Obama releases statement following Zimmerman not guilty verdict

The US president said:
“The death of Trayvon Martin was a tragedy. Not just for his family, or for any one community, but for America. I know this case has elicited strong passions. And in the wake of the verdict, I know those passions may be running even higher. But we are a nation of laws, and a jury has spoken. I now ask every American to respect the call for calm reflection from two parents who lost their young son. And as we do, we should ask ourselves if we’re doing all we can to widen the circle of compassion and understanding in our own communities. We should ask ourselves if we’re doing all we can to stem the tide of gun violence that claims too many lives across this country on a daily basis. We should ask ourselves, as individuals and as a society, how we can prevent future tragedies like this. As citizens, that’s a job for all of us. That’s the way to honor Trayvon Martin.”

Al-Mustapha, A Hero – Governor Kwankwaso

Al-Mustapha
Al-Mustapha

Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, the former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, on Sunday wept while recounting his 15 years ordeal in jail.

Also, Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, also described the former CSO as a her0.
Al-Mustapha broke down at the Kano State Government House while recalling his ordeal at the Kirikiri Naxunyn Security Prison, Lagos.

The former CSO was detained for about 15 years over the alleged murder of the late Mrs Kudirat Abiola, wife of the late Alhaji Moshood Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.

Kwankwaso said, “Hamza Al-Mustapha was taken away in 1999 in tattered clothes and in chains under a pitiable situation; but today, he has returned a hero. We have always insisted that he was unjustly held. We felt concerned and decided to be part of justice.”

The former CSO was in the Government House along with members of his family and close associates, including the Founder of the Oodua People’s Congress, Dr. Fredrick Fasehun.

He told Kwankwaso that he was a victim of trumped-up charges.

In an emotion-laden speech, Al-Mustapha, who was released via the Court of Appeal judgment on Friday, regretted that he was returning to an empty home.

He said he lost both parents while in detention.

He stated, “I must say that I lost my father and my mother, whom I was forced to see only two times in 15 years.

“Even when the court forced the authorities to allow them to set my eyes on them, the approvals of the court were flagrantly refused. And I was kept and punished the more just as a ploy to ensure that I did not set eyes on my parents.

“I saw my father in 2001, and later in May 2007. My mother, I was allowed to see in 2001 August, and then I was allowed also to see her after a long battle, in 2006 and she died last year, in the month of Ramadan.

“Things we went through are things that I cannot sum up anywhere, but all I can say is that yesterday is gone.

Those who have perpetrated what they did against us have done it in their own deductions, analysis, feelings but to us yesterday is gone. We have drawn a line and we have forgiven them. We are forging ahead to set examples.”

Al-Mustapha commended Fasehun, describing him as a detribalised Nigerian.

He stated, “I have found a father—highly dogmatic, a senior citizen of this country, a detribalised elder, an intellectual, a person that is a father indeed with a wide shoulder and a big hearts a man that is very reliable, responsible, dependable, Dr. Fredrick Fasheun.”

Nigerians Challenge Patience Jonathan To Debate With Soyinka

soy pej

(Punch) – Some Nigerians on Sunday asked the wife of the President, Patience Jonathan, to make herself available for a debate with Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka.

The call came on the heels of the diatribe the First Lady launched against Soyinka in which she described the renowned playwright as an “embarrassment’’ for attributing the crisis rocking Rivers State to her and her husband, President Goodluck Jonathan.

But some Nigerians, who took to Twitter and other social networks to voice their concern over the development, called on a Lagos-based private broadcaster, Channels Television, to organise a debate for the two.

According to them, the TV station’s Sunrise Daily, a news and current affairs programme that features prominent Nigerians, who are experts in their areas of specialisation, will provide a level playing ground for the duo to thrash out the knotty issues they were arguing on.

To actualise their dreams, a cross section of them sent messages in a tweet to the handle of the programme @sunrisedailynow as well as the main official handle of the television station, @Channels_TV on Sunday.

