President’s Convoy In Auto Crash In Nasarawa

The convoy of President Goodluck Jonathan, was on Monday, involved in an auto crash, leaving 14 persons injured.

Witnesses confided in the Nigerian Tribune that three confessional policemen, three mobile policemen, one member of the civil defence corps, as well as one official of the state branch of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and six civilians were seriously injured, and were currently receiving treatment at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Umar Shehu, who confirmed the incident on Tuesday, said the state government had since released funds for the treatment of all the victims. He said some of the victims have been discharged but those who have serious fracture were still at the hospital.

According to him, the accident happened when the vehicle of a prison officer ran into the convoy of the president and collided with one of the riders, who somersaulted and thereafter ran into the crowd.

“They are all responding to treatment at the hospital. Some have fractures on their legs. The prison officer sustained minor injury. He is still in police custody while investigation is ongoing,” he said.

It will be recalled that the president was in Lafia for the inauguration of the newly constructed Federal High Court and Ta’al Model School constructed by the present administration in the state. He was represented by Vice-President Namadi Sambo.

Shocking Photo: Lagos Policemen Kill Undergraduate And Friend In A Gruesome Video

Policemen attached to the Badagry Police Division, Lagos State, and some hoodlums have been accused of killing a 25-year-old undergraduate of Delta State University, Ifechukwude Nwainokpor, and his friend, identified simply as Kazeem.

An eight-minute video clip of the gruesome killing showed the two victims handcuffed together. They were covered in their own blood and beaten to death with sticks. Tyres were also put round   their necks.

An irate mob could be seen in the video, shouting, “die, die, burn them, burn them.”

At some points in the video, a policeman was seen interviewing the boys. He asked who sent them (victims) to rob the area, an accusation they denied. One of the hoodlums, holding a sharp object attempted to cut off the private part of

Photos: Mob Catch And Beat Up Thief Till He Bleeds In Delta State

The young man in the ditch is a thief, who was caught this morning in Shell road, Sapele, Delta state.According to an eyewitness, the thief (name unknown) had snatched a woman's handbag in another part of town, Ugbeyi Sapele and sped off on his motorcycle.

VIEWERS DISCRETION ADVISED

The poor woman couldn't raise an alarm, but fortunately a soldier who saw her bag get snatched quickly borrowed someone's Hilux and gave the thief a hot chase.

Scroll Down for more photos...

Somehow, the thief got away.

But not for too long. Cos nemesis caught up with the thief when he got to Shell road.

Some young men noticed the motorcyclist was holding an handbag but was without a passenger.

When the thief was approached, he sped off. But unknown to him, where he rode to was a dead-end.

The youth chased him into the bush, caught him, battered him, and threw him into a pit, waiting for the police to arrive.

Some members of a vigilante group came to take the thief away, but onlookers refused and told them they were waiting for the police to come and carry him.

Finally the police came and what they could say was "we can't carry him the way he is" and they went away.

Then somebody took a motorcycle and went to call the army.
When the soldiers came, one of them said this was the guy I chased this morning with someone's Hilux but I didn't know where he diverted to with his motorcycle cos I wasn't familiar with the route.

The soldiers ordered for him to be put into the trunk of their car. While doing that, a girl shouted "he is my brother" repeatedly.
The soldier dashed off to her, flogged her with the fan-belt he was holding, kicked her feet off the ground and beat her till she took off.

Boko Haram Slaughters 8 In Borno

Eight persons, including a lecturer at the College of Education, Waka, Biu Local Government Area of Borno State (names withheld) were, yesterday, slaughtered by suspected Boko Haram members.

They were suspected to have invaded the town after escaping from their camps in Sambisa and other camps in Borno and Yobe states, during the military raid.

It was learnt that the killing took place around the popular Kadafur Cinema area and other wards where a lecturer at the Waka College of Education, who was also an Islamic cleric, three members of a family and four others were slaughtered.

