted me but I managed to convince him to meet other members of the gang and he was taken to the airport and shown how the monies were being exported.
By February of that year I, Atoba, Eso, Arab and Asiwaju drove to the airport around 7:pm. I was the one driving. I parked near the barbed wire and waited in the car while four of them went into the airport for the money. Arab and Eso held the Ak 47 rifles while Asiwaju held a pistol.
I was told that when they got to the spot where the money was Arab shot sporadically into the air to scare passersby and Atoba went straight for the bags containing the money. In less then 10 minutes, they were through with the operation and entered my vehicle with the money while I drove off. We escaped through Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and when we got to Ijebu-Ode we entered into a bush to share the money.
Threat to kill everyone
Before then Arab had asked Eso and Asiwaju to hand over the pistol and rifles to him so he could keep them safe from the police. But when we began to share the money Arab corked one of the rifles and threatened to kill everyone. He said he wanted to leave with the whole money but I begged him not to do so and agreed that he should take any amount he wanted as his share.
He then asked me to bring a bag and said I should load the money into it until the bag was full and I did so. After that he ordered us to share the remaining money equally among ourselves including the informant and the middle-man that brought the job. I gave Eso, Asiwaju, Atoba and myself N90million each and kept N45million for the informant and another N45 million for OJ, who was the middle-man.
Asiwaju offered to deliver the money to the informant and the middle-man. We all went our separate ways from there. The first thing I did was to contact a lawyer to help me register a company because I wanted to sell cars. The lawyer took about N500, 000 from me and also leased a land for me for about N1.6million which I used as show room. I went to Benin Republic and bought many cars which I kept in my show room. I also bought many landed property at Ijebu-Ode.
Since I was a transporter, I decided to open a transport company, I bought three Toyota Sienna space buses and took them to Maza-MazaMotorPark, where I wanted them to be used for inter-state transportation. One of the Sienna buses had an accident on it first journey and all the passengers including the driver died in the process.
Things were moving smoothly for me until the police in Oyo State stumbled on the rifles we used for the airport operation. They found it in the home of a man Arab gave them to keep. The man told the Oyo SARS operatives that I was very close to Arab so they stormed Ijebu-Ode and they started looking for me. They didn’t find it difficult locating me because my sudden wealth and business empires gave me out. They stormed my home and looted all my property and they went to my show room and took all the cars in it. I was left with no other option than to run out of the state and I relocated to Calabar, Cross River State. I lived in Calabar for about three months but life in that state was too expensive. My money was dwindling seriously and the man who was managing my transportation company stopped remitting money to me, so I decided to come to Lagos State. I went to Ikorodu, but I was very scared.
I was moving from one hotel to the other and spending too much money. A girl who was very close to me became pregnant and I decided to marry her. We didin’t even have a house of our own then and I didn’t have enough money to rent an apartment. Then I decided to sell the Toyota Corolla I was using for N1.6million and bought a Peugeot 406 for N400, 000. I used the balance to rent an apartment and furnished it. I became almost broke at that time, and then started working my phones, calling other members of my gang to ask if there was any job.
Luckily I was told that plans were on ground to rob a bank in Osun State and what they were working on was to pick a suitable date for the job. But on December 18, 2012, Asiwaju asked me to meet him at Ijebu-Ode, from where we proceeded to the bank.
My gang wasn’t the only one that was involved in that operation. Paul, an Igbo boy was also leading a gang of Igbo boys from the south east. As usual I drove my gang to the scene and we succeeded in that operation. We carted away a huge sum of money from the bank .
Since the number of men involved in that job was much, I was given just N200,000 and I took it home to my family. By January 2013, Asiwaju, called again to say there was a job in Kwara State and the operation was being coordinated by Godogodo.
We struck at two banks in that state and I got about N500,000 as my share and life began to become normal for me again. Godogodo also brought a bullion van job for us again at Ijebu-ode and we succeeded in carting away all the money in the bullion van which included foreign currencies. My share in that job was N150,000.
Godogodo and other big time robbers like Paul, Odun and others took the larger share of it. But in March 2013, Asiwaju who had three Ak47 rifles then called a meeting of all members of the gang and said we have to rob the airport again. This time we sidelined the Alhaji and OJ, and went to the MMIA ourselves to survey how the money was being moved.
Movements of the money
On Wednesday, March 13, 2013, we struck at the airport, but before we got there we encountered a little traffic on our away. Two members of our gang who we had stationed earlier to monitor the movements of the money called us and said the money was already moving and by the time we arrived at the airport, the money had been moved from the car park into the departure lounge of the airport. We shot sporadically into the air to cause panic and distraction but some policemen who were at the airport to escort some expatriates shot at us and they killed Eso.
But Asiwaju, Atoba faced them, rained bullets and killed two of them. Before we knew what was happening the money had moved beyond our reach. We couldn’t do anything, we descended on the bureau de change operators at the airport and we carted away the sum of N10 million.
That operation turned out to be my last. I went home to my family but one week later I got a call from a member of our gang, a Pastor, who prepared the charms and oath we took before the operation. He said that he needed to see me for a job. I didn’t know that he was with the police and when I came out to see him, I was arrested. I regret getting back to armed robbery and would have stuck to my vows.”