A Twitter user, with the name Abdul Slimzy, tweeting via @abdulslimzy said, “It would be really nice to see Patience Jonathan and Wole Soyinka argue on Channels TV @sunrisedailynow in English Language o.”

An anonymous reader on lindaikeji.blogspot.com said, “Kindly call on Channels TV to organise a debate between Prof. Wole Soyinka and Dame Patience Jonathan. I know we go laugh pass ‘Night of a Thousand Laugh.’’’

Another user of the micro-blogging service with the name, Hig-Wayne Cannon, who uses the handle @dosinclair, said he would be looking forward to the debate on national TV as it would be a clash of the titans. Cannon notes, “You can expect a volcanic grammatical literary of freestyles. What a collabo #Titans.”

However, some users of the micro-blogging service boasted that the wife of the President would come out tops after the debate. One of such users of the social network who beat his chest on this was Yakubu Dogara who tweets via @doyakubu.

He says, “I bet it that Dame Patience will win the debate as it will be unwise for the Prof. (Wole Soyinka) to attend much more utter a word.”

Another Nigerian tweeting via @hobalawon said Soyinka, who clocked 79 on Saturday, should simply steer clear of joining issues with the First Lady and save himself from being on the receiving end of public bashing which he described as “lethal weapon’’ emanating from her.

The social network user noted, “Prof, even at 79, we still need you around.”

Meanwhile, the exchange of diatribe between the duo has divided Nigerians on social networks. While a section of Nigerians argue that the First Lady shouldn’t have descended heavily on Soyinka and that the onslaught was unpresidential, others maintained that Soyinka got what he deserved.
On nairaland.com, a Nigerian with the name, My Time, argued, “I still maintain that Patience Jonathan has no moral justification to attack the professor. Her only portfolio is being the wife of the President. Soyinka has achieved a lot and demands respect. He is one of our national icons and a gift to this nation. He commands more respect outside the shores of this country than she does and can ever get.’’

An anonymous visitor on the blog noted, “I see this current government and her (Patience Jonathan) agenda losing their taste of civility and moral standing. I don’t see any reason why the First Lady should talk to an elderly statesman with such verbal brutality, irrespective of what he (Soyinka) said to her. Really, I think it’s quite unpresidential.’’

However, those who believe that Soyinka deserved Patience Jonathan’s onslaught against him said it was wrong for Soyinka to insult another man’s wife in the first place. They noted that since Soyinka had descended into an arena of conflict, he could not avoid such a treatment.

On lindaikeji.blogspot.com, one Abidoh Jonathan said, “Why exactly are people abusing the First Lady? Prof. Wole Soyinka made a derogatory remark about her, and she reacted with an on-point come back. What is the big deal? If you ask me, I think the Prof stooped too low to comment and link the First Lady to the current crisis rocking Rivers State. He is a renowned Prof. but hello, she too is still the First Lady now and she deserves some respect.”

President Jonathan Is Behind Rivers Crisis -Tinubu

tinubu jona

Former governor of Lagos state and leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Ahmed Tinubu, said Sunday he was ready to face a truth he claimed many were afraid of: that President Goodluck Jonathan was behind the crisis rocking Rivers state House of Assembly.

“The PDP and the presidency were quick to disavow any involvement,” he said of the violence that erupted in that assembly last week. “However, we all know the truth but most are afraid to speak. I shall speak. There is no way the police and the small number of five lawmakers would act so brazenly unless they receive instructions for their high places.”

Despite denials from the presidency, many Nigerians have continued to place on President Jonathan, the responsibility for the crisis in Rivers state, where an attempt by five lawmakers to remove the speaker against the wishes of 27, resulted in a free-for-all on Wednesday.

While the 27 lawmakers back Governor Chibuike Amaechi, who is enmeshed in a prolonged faceoff with President Jonathan, the remaining five, led by Evans Bipi, a relative of First Lady, Patience Jonathan, are said to be in support of the president.

