Oba, seven others remanded in prison

An Oba of Egbin in Ikorodu, Oba Adeoriyomi Obateru, 48 and seven others were yesterday arrainged before a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ikeja, over an alleged murder of one inspector Ikpi Ikipi. The presiding Magistrate, Demi-Ajayi, ordered that the defendants be remanded in Kirikiri Maximum prisons. The others suspects are Oderinde Olawole 51, Saliu Bilinu 43, Hassan Otija 25, Yaya Olaiya 26, Kamolu Odunbanjo 30, Yusuf Sulaimon Alabi (alias Suddan) 33 and Adesina Ojo 32. The defendants who were docked before Chief Magistrate O.A Demi-Ajayi, are facing eleven-count charge of conspiracy, murder, attempted murder, robbery, terrorism and unlawful confraternity,   preferred against them by the police. The defendants and others at large, were said to have committed the alleged crime between 21 and 22 of May 2013, at Imowonla Village in Ikorodu area of Lagos. When the charge was read to the defendants, they pleaded not guilty to the eleven count charge preferred against them by the police but their plea was not taken. The prosecutor, Acting Superintendent of Police  Chukwu Agwu, told the court that  Oba Obateru alongside  others committed the alleged crime on May 22, 2013, at about 2.25am at Imowonla Villiage in Ikorodu area of Lagos. He said that the Oba unlawfully killed one Inspector Ikpi Ikpi, aged 45,who was attached to Mopol 22 Police Squadron in Ikeja, by shooting him with a gun. Agwu, said that Obateru and the other defendants, attempted to murder one Corporal Iwaloye Olasunbo, with number F/NO 595875 and Corporal Daniel Amodu with NO 44541 attached to Mopol 22 Police Squardron Ikeja by inflicting cuts on their heads and all over their body with matchets, which caused them grievious harm. Counsel to the Oba and second and third defendants, O. Fabunmi, told the court that the name of the first defendant is different from what is on the charge sheet, giving the supposedly right name as Akeem Adeoriyomi Oyebo, the Obateru of Egbin in Ikorodu via Ijede. He said that it is the wrong person that has been brought to court, adding that the charge preferred against the first defendant is a wrong charge because of the name. Fabunmi, urged the court to grant the first defendant bail in a very liberal term but the Magistrate refused his bail application on the grounds that the case before her is unlawful killings and as such she won’t grant him bail. However Magistrate Demi-Ajayi, ordered that the defendants be remanded in Kirikiri Maximum prisons pending the DPP’s advice and adjourned to July, 29, 2013.

Chelsea Release Florent Malouda, Paulo Ferreira And Yossi Benayoun

Florent Malouda and Paulo Ferreira are among the high-profile players who will leave Chelsea this summer. France winger Malouda and Portugal full-back Ferreira will not be retained when their contracts are up at the end of the month. And the list of departures also includes Yossi Benayoun and goalkeepers Ross Turnbull and Hilario. Malouda was a second-half substitute in Chelsea's Champions League final triumph against Bayern Munich little more than a year ago, but that proved to be his final appearance for the club. The 32-year-old, who made 230 appearances following a £13.5m move from Lyon in 2007, was not even given a squad number this season. Ferreira's exit comes after a nine-year spell featuring three Premier League title wins while Benayoun, who returned to Stamford Bridge last season after a year at Arsenal, did not convince the Chelsea hierarchy he was worth a new deal. The departures of Turnbull and Hilario, meanwhile, will inevitably lead to speculation over the future of Thibaut Courtois. The young Belgian keeper has spent the past two seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid and said recently he would like to stay in Spain for a third year.

Nigeria’s Central Bank Governor, Sanusi, Unable To Shake Off Sex Scandal As More Evidence Surface