Nigeria Has Spent Over N1 Trillion On N’Assembly Members In The Last Eight Years – Ezekwesili

Dr. Oby Ezekwesili
Dr. Oby Ezekwesili
A former Minister of Education, Mrs Oby Ezekwesili, on Monday said Nigeria had spent over N1tn on the National Assembly members in the last eight years. Ezekwesili, in a keynote address she delivered during one-day dialogue session on the ‘Cost of governance in Nigeria, “ added that banks earned N699bn as interests last year on loans secured by the government.
“Since 2005, the National Assembly members alone have been allocated N1tr,’’she said while also lamenting that “82 per cent of Nigeria’s budgetary cost goes for recurrent expenditure.”
To buttress her claim that much was being spent servicing those in government, she said that “ a research conducted in the United Kingdom identified Nigerian legislators as being the highest paid in the world.”
Although she was applauded by participants at the session organised in Abuja by the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre with support from Federal Public Administration Reform Programme in the UK, she drew flak from the National Assembly members, who said her claim amounted to blackmail.
But Ezekwesili, who was also a former minister of Solid Mineral and World Bank Vice-President for Africa Region, challenged civil society groups to demand a mini-national dialogue that centres on good governance and the the release of the Steve Oronsaye report on Rationalisation and Restructuring of Federal Parastatals, Commissions and Agencies.
“There should be effective demand by civil society groups of the report of the Oronsaye report. You should also demand a mini-national transparent dialogue because it touches on the heart of good governance”, she stated.
She also pointed out that one of the greatest mistakes of the Olusegun Obasanjo administration under which she served twice as a minister was that Nigeria delved into democracy without necessarily doing away with a military mindset.
“There is a drawback to the military era. One major mistake of the government under which I served was that we simply got into democracy and did not spend reasonable time getting every citizen; every leader and every institution to do away with militaristic ethos and principles from their minds,” Ezekwesili added.
According to her, the social dilemma which the country currently finds itself would be overcome if stakeholders, especially lawmakers, consider part-time legislation as a means of bringing down the cost of governance.
She said part-time lawmaking would ensure that the right people got into governance.
“Things will improve through part-time legislation. It will also reduce the number of people who will go into the National Assembly. You must have means of livelihood so that you won’t have to depend on public funds, ”she said.
The former minister argued that Nigeria’s problem was not the system of governance but more of the kind of people managing it.
Ezekwesili said while other countries were moving forward technologically, Nigeria was trapped by oil, a natural resource which it loses a revenue of about $1.6bn annually.
She said, “When I was in government, I was totally debating public policies. We must debate public policies as a nation because if we don’t do so, we will make silly mistakes because we don’t involve the stakeholders. So policy debates must be encouraged.
“The culture of personalising policy dialogues must stop. When you have a problem, you don’t leave the problem and begin to chase other matters.
“I feel sorry for any person who is fairly okay in this nation and doesn’t care about the poor because there will be an implosion. Whatever treatment that is given to the poor and vulnerable in the society must matter to everybody because except we have social inclusion in the society, we stand the danger of implosion. This has happened in other countries which ignored the vulnerable people.”

25yr Old Woman Pours Hot Oil On Boyfriend Over His Refusal To Marry Her

A Karu Senior Magistrates’ court, yesterday, sentenced a 25-year-old woman, Victoria Alonge, to one-year in jail for pouring hot oil on her boyfriend, Roland Nna, over his refusal to marry her.
The Senior Magistrate, Omolola Akindele, summarily sentenced Alonge without an option of fine after the convict admitted to committing the offence in court.

Alonge was arraigned by the police on a one-count charge of causing grievous hurt on Nna, her boyfriend, who lives in Kurudu, Abuja.

The Police Prosecutor, Cpl. Paschal Njoku, had earlier told the court that Nna reported the incident at Kurudu Police Station on August 11.

Njoku said Alonge went to Nna’s house at about 4:30 a.m. on the fateful day and poured hot oil on him while he was asleep, resulting in grievous hurt on his body.

He said she was immediately arrested by the police, based on the report and confession to committing the crime before the police.

Njoku said while in detention, Alonge threatened to inflict more harm on the victim.

The prosecutor urged the court to summarily punish the accused since she did not deny the charge brought against her.

In her defence, Alonge told the court that her estranged lover dated her for over four years and promised to marry her, only for him to change his mind after falling in love with another women in Abuja.

She said: “I did that to teach him a bitter lesson because he refused to marry me after dating me for over four years.

“He fooled me and my parents and ditched me after finding a new lover here in Abuja. I live in Lagos with my parents.”

Van Persie Is The Best Striker In The World – Michu Reveals

rvp utd 300x298
Michu has labelled Robin van Persie as the best striker in the world after the Dutchman’s double against Swansea City on Saturday.
Van Persie, who claimed the golden boot in the Premier League last season, struck twice in Manchester United’s 4-1 away win at the Liberty Stadium, with Danny Welbeck matching his contribution.
“He had two chances and he scored two goals, but that is why Manchester United are fighting for the championship. For me, to be honest, he is the best striker in the world. He had no clear chances in this game and it is just incredible how he ended up with two goals. It stops with him, he is the best.
“I don’t know how many goals he will score this season. A hundred, maybe a thousand! One thing is for sure, he is going to score a lot,” he said.
Swansea will now look to bounce back from the loss when they host Petrolul Ploiesti in the first leg of their Europa League play-off tie on Thursday.

Jenifa star Funke Akindele made it to number 2 and we can credit that to her recent marital tales. Ini Edo, Tonto Dikeh, D’banj, Geneveive Nnaji and Tiwa Savage also made it to the list.
Also making it to the list include Pastor William Kumuyi son’s wedding, MGBN 2013, Knust and Adenike Ogungbe - yeah, I remember vividly well how stories on Kumuyi (especially), Adenike Ogungbe (may her soul rest in peace) and MBGN 2013 got me some very very very madt traffic...lol!