At least four lawmakers were injured in the violence that followed the impeachment attempt.
The presidency only issued a disclaimer days after as a swelling public opinion placed the
responsibility for the incident on Mr. Jonathan and his wife.

Mr. Tinubu, a known critic of the president, said all indicators were clear for a safe conclusion that the president manipulated the events that day.

“Nigerians must ask, ‘Is this the way the President Jonathan intends to transform Nigeria? By turning it from an imperfect democracy into a perfect mess. A total lack of respect for constitutional democracy is what we are witnessing,’” he said.

“In what stable and functioning democracy can you find a President or his agents bully a governor this way or violate the federal constitution so openly with complete impunity?”
The former governor tasked other leaders to defend the Rivers state governor and deplored the alleged role of the police to stop the unrest.

“All this occurred under the watchful eye but idle hand of the police officers deployed to guard the chamber. We can say the police in Rivers became an accomplice to an illegal attack on the very government and constitution they pledged to uphold. This was a shameful moment but even worse it is a likely foretaste of the partisan role the police will take incoming elections,” he said.

“The PDP appears to have added public brawling to its list of accomplishments. The self-proclaimed largest party in Africa has turned into a fight club that employs the police as ushers for its matches.”

The ACN leader said the incident was hardly surprising as it was clear Mr. Amaechi had long been “marked” by the powers that be since his stance on the contentious border dispute between Bayelsa and Rivers state over oil wells.

“Discerning minds must locate the present crisis in the suspected injustice in the Bayelsa and Rivers State oil boundary legal battle,” he said.

“For standing up in defence of the interest of his people, Governor Amaechi became a marked person. The irreconcilable political differences between main actors in Rivers State soon magnified the crisis with heavy lifting from the presidency.”

Baba Suwe Heads To Supreme Court Over N25m NDLEA Compensation

Baba Suwe In Court
Baba Suwe In Court

Popular actor, Babatunde Omidina, AKA Baba Suwe, has headed to the Supreme Court after the Court of Appeal quashed N25 million awarded to him as damages in an alleged drug trafficking case.
In an appeal filed on July 12 at the apex court, Baba Suwe said that the justices of the appellate court erred when they overturned a high court judgment in his favour.

A Lagos High Court had in November 2011 ordered the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, to compensate Mr. Omidina for keeping him in custody beyond the legal time limit on the suspicion of drug ingestion.

However, in a judgment by the appellate court 18 months later, the Justice Chima Nweze-led panel held that the award of N25 million to Mr. Omidina as damages for the violation of his fundamental human rights was “perverse” and “wrong.”

“The detention was not up to a year, what then informs the award of N25 million?” Rita Pemu, who read the lead judgment, asked.

“There was simply no basis for that; he was held for nine days,” the judge added.
The NDLEA arrested Mr. Omidina on 12th October, 2011, at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, on his way to Paris on the suspicion of ingestion of drugs.

After he had not excreted any hard drug for nine days, the agency secured a Federal High Court detention order and held him for a further ten days.

In his seven ground appeal through Bamidele Aturu, his lawyer, Mr. Omidina urged the Supreme Court to set aside the decision of the Court of Appeal.

Mr. Aturu said that the matter before the court was a violation of his fundamental rights and a criminal matter.

“As every arrest and detention is ‘based on something,’ if the decision of the Court of Appeal were right or sound then there can no longer be a substantive fundamental right matter based on arrest and detention,” Mr. Aturu said.

In the appellate court’s judgment, Ms. Pemu held that the NDLEA was right in securing an order from the court to detain Mr. Omidina for a further 15 days.
But Mr. Aturu argued that there was evidence that his client was held for nine days without being charged to court, adding that he excreted regularly during the detention period.

“The law does not empower the respondent first to detain a person and then fish for evidence in the name of ‘supervising excretion,’” said Mr. Aturu.

“It is a notorious medical fact that no substance ingested can remain in the human intestine beyond 48 hours provided such human is passing stool normally and that it takes an average of 18-24 hours for food to traverse the intestines,” he added.