Meanwhile, the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Kano is considering floating a civilian JTF outfit to complement efforts by security agents to police Sabon Gari, a predominantly Christian quarters that had witnessed terrorist attack recently.

Briefing journalists in Kano, Chairman, Kano chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Tobias Idika, explained that the option had become "very viable in the light of increased activities of terrorists in the densely populated quarters.

Idika said that the "option of taking up our collective security through civilian JTF, is long overdue to set an example on how members of the guest community can best come together to confront a national question threatening the fabric of the nation.

"Residents of Sabon Gari have been the target of attacks by the extremist group since they struck January 20, 2012.

"The motor park bombing last March, with its attendant devastation, is still fresh in our mind and the question left unanswered is 'for how long would members of the guest community continue to lose its productive population?"

Borno Deputy Governor reacts

Last Tuesday, Deputy Governor of Borno State, Alhaji Zanna Mustapha, who is also from Biu Local Government Area in an interview with newsmen in Maiduguri, lamented the increasing killing of innocent people in Biu.

He said the state government was not interested in the restoration of GSM network in the state for now as doing so will jeopardise the relative peace being enjoyed in the state.

A reliable source, who just arrived Maiduguri from the troubled town, said: "Biu is no longer safe. There were pockets of killings by suspected Boko Haram sect in the last few days.

"In fact, most of the killings were targeted at school teachers and Islamic clerics, and the most unfortunate thing is that the terrorists have devised a means of using knives to slaughter their targets, as using gunshots will attract security agencies."

It was gathered that military task force has been deployed to the streets of the town to ensure safety of lives and property, even as some volunteered youths have offered to assist the security agencies in apprehending those perpetrating such act.

JTF spokesman, Lt-Col Sagir Musa, could not be reached at time due to lack of telecommunication services in the area. -Vanguard

Why Funke Akindele's husband announced their breakup on Facebook

Funke Akindele's enstranged husband recently revealed he was building a one-storey building for her before she left.According to a report by E24-7 magazine, this is what the real situation is.
"That place is not for me, I have been through hell and back," she told E24-7MAGAZINE on Friday.

"I was abused emotionally and verbally. Really, I felt we could work things out when the trouble started two months after the marriage, but I made up my mind and shut the door of the marriage at him when the trouble was coming to me too much. I stooped to conquer him; buried my fame and name to make him my husband, but it did not work.
At a point in time, I asked if it's not the same man that was all over me before we married. He nearly got me off my career. He called me severally; I did not pick his calls but when he realized my silence was tormenting him, he took to Facebook. It's alright. Ask him when did he come to my house last? He left me here in my rented apartment with nothing and he will just dash in and dash out. He gets abusive, caustic anytime we have a misunderstanding and often told me to my face, he's going to his wife in Oshodi."
At Oshodi, she said, she received a warm welcome from the wife, Fadekemi, but constant humiliation from Kehinde.
"She was really loved by the kids at home; she enjoyed taking them out to eateries and stores. Sometimes, they spent the weekend with her and she followed them to school. The children will surely miss her," our source, close to the family, said. Now that the cookie has crumbled, Kehinde, she said has been calling and sending text messages begging her to come back.
"He sent me sms that he has seen a buyer for his house at Adeniyi Jones for N40million. He asked me if he should sell it and that if he does, he will buy me a new car and a rent me a new apartment. Why now? I don't need all that, I want my sanity."

After she ignored him, he sent her another text abusing her and calling her names. "So you can see that he does not mean well for me," she re-iterated. E24-7 checks frevealed as at Saturday evening Kehinde was combing the nooks and crannies of Ikorodu to locate Funke's dad's house. He boasted: "I will do anything to win my wife back."

ASUU Strike: Please, “bear with us,” FG Appeals To Students, Parents

The Federal Government has appealed to university students and their parents to be patient as negotiations are ongoing with striking university lecturers.