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Nigeria's Central Bank Governor, appears unable to shake off a report that he funneled public funds to Maryam Yaro, a married mistress whom he gave a job at the bank he oversees. Premium Times was first to report the scandal in which Mr. Sanusi was accused of abusing his office in order to advance an amorous relationship with a woman. Several sources told SaharaReporters that Premium Times has been under intense pressure from associates of the CBN Governor since the expose was published. In the wake of the report, the CBN also issued a widely circulated rebuttal claiming that Ms. Yaro was never a staff of the bank, that she was employed at Nigeria Incentive-based Risk Sharing Systems For Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL), and that the governor had no hand in her recruitment. But records obtained by SaharaReporters suggest that the bank's claims are an attempt to muddle up the facts. NIRSAL, to which Ms. Yaro is attached, is a special purpose vehicle (SPV) set up by the Federal Government through a partnership between the CBN and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture. Besides, the project is domiciled in the Development Finance Department of the CBN. It is the CBN's human resource department that hires staff for NIRSAL, and it is Mr. Sanusi who approves all recruitments into the agency, insiders say. Records available to us indeed showed that, contrary to the CBN's claims, Mr. Sanusi directly and personally approved Ms. Yaro's recruitment. Investigations by SaharaReporters revealed that, after approving Ms. Yaro's hiring and sending her file back to the bank's human resource department, Mr. Sanusi sent a message to his mistress on June 25, 2012 saying, "I'm in South Africa. I approved your recruitment last week." Ten minutes later, Ms. Yaro responded: "You have made my day. Thank you so much. Let me know when you are back." When the human resource department delayed in sending her appointment letter, Ms. Yaro contacted Mr. Sanusi to complain. "I have not heard anything from CBN since you approved my recruitment," she wrote in a July 9, 2012 message. "Is there anything I need to do?" A source told SaharaReporters that, following her complaint, Mr. Sanusi contacted the CBN human resource department urging them to expedite action on her case. Eight days later, on July 17, 2012, Ms. Yaro informed Mr. Sanusi that the human resource department had finally acted on his instruction. "Allah nguro, I have been issued my letter of offer," she said in a message. "Thank you so much. When can I come and see you?" When she submitted her acceptance letter to human resource, Ms. Yaro promptly informed Mr Sanusi and thanked him again for helping her to get the job. After Ms. Yaro assumed duties at the CBN headquarters in Abuja, the human resource department produced a business card for her. In it she was described as follows: "Dr. Maryam W. Yaro, Nirsal Project Implementation Office (NPIO), Development Finance Department, Central Bank of Nigeria." Even the documents released by the CBN are clear as to whether Ms. Yaro could be regarded as a staff of the CBN, and whether the governor played a role in her recruitment. For instance, official memos detailing the processes leading to her recruitment are marked "internal," originating from NIRSAL to other units of the bank. Her appointment letter, written on CBN letterhead, was signed by Chizoba Mojekwu, director, human resources department of the bank. The CBN's so-called rebuttal did not say why its human resource director would sign an appointment letter for a staff or consultant of another agency independent of the bank. In its rebuttal, the bank provided evidence of communications leading to Ms. Yaro's employment in 2012, but provided none relating to any public announcement of the vacancy she filled. The law requires that such a post must be publicly announced to enable interested candidates to apply. The details show that the bank treated Ms. Yaro's employment expressly, with memos between NIRSAL office and CBN's top management indicating how Mr. Sanusi endorsed her recruitment. In one document seen by SaharaReporters, a helpless staff of the bank raised concern about Ms. Yaro's recruitment. In a memo requesting Mr. Sanusi's approval of the recruitment, the concerned staff minuted: "Please approve as prayed above. We should take into account diversity in future recruitment." In approving the recruitment, Mr. Sanusi dismissed the staff's concern, and wrote: "Approved. I think gender is a good basis for diversity here and candidate is qualified." Ms. Yaro's recruitment process took a matter of weeks, and she received her letter of offer in July 17, 2012 and promptly communicated same to the CBN boss while also informing him of her planned date of assumption of duties. Some sources within the CBN suggested to SaharaReporters that some of the documents circulated by the CBN were forged and backdated as a face-saving measure. However, SaharaReporters was unable to independently confirm the allegation. SaharaReporters learned that the details of the affair between Mr. Sanusi and Ms. Yaro have stirred anger and outrage within the bank and beyond. Critics have focused on the fact that Mr. Sanusi, a public officer, traveled on jets funded by taxpayers to keep appointments with Ms. Yaro at expensive hotels. Until this scandal broke, Mr. Sanusi was highly respected even if some of his policies, like doling cash to victims of terrorist attacks in Kano, were controversial. Mr. Sanusi led revolutionary reforms in the banks when he came on board in 2009 and has remained critical and outspoken on several government policies despite serving in the administration. He has also repeatedly advocated adherence to the rule of law. On the other hand, Mr. Sanusi has had his defenders. Many of these defenders have brushed aside glaring evidence of misconduct by Nigeria's chief banker, instead accusing news reporters who worked on the story of witch-hunting Mr. Sanusi and attempting to defame him. Senior officials of Premium Times said they expected the backlash, even as they stated that they stood firmly by their story. "We knew the story was going to shock a lot of people," said Idris Akinbajo acting managing editor at the publication. "We were under no illusion that it would take a lot of time for many to swallow the bitter truth of the revelations made in the story." He added, "We have discharged our responsibility of providing information we believe citizens need in order to hold officials accountable. Mr. Akinbajo continued, "Our job is done, as we will only continue to provide additional information as necessary. It is left for Nigerians to either demand accountability or live without it - and so continue to celebrate the indiscretions of their leaders." The executive added: "We stand firmly by our story and look forward to the moment the CBN Governor will boldly look Nigerians in the face and say any of the things we reported did not happen."