Inside The Weird Church In Ogun State Where Animals Are Slaughtered For Sacrifice, Guests Served Alcoholic Drinks

dike-prophet-612x300

Welcome to a weird church where animals are freely slaughtered for sacrifice. As you step into this place of worship, you are confronted with the sight of a spot on the right that will make you conclude that you may have strayed into a slaughterhouse.

Even though insinuations of a slaughterhouse stick out starkly and grisly, this is by no means an abattoir. There is neither buying and selling of meat in this worship centre called As God Said, It Must Done, The Temple of The Most High God.

An evangelist at the church explained that the spot is called the ‘Earth Altar’ and that it’s where different types of sacrifices are offered unto God.

Located on a street named after it, Off Fakunle Street, Oke-Aro in Ogun State, a suburb near Lagos, the church is neither Pentecostal nor orthodox. All the same, both the shepherd and the sheep are strongly convinced that they are serving the living God the right way.

This reporter gathered that the blood splattered all over the ‘Earth Altar’ is that of animals. Similarly, in sharp dissonance, the mode of worship verges on the oddity, just as members cling on to what many people will consider unusual beliefs and teachings of the church.

As your curiosity wanders untrammeled at the multihued sight of the church and the strangeness of its name, you meet Prophet Blessed Dike, the general overseer and self-styled seer. He tells you with celestial audacity that God revealed the name of the church to him while in a trance. “While I was praying God gave me the name of this church from the Book of Isaiah 46 verse 11”, he said.
A probing by this reporter further revealed that besides the ‘Earth Altar’, the church also has a place called the ‘Holy of Holies.’ A worker in the church, Mr. Isaiah Anyaehie explains that the ‘Holy of Holies’ was put up as a replica of the ark of God built by Moses in the Old Testament. Like the pool of Bethesda in the Bible, members believe that anytime you are sick and you climb into the ‘Holy of Holies’, you would instantly receive your healing.

Here, members show forth when they also want to receive forgiveness of sins and other requests from God. “We have access to the ‘Holy of Holies’ anytime there is a special programme in the church. When you ascend into the ‘Holy of Holies’, you would be healed of whatever ailment you have and whatever you ask God for, He would do it for you,” another member said.

While you are still wondering why the entire premises is painted in red and white, the self-styled seer tells you that white symbolizes peace while red is totemic as it blots out sins.

“God used the blood to wipe out the sins of Adam and Eve. We offer sacrifices because that is what God commands. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and other great men in the Bible offered sacrifices,” he said.
A female member of the church revealed to this reporter that members of this church are expected to wear red or white attires every first and last Sunday of the month. On the floor of the auditorium, there are straight red lines drawn across the floor. She explained that the red lines are Angels’ pathways. “God revealed to Daddy to make those pathways because angels usually visit the church,” she said.

There are two types of sacrifices that are offered in As God Said It Must Be Done, the Temple of The Most High God, this reporter gathers. There is the sacrifice of atonement, which is offered when seeking forgiveness of sins from God. In carrying out the sacrifice, the prophet slaughters whatever animal the member provides at the ‘Earth Altar’ and ‘forgiveness’ is obtained from God after the prophet has prayed and blessed the person.

There is also the sacrifice of thanksgiving offered when a member wants to thank God for a favour granted him by God. The type of animal used for this type of sacrifice may vary based on individual needs. “You can bring a cow, a ram, a goat, a chicken or even a dove,” another female member of the church said.

Creepy and funny caveats are never in short supply at As God Said It Must Be Done, the Temple of The Most High God. For instance, a woman who is in her monthly cycle is not allowed to enter into the temple; else, she may be visited by God’s wrath.

Prophet Dike said “It’s a sin for a woman to come into the church while she is observing her menstrual flow. It is a very terrible thing. No woman has the right to come into the presence of God while she is menstruating.”

Despite his weird doctrines, Prophet Dike is very hospitable albeit in a way that one may describe as shocking. As soon as visitors to the church among whom was this reporter stepped into the auditorium, he instructs his workers to bring them refreshments.