Briefing journalists after the weekly meeting of the Executive Council of the Federation, FEC, the Information Minister, Labaran Maku, said government was worried because the disruption of the university calendar comes at a social cost to government.

"We are appealing to our people, particularly parents and children of this nation, to bear with us, to show more understanding and we pray that this type of strike will not reoccur; because the public school system suffers a lot of damage with the perennial strikes," Mr. Maku said.

University lecturers, ASUU, have been on strike for over four weeks demanding that the government fully implement a 2009 agreement it had with the union.

The government insists it wants a renegotiation of the some parts of the agreement claiming the agreement was not signed by the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

Mr. Maku said the government was very worried about the strike. He assured that the strike will soon be called off and that an "understanding will be reached soon enough to enable our students return back to school."

"Government is very worried and concerned every time the school calendar is disrupted. It has its cost to the nation; particularly the idle time our children spend at home can lead to a lot of social difficulties.

"We don't want school calendars to be disrupted and a lot of series discussions have been going on and we believe we should record some progress soon enough for these schools to open," he said.

Mr. Maku noted that universities have been relatively stable since the advent of the Jonathan administration, as in the last two years "there has not been a lot of strikes until this unfortunate one and I believe we will overcome it and in the end both parties will appreciate the need to keep the school calendar stable for the progress of our country."

He said the "government is working hard to ensure we reach an agreement to resolve this problem so that our schools can reopen" -Premium Times

ASUU Threatens To Cancel Post-UME Exams In Universities

Thousands of students who wrote the university-organised matriculation examinations, commonly called Post-UME, during university lecturers strike may have engaged in a futile exercise and may be forced to re-write the examination as lecturers complain they had no input in the exercise.

Speaking at a press conference called by the Ibadan Zone of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the Lagos State University, Ojo, the Zonal Coordinator, Adesola Nassir, said the leadership of the universities that have conducted the examination hurriedly did so because of the financial gains accruable from the candidates.

"It is an abnormality," he said. "How can you hold such an important examination without the input of academic staff," he asked.

"Vice-chancellors are employing non-academic staff and consultant to do Post-UME. They are doing it because of money. The exam already constitutes a crisis-point in the universities."

Mr. Nassir said the "results from the examination may be jettisoned."

After writing the government sanctioned Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), most individual universities in Nigeria require students to pass internally organised matriculation examinations called Post-UME.

In most cases, an average a student's score from both examinations is considered before the student is granted admission. This arrangement started in 2005 over complaints about the falling standard of UTME by universities.

The Ibadan Zone of ASUU comprises University of Lagos (UNILAG), University of Ibadan (UI), Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Lagos State University (LASU), University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (UNAAB), and Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED).

Rivers Assembly Leader, Chidi Lloyd Arraigned For Attempted Murder

After eight days in police custody, the Majority Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Mr. Chidi Lloyd, on Wednesday, finally appeared before a High Court in Port Harcourt.
Lloyd, arraigned on six counts of attempted murder, conspiracy, assault and malicious damage, arrived at the court about 10.52am accompanied by riot policemen and other security operatives.

Clad in blue attire, the lawmaker limped as he entered the court premises, supported by two unidentified persons.

The offence of the PDP lawmaker, who was reportedly involved in the fracas in the State Assembly on July 9, 2013, the prosecution said, was contrary to Section 320 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 37 laws of Rivers State of Nigeria 1999.

Lloyd allegedly hit his fellow lawmaker, Mr. Michael Chinda, with a fake mace during a fight at the Assembly chamber.

During the hearing, the prosecution counsel, Mr. Donald De-wigwe (SAN), objected to the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Worgu Boms' plea to take over the criminal proceeding.

De-wigwe argued that Boms could not take over the court proceedings since there was no proper arraignment of the accused before the court.

De-wigwe said, "Judicially, the argument does not stand. It is not a law of today. The issue is that whether or not there is a criminal proceeding before the court. Until plea is taken, there is still nothing for the attorney-general to takeover."