BREAKING NEWS: Chelsea Agree £20m Deal to Secure First Summer Signing.

Chelsea have reportedly agreed a £20m deal to sign Andre Schurrle according to the Guardian.  The Blues have been tracking the 22 year old German international for some time, failing with two earlier bids for the Bayer Leverkusen forward, and this source claims that the Bundesliga side have confirmed a deal has been agreed with the Premier League side.  “We have reached an agreement with Chelsea,” Bayer Leverkusen general manager Wolfgang Holzhäuser told the Rheinische Post newspaper.  “They are going to buy André Schürrle for a specific fee and, in return, they will loan De Bruyne to us for a year for free.  “I expect Chelsea to stand by what has been agreed.”

‘Why I don't discuss the paternity of my daughter - Omawumi

Omawumi opened up to Thisday entertainment contributor, Seun Opara, on
the reasons why she does not like discussing the paternity of her
daughter. She said:

I never hid my child's paternity but I felt that since I'm not
married, I don't need to come out and say this is the father of my
child. It is always ideal for someone who wants to marry you to be the
one to identify himself. Another thing is that he might not want to
identify himself because he is not an artiste. He might not want that
part of my life. He might just love me and my child. So I like to
respect people's privacy. I also strongly feel that it is my job as a
musician to entertain you and if you feel like my personal life is
your business, it doesn't mean I feel the same way.

Initially when I got pregnant, I didn't feel the need to come out and
start telling people that this is the father of my child. I didn't
feel I owed it to anyone.
She says a lot more. Read after the jump...

My family and my close friends know who the father of my child is
because we're in a relationship. We have a very healthy relationship
and our families are intertwined. I don't think I need to start
telling people all this.

I felt so bad about the stories people are writing about my child's
paternity because normally, controversies don't get to me and my
daughter don't have to be part of this. So when people start putting
that kind of stuffs in print and my daughter stumbles upon it when she
is old enough to read, it will hurt her.

Considering the kind of upbringing I had, I'm not that morally
bankrupt that I will now fraternize with a married man that is like a
father figure to me.

You want to reveal his identity?
I don't feel that will be necessary. I just want to use this
opportunity to tell people that I will try as much as possible to be a
normal artiste and I want to encourage people to try and enjoy my
music. It's not easy but they should just try not to be concerned
about my private life. They should know that I'm a human being and
they should try to understand that I tried to be a person that people
can look up to.

Thought This Only Happen in Movies:Incredible images of the little girl who spent the first ten years of her life growing up in the African bush

Heart-warming pictures of the real life Mowgli, a girl who spent the
first ten years of her life growing up in the African bush, have been
released for the first time.

The magical images chronicle the life of Tippi Benjamine Okanti Degri,
who was brought up with wild animals, just like Rudyard Kipling's hero
did in The Jungle Book.

The images - in the relaunched book - 'Tippi: My Book of Africa' -
show the young girl making friends with an elephant, who she calls her
brother, and a leopard, her best friend.

Living with her French parents, wildlife photographers Sylvie Robert
and Alain Degri, the three of them travelled extensively through
Africa on a unique and incredible trip.

The adventure started where Tippi was born in Namibia, and ended in
her travelling through countries like Botswana, Zimbabwe and South
Africa.

'Her everyday life was making sure monkeys did not steal her bottle,'
said Sylvie.