This consists of two cartons of canned Guinness, popularly known as small stout. While you are yet to overcome the shock of seeing a prophet of God serve alcoholic drinks in the church, he further instructs that some bottles of whisky be brought to entertain his guests.

Seeing the surprise on the faces of his visitors, he immediately explained the reasons for his actions. “There is nothing like alcohol or strong drink in the bible, so where did you get that from? In Deuteronomy 14 verse 26, God says, “You shall spend that money for whatever your heart desires, for oxen or sheep, for wine or similar drink, for whatever your heart desires, you shall eat there
before the Lord your God and you shall rejoice, you and your household.”

God told us to spend our income on what we want. If a man calls himself a man of God and he doesn’t have money, the anointing would turn to annoyance. It is better that you drink in the House of God than to go to a public place and misbehave” he said. Before the prophet was through with attending to his visitors, he had gulped two bottles of small stout.

“Are you not afraid of going to hell” this reporter queries the prophet? Then he laughs hysterically and said “It is unfortunate that you have been taught the wrong doctrine from the time you were little. Who told you that hell exists? Heaven and hell do not exist. Can a spirit judge a spirit? There is nothing like heaven or hell. They don’t exist. All the punishment is here on earth. If a man cannot feed himself and his family, he is living in hell. If he cannot pay his house rent and cannot afford to buy a car for himself, he is living in hell. When your mates are enjoying life and you cannot enjoy it, you are living in hell.

“If you are suffering, it means that God is punishing you for something you have done, so there is no hell anywhere. When a man dies, that is the end. He does not go anywhere and God does not judge him. In Mark 12, verses 18 to 27, it is written there that “God is not the God of the dead but of the living.

“So what death are we talking about? If you are living well and you are enjoying your life, you are living in heaven. People like Aliko Dangote, Adenuga, Otedola, Obasanjo and other rich men are living in heaven already. In the Bible, it is written that it’s God’s wish that we live in health and prosper even as our soul prospers.”

Led by God to steal?

Reflecting on how he came into the ministry as well as his early encounter with the “holy spirit”, Prophet Dike hinted “From my tender age, I used to steal a lot. Wherever any person kept money, I would steal it, even if I was not there when the money was being kept. You may have money in your pocket and you would not know when I would take it.

“I remember when my father used to hide his money in the spring bed in his room. Though I wasn’t around when he kept it, but the spirit of God would lead me to where the money was and I would just go straight to the room and to the exact spot where he kept the money and steal it. I did not know that it was the hand of God that was at work in me.

“This thing continued and because of that, my father sent me to Benin after my primary education. I went there but I continued having the same problems until I finally came to Lagos. It was while I was in Lagos that Jesus appeared to me and gave me the message from God.

“On April 14, 2001 by 7am, I was approaching Omole Phase 1 Estate when Jesus appeared to me in the form of a young man. I remember that I had a cigarette in my mouth and I thought that the odour of the smoke would offend him .He told me “Son, my father is calling you”.

“I had this encounter three times. In one of such encounters, Jesus came to my shop where I was a panel beater and told me, ‘Son, my father has need for you. The time for panel beating is up, now is the time to panel beat your children. Father said you are too stubborn, but if you think you are stubborn, He’s more stubborn than you.’

“After He said that, He disappeared and I didn’t see him again. I still did not obey. I went from one shop to the other but it was one misfortune after the other. At a time, my shop got burnt and that was when I decided to obey God’s instruction. That is why till date, no one can come out and say he shepherded me. I do not have any human mentor; it’s God that is my mentor. He speaks to me all the time and when I need anything, I go to Him for advice. No man can say he ordained me. It was God
that ordained me.”

Man of God or Anti-Christ?