Referring to legal authorities to defend his argument, De-wigwe said the attorney-general's attempt to take over the criminal proceeding of the court was premature.

Boms had earlier noted that Section 211 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, empowered him to take over the case.

Noting that the measure was necessary in the interest of justice, the Attorney-General insisted that the alleged offence was against the state.

He added, "I stand here by the powers conferred on me by Section 211(1)(b) of the 1999 Constitution to take over the prosecution of the matter between the Commissioner of Police and Chidi Lloyd."

Also, Lloyd's lead counsel, Mr. Beluolisa Nwofor (SAN), who objected to the appearance of De-wigwe and other lawyers for the prosecution, explained that as private lawyers, they needed to obtain a fiat from the state Attorney-General to prosecute the matter.

Nwofor said, "I object to De-wigwe's appearance for prosecution. He is not a police officer, but a private practitioner. The law requires that for a private practitioner to appear in a criminal charge by the Commissioner of Police, he should tender a fiat from the Attorney-General of the state.

"I urge the court to expunge the appearance of all the lawyers announced by the SAN, except J.C.A. Ideachaba, a Superintendent of Police, who filed the information."

He argued that the letter presented to the court by De-wigwe was not enough as far as the law was concerned.

De-wigwe, however, disagreed saying the state Commissioner of Police initiated the charge not the state Attorney-General.

Justice Nyordee adjourned the case till August 6, 2013 to rule on the submissions of the opposing counsel as it concerned the declaration for a takeover of the criminal proceedings by the Attorney-General.

Meanwhile, there was tight security at the court premises as security operatives frisked all that entered the courtroom.

Husband Who Killed His Wife Over Snake Arrested In Edo State “Killing Snake Is A Taboo” – Suspect Claims

A Nigerian man identified as Godwin Idon is cooling off in police detention after he allegedly beat his wife to death in a rural area of Edo state after his son killed a snake in their living room.

NAN reports that serious quarrel ensued between the couple after one of their sons had allegedly killed a snake in their living room.

The husband was said to have been infuriated by the action which he described as a taboo in the community.

After a week of quarrel, the wife in company of her mother-in-law decided to seek the intervention of a native doctor to know the implication of the son’s action.

It was when she returned that the husband accused her of foul-play and subsequently hit the wife on the head with a plank during a fight before the woman collapsed and died.

The remains of the deceased, who died on the spot, had been deposited in a morgue in Sabongidda-Ora, headquarters of the council.

The Police Area Commander, Mr David Jimwang, who confirmed the incident, told NAN that the man has been arrested and transferred to the state police command, Benin for further investigation. [NAN]

Fish Boy:Pan Xianhang Suffers From Itchy Scale Skin With Fish-Like Scale As Skin

Eight-year-old boy, Pan Xianhang has been nicknamed 'fish boy' by neighbours because he's covered from head to toe in thick, itchy scales.

He was born in Wenling, China with a rare genetic skin disease known as Ichthyosis, after the ancient Greek word for fish.

Ichthyosis is a heterogeneous family of at least 28 generalized, mostly genetic skin disorders. All types of ichthyosis have dry, thickened, scaly or flaky skin. In many types there is cracked skin, which is said to resemble the scales on a fish.

Most sufferers develop dry scaly skin across part of their body, but Pan's case is severe, his scales have affected the shape of his eyes, nose, mouth and ears and they limit the movement of his arms and legs.

The condition also means he's in constant pain and struggles to sleep at night because of the itching.

Sufferers are treated with creams, oils and moisturisers, which are designed to hydrate the skin.

Liz Dale a spokesperson for the UK-based Ichthyosis Support Group said: "There is no known cure and treatments for ichthyosis are predominantly keeping the skin moisturised with plenty of emollients i.e. lotions and creams.

"The skin needs to be moisturized to prevent it from further drying out, which could cause the skin to crack, making it more prone to infection, which may be fatal."