'Or she would call me over and point to an elephant eating from a palm
tree and say 'mummy, be quiet, we're going to frighten him.'

'She had so much freedom.

'It was like having the biggest playground. We lived in a tent,
completely in the wild, but she always woke up with the sun shining
and her parents around her. She was very lucky.'

And the incredible photos - from sitting on the back of an ostrich,
lying peacefully with a young caracal, or dancing playfully with an
elephant - show an unusual bond and tranquility between man and beast.

'She was so at ease with animals. She would talk to them with her eyes
and her heart,' said Sylvie.

Using her innocence and imagination, the young 'Mowgli' befriended one
of the giants of the animal kingdom, Abu the African elephant.

'She had no fear,' said Sylvie.

'She did not realise she was not the same size as Abu the elephant.
She would just speak to him like she would speak to me. They used to
call her 'the little girl who would talk with animals.'

Tippi was able to form strong bonds with some of the most dangerous
beasts in the animal kingdom because they were used to humans.

Most of the animals had been orphaned and raised by farmers.

However, despite the apparent ease and comfort with which they
interact, Sylvie always put Tippi's safety first.

'You can't just meet any of these animals and act like this with
them,' explains Sylvie.

'Wild animals will either run away or attack you if they are either
frightened, injured or need to protect their young.

So always had to keep a special eye on her daughter.

'I had the least fear I wouldn't have let Tippi anywhere near them.
The photo with Tippi next to the young lion cub Mufasa sucking her
thumb is wonderful.

'The year after this photo we came back and we went to see him and he was huge.

'Mufasa came to Tippi and he friendly brushed her with his long tail,
like a cat would do, and she almost fell down. I had to take her away
- I was not at ease.

'But she was only ever bitten once on the nose by a Meerkat, only two bites!

'This is funny because Tippi's middle name is Okanti, meaning mongoose
or meerkat. They were part of her family in Africa, so I wanted her to
have something to take home with her.'

'The second incident was when she met with Cindy the baboon at a water
point. Cindy attacked Tippi's hair and pulled out a handful, out of
jealousy.

'That was terribly painful! Wild animals are unpredictable. We can't
be sure of their reaction as we are not of the same species, we don't
know all of their behaviour codes.

'When we last went back to Africa in 2006 we went went to see some of
the animals she met in the past, including Cindy the baboon.

'We found out that Cindy is a grandma now : my friend who has raised
her like the baby of the family had twins. Cindy decided that she was
in charge of them and, being older, became like a grandma for the
kids.

'They met each other and Cindy went to Tippi and started playing with
her hair, grooming her. It was quite beautiful.'

And it wasn't only the animals who were taken with the young Tippi, as
Sylvie explains.

'When we came to a village with African children, within two minutes
Tippi was the clown and people found her so cute,' she says.

'Africans love other children - especially white children and she was
so much fun with her hair and so different.

'When we filmed the San Bushmen of northern Namibia (one of the most
ancient people of Africa who live from hunting and gathering in the
Kalahari desert) we would let Tippi spend the day with the group
without us until she would fall asleep among. the kids.

'She was at ease with the children and would dress and play with them
- she could never find the same when she came back to Europe.'

When Tippi returned to her parents' native country - France - at the
age of ten, it was hard adjusting to city life in Paris.

'She missed the animals so much,' said her mother Sylvie.

'We didn't have room for a dog in our flat, so we got a budgie instead.

'It would go everywhere with her, even on the train, flying right by
her side, sitting on her head or falling asleep on her shoulder.

'She loved that little bird so much. He was the only friend she had.'

Now aged 23 and studying her third year in a degree in cinema, Tippi
is facing a different jungle ... the concrete one.

But the memories of her time in Africa - recorded in a series of
interviews and written up into the book - will forever live on through
its pages.

'She gave her heart and thoughts away in her book,' said Sylvie.

'It is like Mowgli's story, but for Tippi it's true.'