“People can call me names. Some may say I am an antichrist. Others may say I am Ogboni, but I do not care. My calling was foretold in the Bible. The book of Isaiah 42 verses 1-2, says “Keep silent before me, oh Islands and let the people renew their strength. Let them speak; let them come near and let them speak; let us come near together to judgment. Who raised up the righteous man from the east, called him to his foot, gave the nations before him, and made him rule over kings? He gave them as the dust to his sword and as driven stubble to his blow.” The man from the East that God was referring to is me,” Prophet Dike boasted and added that “On October 28, 2012, I met with God in the Garden of Eden. In that revelation, Oyedepo was there, Adeboye was there, Okonkwo was there, Pope John Paul was there and so many other pastors. While we were meeting, God was very angry and told me to drive them away , because they were not doing His will and they were encouraging people to worship Jesus instead of God. Four months after that, the Pope died. God raised me to test people to know whether they are obeying the law of God or the law of men. There is nothing like the trinity. What we have is God, the Word and the Spirit. And those are the three witnesses.”

God is angry with Nigeria

“One of the reasons why God is angry with Nigeria is because they have abandoned the day that God said the New Year should be celebrated. They are now celebrating January 1 as the New Year day. It is totally wrong. New Year should be celebrated on July 10 each year and not on January 1. In the book of Leviticus 16 verse 29, God says: “This shall be a statute forever for you. In the seventh month on the tenth day of the month, you shall afflict your souls and do no work at all, whether a native of your own country or a stranger who dwells among you.”, he quipped.

On the New Testament

More curious to know why some of their doctrines negate what is written in the Bible, especially in the New Testament, Prophet Dike said “the New Testament is the mind of man but the Old Testament is the mind of God.

“In the Old Testament, God spoke directly to the prophets and they wrote down what He said, but in the New Testament, the disciples only wrote their minds. For instance, there is nothing like being born again because God can never be born again. The New Testament is not the mind of God. It is men speaking and not God. In the book of Matthew for instance, what is written there is the mind of Matthew and not the mind of God. But in the Old Testament, God spoke directly to his prophets. He spoke directly to people like Moses, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Solomon and so on.”

One of the cardinal points of Christianity is the belief that Jesus Christ is the son of God, and that he died for the sins of the world and rose again. Prophet Dike is furious over these assertions. “Jesus was just a servant and not God. He has finished his duty on earth the same way other prophets finished their calling,he said adding “Any Christian that leaves God and starts giving glory to Jesus should be ashamed. Jesus can never be God. He is not the savior and he did not die for anyone. Anyone that tells you that Jesus is the son of God is a fraud and is not of God. Do the Muslims worship Mohammed? No. They worship only God, but you see Christians worshiping Jesus and even equating him with God.

“In the book of Deuteronomy, God says he is the only one that should be worshiped and that we should not bow down to any image. So why do people worship Jesus when he is just a prophet? He did not die for anybody’s sins. He died just like any other human being. If he died for you, why are many people still afraid to go to their villages? If you say that Jesus is the only son of God, then what was Adam? Was he not also a son?

“When Adam who was made in the image of God could not save you, then who is Jesus to save you? I don’t want to hear the name of Jesus because he is not God and has never been God. God is very angry with Nigeria because they have taken His glory and given it to a mortal man. Why we have this high level insecurity is because of God’s wrath.”

This reporter sought to know from some members why they attend the church and if they are not skeptical of the doctrines propagated by the prophet. The leader of the men’s fellowship in the church, Mr. Richard Onyekachukwu said that he would continue attending the church because God used the prophet to raise him from the dead.

His wife, Esther confirmed his claim. According to her, “My husband was admitted at LASUTH (Lagos State University Teaching Hospital) for what started as fever. The situation gradually worsened and he eventually died. Doctors had certified him dead and his brothers had started making plans to take him to the village for burial. But when I called the prophet, without seeing my husband, he prayed for him and he came back to life.” [Sunnews]

Husband Kills Wife Over Breastfeeding Of Twins

A man identified as Endurance Enadeba, has allegedly killed his wife in Benin during an argument on breastfeeding of their newborn set of twins. The incident happened in Upper Sakponba area of Benin, as the couple was preparing for the naming ceremony of their twins.