It is estimated that each year, more than 16,000 babies are born with some form of Ichthyosis, varying in severity of symptoms, according to Foundation for Ichthyosis & Related Skin Types.

Even as Doctors are currently looking into other ways to treat him, Pan is not the first to make headlines for this stifling disease.

Kano Bomb Blast Survivors Narrates Ordeal “The Bombers Attacked Us At Sabon Gari”

Few of the people who survived the multiple bomb blasts that hit Kano on Monday night recounted their experiences on Tuesday morning.

One of them, Mr. Emeka Mba, a member of staff of the transport company, Young Shall Grow Motors, who survived the blast with multiple wounds, recounted his sad experience to reporters.

He said, “I was with some of my friends along Ibo Road, when all of a sudden, I heard a loud sound and I saw people running. I just woke up to see myself in this hospital. Those who did this must be punished.”

Another victim, Mr. Emmanuel Ani, a bar attendant in one of the drinking shops, said, “As I am talking to you, I cannot explain what really happened.

“What I presently remember is that I was about giving a customer a plate of Isi-ewu (goat head) and suddenly, I heard a loud sound and everything went blank.”

At Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital, a survivor, Mr. Alade Ezekiel, 47, a printer, told newsmen that he went to Sabon Gari to eat when the incident occurred.

He said, “At about 9pm, I went to Sabon Gari to eat when the bomb blast happened. I heard a loud sound and I felt a sharp pain here (pointing to his left hand). A sharp object pierced through my left hand and leg; I saw blood all over. I managed to escape when a military patrol team saw that some of us were alive and they brought us here.” [PUNCH]

£3, 000 Uk Visa Bond: We Will Retaliate -FG

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru

The Federal Government on Tuesday insisted on retaliatory action against British citizens if their government went ahead with its plan to impose a £3, 000 visa bond on visitors from Nigeria and five other Commonwealth countries.
It expressed displeasure that Downing Street, which had already set November as the discriminatory policy’s commencement time, had not deemed it neccessary to formally communicate to it on the next step of action.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru, had at a meeting with the British High Commissioner, Andrew Pocock, conveyed the desire of Nigeria to retaliate the policy.
The spokesperson for the ministry , Ogbole Ode, said in a statement in Abuja, that the British authorities were already aware of the Federal Government’s position on the matter.
The statement reads, “Media reports in Nigeria on Monday, July 29, 2013, indicated that the United Kingdom Government will begin to implement from November, 2013, the £3,000 cash bond for first-time visa applicants from Nigeria, and five other Commonwealth countries. The other countries are India, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. These media reports themselves were quoting the Financial Times of London.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has yet to receive any official communication on the final decision of the UK government on this matter. The Federal Government has already conveyed its objection to the bond payment to the UK government. This was done when the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ashiru, summoned the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Andrew Pocock, to the Tafawa Balewa House, on June 25, 2013.
“If and when a communication to that effect is received, the Federal Government will take appropriate steps to reflect its national interest. ”
When contacted, the spokesman for the British High Commission in Abuja, Rob Fitzpatrick, said, “No final decision has been made” on the controversial policy.
He said, “As British Prime Minister David Cameron has said, we want the brightest and the best to help create the jobs and growth that will enable Britain to compete in the global race. So, for example, if you are an overseas businessman seeking to invest and trade with world class businesses, one of the thousands of legitimate students keen to study at our first-class universities or a tourist visiting our world class attractions, be in no doubt: Britain is open for business.”
It will be recalled that Ashiru, at the meeting with Pocock, warned that the government would retaliate the discriminatory policy.
On Monday the British government defended a campaign advising illegal immigrants to “go home or face arrest.”
Two trucks, each displaying a large poster with a number for migrants to send text messages if they desired to return to their countries , were seen in six London boroughs for a week.
It was learnt that posters, leaflets and advertisements in newspapers would run for a month to further promote the campaign, a pilot scheme by the interior ministry.
A member of the Liberal Democrat Party, the junior partner in the coalition government with the Conservative Party and Business Secretary, Vince Cable, called the campaign “stupid and offensive.”
The opposition Labour Party’s home affairs spokeswoman, Yvette Cooper, also said the scheme was “ludicrous.”
But Prime Minister David Cameron’s spokesman defended the campaign, saying it was clear that it was “already working” as some illegal immigrants had voluntarily agreed to leave the UK.