Investigation Reveals Paris' suicide was because co-guardian TJ has moved 76 miles away'

He was made a co-guardian of Michael Jackson's three children when the singer died in 2009, along with his grandmother Katherine. But the late superstar's nephew TJ Jackson has reportedly moved 76 miles away from where Paris, 15, Prince, 16, and Blanket, 11, live in LA, without informing Child And Family Services. The authorities are said to have discovered that the 34-year-old now lives two hours away when they inspected the Calabasas home where the 15-year-old reportedly tried to commit suicide on Wednesday, and will now be investigating. A source told The New York Post: 'They thought he was living around the corner. They were totally surprised by this. They’ve said they’re going to need a few days to sort this out.' 'So the bottom line is we have an 83-year-old woman raising teenagers by herself, and that just won’t fly,' they added. TJ is said to have upped sticks and left the area a few months ago and relocated to the town of Corona, and reported failed to tell the correct authorities. But a separate source, close to the estate, said: 'They are very satisfied with him. There is no issue.' The singer, who was appointed co-guardian of his uncle's children last year, was chosen because of his responsible nature and his close proximity to the family. He was made their temporary guardian when his grandmother Katherine went to a spa in Arizona in July 2012 and was reportedly out of contact. But her guardianship rights were reinstated a little while later after a lengthy court battle, and she now shares the duties with her grandson. According to The Hollywood Reporter, documents obtained in March show that Tito Jackson's son currently receives $9,000 a month for his duties as co-guardian. The documents filed with the LA Superior Court state that, at the time, TJ spent four or five days a week in the children's home with them, clocking up an estimated 60-80 hours a week. The singer lived in a residence close by by with his wife and three children before he reportedly relocated. Paris Jackson's mother Debbie Rowe, grandmother Katherine and aunt La Toya Jackson were all spotted visiting her at her LA hospital after she was admitted after her suicide attempt. Sources say that while Paris is close to the Jackson matriach, she has been searching for more guidance. 'Paris loves her grandmother but feels that Katherine can't provide for her emotional needs,' an insider tells People magazine. 'She and Katherine are close, but it just isn't working for Paris. That's why Paris has turned to Debbie Rowe. There is something missing in Paris's life. The family hasn't really taken this serious.' Another source adds that Katherine has been distracted with Michael's wrongful death court case. ' loves Katherine, but Katherine is dealing with the trial - and Katherine is an old woman. Just getting to the trial and back is a big deal for Katherine. She's not really capable of giving Paris all the support she needs,' says the insider. Paris' brother Prince Michael, 16, was pictured in Los Angeles on Thursday with his girlfriend Remi Alfalah. The young couple were spotted shopping at an upmarket department store - perhaps picking out a suitable get-well-soon gift for his sister Paris - before joining Remi's family for a low-key pizza dinner. Prince cancelled his TV engagements for the day and according to RadarOnline.com visited Paris on Thursday at the hospital. The siblings reportedly had 'feuded' recently over Paris spending time with her biological mother Debbie Rowe, with Prince disapproving of their recent reconciliation. A source said Prince put their differences aside after the suicide attempt. 'Prince stepped up, as he always does and told Paris how much he loves her in a phone call and vowed to help her in the aftermath of the suicide attempt,' the source said. Meanwhile, a source told People, 'Paris is doing well, smiling again and can't wait to see her friends.' Source: Daily Mail

Wenger should NOT be trusted to spend Arsenal's £70m, blasts old boy Robson

Manager Arsene Wenger should not be trusted to spend Arsenal's summer transfer budget, according to former Gunners midfielder Stewart Robson. Arsenal are determined to improve the side ahead of next season to mount a long-overdue assault on the Barclays Premier League title, and chief executive Ivan Gazidis has talked about 'an escalation in (the club's) financial firepower' that would allow them to move for a stellar signing. However, Robson, who came through the Arsenal youth system but left Highbury in 1986, long before Wenger's arrival, feels some of the manager's recent transfer dealings should not inspire much hope for the calibre of player who will arrive at the Emirates Stadium ahead of next season. Speaking to talkSPORT, Robson said: 'I am not expecting any marquee signings at Arsenal. There is a lot of talk about it, but I don't know if I would trust Arsene Wenger with that money. 'Over the last few years some of the players that he has said were going to be world class haven't ended up like that - people like Philippe Senderos, Denilson, Marouane Chamakh, Armand Traore, Sebastien Squillaci, Nicklas Bendtner, Carlos Vela, Emmanuel Eboue, Park Chu-young, Lukasz Fabianski, Gervinho and Andre Santos. 'Over the last two seasons they have spent some money on Olivier Giroud, Lukas Podolski, Mikel Arteta, Nacho Monreal, Per Mertesacker and Andre Santos. They haven't been top-class players. 'Arsene Wenger doesn't appear to want to sign the top-class players, or what other people would describe as top-class players. 'He goes out and says: 'I can buy you cheaper players for a better price who are going to be world-class players in the future', but that hasn't been the case in the last few years. 'Some of the players who he has bought have regressed under him like Andrey Arshavin and Thomas Vermaelen. Nacho Monreal hasn't been a good signing and Andre Santos has been hopeless for them. 'Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski are past their best and Gervinho is another player who they spent a lot of money on and hasn't really come to the fore.' Arsenal's wage bill of some £143millon was around 61 per cent of their overall revenue but is set to be reduced this summer Source: Daily Sport