The tragedy followed an argument on when the woman identified as Osarumwense should breastfeed the babies. According to eyewitnesses, the couple celebrated the birth of the twins last Sunday and was preparing for the naming ceremony when the tragedy occurred.

The husband, Endurance Enadeba, was said to have hit the wife on the head with an object, which resulted in her death. He was said to have requested the wife to breastfeed the babies who were crying, but the woman reportedly said she wanted to urinate first.

The witnesses said the husband went to where the wife was to urinate, and a fracas ensued, which led to the man hitting the wife on the head. Father of the deceased woman, who gave his name as Eghenayayore, was seen weeping, and cursing profusely over the corpse.

He explained that his daughter called to inform him about the incident, but that she died before they rushed her to the hospital, adding that the husband fled when the wife collapsed. “He killed my daughter because of breastfeeding the twins. The twins are at home now, who will give them breastmilk? Why did he kill my young daughter? This girl was born in 1996. We were preparing to name the babies tomorrow, because it was their first issue,” Eghenayayore said.

When contacted, Edo Police Command Spokesman, DSP Moses Eguavoen confirmed the incident and said the husband has been arrested from where he was hiding.

Train Crushes Car In Ibadan [Photo]

A man, Mr Sola Ibitoye, narrowly escaped death on Saturday at Sango Railway Crossing in Ibadan, Oyo State, when his Renault car with registration number GF 821 KJA was crushed by a moving train at about 4.42p.m.
The passenger train, which a source at the scene of incident said was Ilorin-bound, dragged the car a few metres from the railway to the side of the rail line, rendering it a total write-off.
The driver and owner of the vehicle said that he wanted to make a u-turn at the rail line when the engine of his car went off.

He added that he tried to jumpstart the car but the railway was slippery so his attempts were unsuccessful.

Saying that he did not know that the train was close by until someone notified him, Mr Ibitoye stated that he tried to get passersby to help him push the car off the rail line but none of them was willing to help, except one person, whose efforts joined to his own could not take the car off the way.
Confirming the story, the District Public Relations Officer, Francis Unyimadu, said that the usual thing was for railway officials to stop vehicles five minutes to the arrival of the train, which was done by the official stationed at the Sango railway crossing.

He added that the driver of the affected vehicle tried to make a u-turn but stopped on the rail track in the process, while efforts to help him push the vehicle off proved abortive.
He stated further that the damage to the passenger train was not yet known as the train could not stop, adding that the Corporation’s engineer would assess the damage later.

He further warned motorists to obey instructions when asked to stop at the approach of train, saying that the train, because of its nature, has the right of way wherever there is a railway crossing.
The Divisional Crime Officer of Bodija Railway Police Station was at the scene of the accident, while it was noted that hoodlums, in the guise of sympathising with the car owner, had stolen the car battery as it could not be seen.

Moyes Loses First Game As Head Coach Of Manchester United.

Sir Alex Ferguson's first game in charge of Manchester United was a
2-0 loss at Oxford United, likewise new manager, David Moyes who
suffered a 1-0 defeat to Singha All Stars in Thailand on Saturday.

All Star Captain, Teeratep Winothai scored the only goal on 50 minutes
at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok, beating Ben Amos at
his near post.
"It wasn't a brilliant result but this wasn't one we desperately
needed to win," said Moyes.
"It is one we needed to get prepared to win games."
In the absence of Robin van Persie, Nani, David de Gea, Javier
Hernandez, Nemanja Vidic and Wayne Rooney; 18-year-old Adnan Januzaj
shone in the midfield for United while former Crystal Palace winger
Wilfred Zaha was unlucky not to score an equalizer on his debut, his
shot hitting the far post with just eight minutes to play.

"Wilfried did well," said Moyes. "He gave us something different.
"We have brought him here to give him a chance. It is the first time I
have worked with him and had a chance to see him up close.
"He will certainly be part of the squad and we will see where we can
fit him in as often as we can."
United now travel to Sydney, where Van Persie and David de Gea will