Woman Pierces Neighbour’s Heart With Knife During Scuffle In Lagos

(Vanguard) – Saturday, June 22,2013, will for a long time remain indelible in the memory of Godwin Olah, 37, following an incident that claimed the life of his 28- year-old wife, Stella, during a row with a neighbour identified as Stella Omoigiafo Gilbert (31). The suspect, a mother of one, allegedly pierced the heart of the deceased, a mother of three aged between six and three, with a knife after a scuffle in their compound.

The grieving husband of the deceased who hails from Obudu local Government Area of Cross River State, Godwin, told Crime Alert at their number 59, Ojora Street, Ajegunle, Lagos residence that the suspect also inflicted severe injuries on his wife’s hand before piercing her heart resulting to her death. Amidst tears, he narrated his ordeal since the untimely death of his wife.

His story: ”It happened that on June 22, 2013, at about 6pm, one of my sisters came calling on us. I decided to carry one small bench at the front of a neighbour’s house for the visitor to sit inside our room. Immediately, Stella, our neighbour, rushed out of her room and accosted me, asking why I should carry the bench inside. The owner of the bench, on hearing our argument, came out and asked her to let us be, but she refused, instead she went inside, brought out hot water and poured on us. I reasoned that if I engage in a fight with her, it might result to some serious consequences, so, I went to the police station at Ajaromi and reported the case.
Stella

“On getting back to the house, I saw my wife lying on the corridor in front of our room. I shook her but no response came from her, and the lady that engaged her in a fight was nowhere to be found. Hence, I went back to the station the second time to report of her death. The Police sent an officer to accompany me and see things for herself. The officer came, saw the lifeless body of my wife on the corridor and we went back to the station where she made her report.

The Police also requested that I get a report from the General Hospital here in Ajegunle. I took the body of my wife there and she was confirmed dead on arrival. There after, with the help of some good Samaritans around, I took her body to the Naval hospital mortuary, but she was rejected because we did not go with a police report. I brought her back and laid her on the floor in our room until the next morning.

Then, I went back to the police station and was given a police van to convey her to Lagos Island mortuary. She has been at the morgue for a month and three days now. Since then, our children have been sleeping at their aunt’s house, I go there every night to pass the night with them because they can’t sleep if I am not there with them.”

Crime Alert gathered from an eye witness that after the accused poured hot water on Godwin Olah and his visiting sister, his wife went to her room to accost her on why she should treat her husband and sister in-law in such manner, a fight ensued between both women and in the process, the accused tried to drag the deceased to the stove where she was cooking to burn her, but when she discovered she could not drag Stella Godwin (the deceased) to the fire, she brought out a knife and pierced through her right arm and her heart.

“Stella died as a result of the knife wound on her heart; the fight was so fierce that we all took off, returning only to see Stella Godwin lying in a pool of her blood on the corridor in front of their room,” the eye witness said.

Another neighbour also told Crime Alert on condition of anonymity that there have been a no- love -lost relationship between the two neighbours. “Before that incident, both neighbours had lived like cat and rat in this compound. They quarrelled at the slightest misunderstanding. I wish they listened to us, this would have been averted.”

Genesis: Tracing the genesis of the quarrel between his family and the suspect, the husband of the victim also said he fell out with the accused who also shared the same first name (Stella) with his deceased wife, after he prevented her from using a knife on her (the suspect) sister during a scuffle. “I have lived in this compound for 20 years now. I was here when she rented her room. We lived as good neighbours, she was best of friends with my wife. It wasl the day I stopped the lady from using a knife to inflict injuries on her sister during a fight that she saw me, my wife and our children as enemies, “ he stated.