June 12 Is Nonsense, It Is Dead And Buried, Tofa Tells Nigerians

"People who have nothing to offer this country or have nothing better to say can go on talking about June 12 because they have nothing else to say to help this country move forward,' the oil merchant said. Speaking with correspondents in Kano, Tofa described June 12 as nothing but fiction. "We have more problems than to be talking about this nonsense. We want this country to survive and people are still talking about June 12," he fumed. The controversial annulment threw the nation into a cauldron and Babangida was forced to 'step aside'. But Tofa believes that those still referring to an election considered to be a landmark in the country are flogging a dead horse. He said: "For those who don't have anything to offer to this country, they can still be talking about the June 12 presidential election. "I am not one of those people that celebrate fiction, that is the more reason I don't like to be talking again on June 12 presidential election''.

Popular Nollywood Actor, Jide Kosoko’s Daughter Disgraced In Ibadan

In case you didn't know, one of the Nollywood actor, Prince Jide
Kosoko's daughter, Bidemi Kosoko is presently a youth corp member at
Ibadan, Oyo state, Nigeria.
However, many of her fellow corp members are currently complaining
about her snobbish attitude and what some of them have termed as
arrogance.

According to impeccable sources, whenever some of the other corp
members who have seen her movies approach her just to say 'Hi', Bidemi
has away of looking down on them.

"I don't know if Bidemi' doesn't understand that as a celebrity you
should be polite to people, since she began her service close to a
year now, many people at the Community Development Service(CDS) have
been avoiding her due to her arrogant attitude.

The one everyone witnessed recently was this woman who is a Batch A
corp member. She doesn't know her attitude, so she went to her and she
was like 'Sister, please it's like I have seen your face before, but to
this woman's disappointment, Bidemi just looked at the woman from head
to toe and walked away," the source said.

We were also told that because of her celebrity status, Bidemi also
expects to get preferential treatments at her Community Development
Service(CDS).

According to what another source told us, Bidemi who was posted to
Ibadan North Local Government recently came late for her clearance but
was trying to jump queue, but not giving a dime about her status or
her father's, her Local Government Inspector(LGI) Mrs. Ologundudu, a
no-nonsense woman told her point blank to go and join the queue.
This really caused her shame and embarrassment.

Saka Will Port Back To Etisalat After 90 Days – CEO Etisalat Nigeria

The Chief Executive Officer, Etisalat Nigeria Mr.Steve Evans, has described the celebrated porting of the comedian Hafiz Oyetoro popularly known as Saka as a mistake, noting that he will return back to Etisalat fold after 90 days. Speaking in Lagos yesterday at a media Roundtable on Mobile Number Portability (MNP) , Evans noted that "We all make mistakes in life" and the decision by Saka to port from Etisalat to a rival network MTN Nigeria was one of such mistakes on the part of the comedian. In what could be regarded as one of the official statement by any high ranking staff of Etisalat since Saka ported over a month ago, Evans said he is hoping Saka would realise his mistakes and port back at the end of the 90 days grace period given by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for subscribers to port back to any other his original network. The CEO noted that Etisalat was well prepared for the MNP and has built and expanded its network to accommodate over 30 million subscribers which is double its present capacity. He noted that his company has recorded very impressive results since the MNP kicked off on April22. Though he refused to provide the details but said he was satisfied with the report he was getting from his men on the field. Furthermore, Evans maintained that his company has improved tremendously in its Key Performance -indicator (KPI) ratings.