It was gathered that the body of the deceased has been conveyed to her home town in Obudu- Akwa-Ibom state for burial; while the accused Stella Omoigiafo Gilbert was remanded in prison custody after she was arraigned at the magistrate court in Ebute Metta.

wpid-police-logo.jpeg

An armed robbery suspect has been arrested by the Tolu Police Division, Ajegunle, Lagos, for allegedly attacking the station’s Divisional Police Officer, CSP Godwin Eze.
The suspect, who had refused to give his name, was said to have been arrested last Saturday when a combined team of policemen from Tolu and Bariga divisions stormed his home on Adetoke Street, Bariga, at 6am.

A police source said that the suspect along with several others suspected to be naval ratings, attacked Eze and attempted to rob him last Wednesday.

He said, “A group of men, had ambushed Eze last week and tried to disarm him of his service pistol. Unfortunately, they did not succeed. As they were speeding away, Eze was able to get the number plate of the vehicle.

“It was through this number plate that Eze traced the owner of the vehicle to his house in Bariga with the help of the motor licensing office.

“The suspect was arrested with some members of his family; they are still being interrogated by the police.”

The Lagos State Police Commissioner, Mr. Umaru Manko, confirmed that an arrest was made, but declined to comment when our correspondent sought to know whether some of the suspects were truly naval personnel.

Manko said, “The suspect currently in custody had attacked Eze last week. He was traced to his home through his number plate and arrested.

“We arrested the culprit only; no member of his family is in our custody.”

"If my husband cheats, I will castrate him' - Uche Jombo says in new interview

In this interview with Sam Olatunji, Uche Jombo speaks on cheating and new movie ‘Unconditional’.
What is it with the celebrity kids on your new movie, ‘Unconditional’?
We didn’t set out to use celebrity kids. I told everyone including you the age range I want and people suggested the kids. Aghahowa’s daughter has wanted to act since age 5, we auditioned Chigozie, and she did well and got a coach to coach them. 2face’s daughter is just a drama queen. And this movie, Unconditional is not all about them, Dakore, Ruth Kadiri and I acted in it. It’s the kind of move that will touch the heart.
If your husband were to be a serial philanderer like Desmond’s character in the movie, Lies Men Tell, what will you do?
I will castrate him, he knows and believes that. To me, there is no excuse to cheat, its either you are with someone or not, and if you are tired of the person, please accord the person decency of respect by saying it’s over. Don’t go making someone look stupid. The problem with me is there is no in- between.
Do you believe what you are saying or are you saying it for the purpose of this interview?
I am saying,Uche Jombo-Rodrigues doesn’t have in-between. That is the reason it takes me long time to make a decision or take a stand on something, but when I do, that is it. There is no excuse not to honour an agreement you have made, this doesn’t have anything to do with this interview. It is the principle that guides me. It is not just about marriage, it’s how I conduct my relationships, its either it is this or that, if that is mymind-set in a relationship, you should know that for marriage it’ll be 150%. There is no room for cheating.

So you believe your husband will or should not cheat on you?
I don’t have control over what someone will do, I’m not God. I’m talking about me, how I conduct things. It’s not an option that it will happen, I will not tolerate cheating.

Are you saying you will not forgive the man who cheats on you and is manly enough to say I’m sorry?
If you are in that situation Sam, oh God! You are going to slave for me for life. And do you know any man that will want to slave for a woman for life, answer?