Conrad Murray consoles Paris Jackson

Los Angeles -Michael Jackson's jailed doctor Conrad Murray has sent a consoling message to the late pop icon's daughter Paris after she tried to commit suicide, saying he loved her like a "precious father".

"You are not alone," the medic - convicted of involuntary manslaughter in 2011 over Jackson's death - says in the nearly four-minute message posted by celebrity news website TMZ, citing the title one of Jackson's songs.

"This is a letter to you. I don't know what you're going through, but I'm sure that whatever it is, it must be difficult," he said.

'I am here for you'

The 15-year-old, whose father died in 2009, was rushed to hospital early on Wednesday after trying to cut one of her wrists, a family source told AFP. TMZ said she had also taken 20 Motrin (ibuprofen) pills.

She remained in hospital near her family's home in Calabasas, northwest of Los Angeles, reportedly under a 72-hour psychiatric hold.

"I can tell you're not doing well, and I don't know if there's anything I can do to solve your pain, or help you with your problem. But I wanted you to know that I am here for you," said Murray, serving four years behind bars.

"I always will be available to listen to you, answer your questions or to share with you a plethora of beautiful and favoured untold stories of your father, as well as his venerable thoughts of you that he shared with me."

And Murray, found guilty of giving Jackson an overdose of the powerful anaesthetic propofol to help him sleep, added: When you feel all alone or when your heart feels heavy... just know that you're not alone.

'It was just because of her depression'

"Your daddy loved you beyond any explanation," he told the teenager, adding: "Paris, I too love you as a precious father loves his own child, and I always will."

Paris Jackson has suffered from depression before and is understood to have been treated at least once previously after saying she felt like killing herself.

The family source played down media reports that she was angry because she could not go to a concert by goth rocker Marilyn Manson in Los Angeles on Thursday - although admitted that may have been a factor.

"It wasn't because of that. It was just because of her depression. Probably the last straw she was told that she couldn't go... It's like a teenager, 'I want what I want, I want to do what I want,'" she said.

Manson - real name Brian Hugh Warner - also sent a message to the teenager, via TMZ.

"I hope you feel better. You will be on my guest list anytime you want," he said, hours before his Thursday night show.

Container Truck Crushes Man, Govt Meat Van

Tragedy struck on Thursday at Ikeja Along Bus Stop on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Lagos State, after a heavily loaded 40-foot container truck fell on a government meat van, crushed a passerby, and wounded several others.

Eyewitnesses said the truck had swerved off the road to avoid colliding with some policemen, who were chasing a motorcycle rider, before the incident occurred around 9am.
The victim, identified as Samuel Ogunnaike, was an employee of a popular phone dealer in Computer Village, Ikeja, and was on his way to the office when he met his death.
Any hope that he could survive the accident was dashed after he was trapped for about four hours before his body was retrieved from the wreckage.

The van, Eko Meat Van, with number plate XY 433 AA was levelled after one of the containers fell on it. The driver and three passengers in the vehicle, however, escaped with injuries.
Eyewitnesses blamed the accident on the police.

One of them, Michael Energy, said overzealous policemen, who were chasing a motorcyclist, caused the confusion that led to the accident.
He said, “I was coming from Agege when I saw a commercial motorcyclist, popularly called okada, driving against traffic. He was carrying a man and a lady as passengers.
“Some police officers who were coming from Ikeja Along tried to stop him, but he ignored them.
“They gave him a chase and brushed the okada with their vehicle, which sent the rider and his passengers sprawling on the road.

“Another police van came, and seeing the scene, decided to wait. At this point, the two police vehicles blocked the road.
“The Eko meat van was coming on the same road, and since the police had blocked the major road, he had no option, but to stop.
“The trailer, carrying two containers, was on top speed. I think his brake failed because he was unable to control the speed.
“The driver of the trailer, while trying to avoid colliding with the police officers, swerved and ended up ramming into the van and killing the man who was passing by.”
Energy claimed that immediately the accident occurred, the police vehicles disappeared from the accident scene.

A member of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, who would not want to be named said, the corps treated two of the casualties at the accident scene, before they were taken to the state’s hospital.

He said two other people that were badly injured had also been taken to an undisclosed hospital before the NSCDC officials arrived.
Mukaila Rauf, a 24-year-old meat seller, who escaped unhurt in the meat van, said he sat at the back of the van.