Is it true you are older than your husband and the man you dated before him?
I have never dated or married someone I was older than in my life. If you have the illusion of someone’s age, that is your business, and I am even too mature for my age. That is the problem, because men of my age are ‘small boys’ around me, I can’t date them. I am someone who has to become a mother to some of my siblings at the age of 14. Because you are an under-achiever does not mean I should play down on my achievement. If age is the yard stick for you to succeed, you should not judge people with it, I don’t have an apology. If I’m learning from people who are older than me that is because I don’t hang out with my age mates; I don’t think there is anything else you want to teach me, and if you want to judge me by the people I hang out with or by when I started my hustle, where the hell were you at that time?  What really matters to me is that people who know me during my not-too-proud days are so proud that, this is me now. I have come far, it’s something I’m grateful for, and I couldn’t have even written it better if it were a story.

Photo: Woman Sets 11-Year-Old Maid Ablaze Over Piece Of Meat

Policemen at Bode Thomas division of Lagos State command, Tuesday, arrested a woman who allegedly set her 11-year-old house maid ablaze in Surulere area of Lagos, for stealing a piece of meat from her pot of soup.

The maid identified as Ita Bassey-Eno who reportedly escaped death by the whiskers, is currently at the Burns and Trauma Centre of the Gbadaga General Hospital, with doctors battling to save her life.

Although her mistress, a staff nurse at an undisclosed hospital in Surulere, Mrs Nkese Iroakazi, reportedly denied the allegation at the police station, the ailing girl was said to have managed to state that she allegedly poured kerosene on her before striking a stick of matches to set her on fire.

The incident, as gathered, occurred last Saturday at 7, Adeniran Ogunsanya Street, after  Ita rushed out of  the apartment with fire on her, apparently in an attempt to plunge into a gutter. Unfortunately,  she reportedly fell before she could get to  the gutter.

One of the residents was said to have succeeded in putting out the fire with the aid of a fire extinguisher, before she was rushed to the hospital.

Eyewitness account

A resident who simply identified herself as Morakinyo told Vanguard: "I was just alighting from the bus when I saw people gathered in front of the building. When I got there, I saw Ita whom we all call Eno on the floor. Then, the flame had been put out.

"Two men who attempted to carry her into a car could not because the skin at that time had peeled off. They had to get a slab, placed her on it and rushed her to the hospital. From what I gathered, the girl has spent barely one month in Lagos before the incident.

"She was brought from her village in Akwa Ibom State last month alongside another girl called Happiness. Since then, we have not seen either of them going to school.

"We heard that while Happiness was in the sitting room, there was a cry from Ita in the kitchen and before she (Happiness) knew what was happening, Ita rushed out of the kitchen and straight to the road shouting for help.

"How could someone who has children of her own treat another's  like this? It was even the residents that alerted policemen who came to pick Mrs Iroakazi."

When Vanguard visited the hospital, Tuesday, a doctor who spoke on condition of anonymity  expressed fear about the  victim's condition, revealing that she suffered  95 per cent  burns.

"It will take a miracle for her to survive. In any case, we are trying all we can to ensure she gets back on her feet. That will entail some surgeries because her private part was badly damaged.

"Currently, she wears pampers and that area needs immediate surgery after the injuries would have healed."

Ita was sighted with bandage all over her body, except her face and feet. When a nurse approached her to administer the day's treatment, she groaned in pains.

As at 3 p.m yesterday, police sources told Vanguard that the suspect would be transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba  for further investigation.

"I must be with a man for 5years before I marry him' - Eniola Badmus

When asked about her marriage plans in an interview with Encomium mag, actress Eniola Badmus said she must date a guy for at least five years before she will consider marrying him. Eniola said:
"What is the point if I marry today and tomorrow it's over? What's the essence? I am living my life. I will have a baby when necessary. Marriage is good but what's the essence of me getting married today and tomorrow I'm not in it? For any man I am going to marry or call my husband we should be together for five years before we walk down the aisle. We may have children but at least after five years I will know that you're ready for me. Not getting married today, and tomorrow he's out! I've seen it happen to my friends, I don't want to go through that trauma.
hmmmmm, that you date a guy for five years doesn't guarantee that the marriage will last...or does it? :-)