Rauf said, “I saw the police pursuing three bikes. Suddenly, we heard the trailer hooting. He tried avoiding us, but its tail hit the van and one of the containers fell on us. Our driver was badly injured.”
The atmosphere quickly turned to that of hostility as the crowd jeered and booed the policemen who later cordoned off the area.

This began a long line of traffic, just as passengers of vehicles began to disembark and started trekking to their destinations.
A police officer at the scene, however, told Punch Metro that the police was not to blame for the accident.
She claimed that the accident had occurred because the bike rider and the meat van had taken one way.

She said, “The motorcycle and the van were taking one way when the police were trying to stop them. The driver of the truck then on top speed hit the van.”

South-west coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, said, “We got conflicting accounts from the policemen and the public, so we don’t know exactly the number of the casualties and what exactly transpired. We only took out one dead body.”
Timeline of rescue efforts

At 11.00am, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority brought a towing truck which had to be pushed by policemen to the accident scene after it broke down. This drew jeers from the crowd.
When it was 12:00pm, it became clear the truck was useless and had to be abandoned as LASEMA and NEMA brought their generator and gadgets to remove the trapped body.

At 1.14pm, the rescue agents were tired. The generator was off and when they tried to restart it, it didn’t respond for some time.

At 1:16pm-, a bigger towing truck belonging to Dex Project Limited, arrived the scene, but at this time, the body had been retrieved from the gravel-covered ground.

At 1.18pm, Ogunnaike’s corpse was removed and put into a blue bag, then carried into an ambulance belonging to the State’s Environmental Health Monitoring.
School children stuck

Some metres away from the accident, a train was on motion. It was fully loaded with school children from eight different schools who were occupying different compartments of the train.
The children were on excursion.

The train, however, got a call to stop because part of the accident happened on its tracks.
By the time our correspondent was leaving the scene at 2pm, some of the schoolchildren had started disembarking because the road was blocked.

Omosexy talks about her Time Magazine honour

In April 2013, screen goddess Omotola Jalade Ekeinde (pictured above with Justin Timberlake) was honored as one of Time Magazine 100 Most Influential People in the World. According to Omotola, it's an achievement that will forever linger in her memory. She tells Encomium magazine:
"It's a great honour. Sometimes you really don't know your worth and people around you may just take you for granted. I was selected for a number of reasons. From what I was told, they watch a lot of my movies up there. The person who wrote my profile is actually the movie critic for Time magazine. He had been introduced to some of my movies. He also got to know about my other activities, including human rights activism and others. They also conducted opinion polls from those that follow what's going on in Nollywood. I think the opinion of the organisers is based on this. I wasn't the only person picked from Africa. There was another guy from Egypt but he's white and lives in the US. He is a blogger. I was the only black African honoured and out of the 100 honorees, they only picked 20 of our portraits displayed in the Time Work of Fame, and my picture was there. Not only that, it was given the pride of place. One thin I noticed was that from the moment I stepped onto the red carpet, I was treated like a queen. I was on one of the best tables, sitting with US Vice President, Joe Biden and others. I think it was a good moment for Africa. It was one of the few moments I felt like Africa has arrived

Spurs Star Gareth Bale suggests he isn't leaving Tottenham......

Gareth-Bale-has-hinted-that-he-could-stay-at-Tottenham-by-praising-Andre-Villas-BoasGareth Bale has hinted that he could stay at Tottenham by praising Andre Villas-Boas
Bale has been heavily linked with a £60 million move to Real Madrid this summer, despite Tottenham's insistence that the player is not for sale.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is reported to have rebuffed a meeting with Zinedine Zidane over the Welshman's transfer, despite Bale's agent welcoming the interest from Madrid.

However, the 23-year-old has spoken out over how Villas-Boas has improved his performances this season, comments that will encourage Tottenham's stance on keeping him.

"He has helped me in all aspects of my game," Bale told Spurs TV. "In training we have been working on things that I can do in games and in games he has given me the confidence to do what I want and do what I do best, which is a massive thing for a player.

Bale says that Villas-Boas has improved him as a player since becoming Tottenham manager
He [Villas-Boas] has helped me in all aspects of my game
Gareth Bale
"Everyone was excited about him coming in. He is a young manager and he has got a great past at Porto. Maybe not so much at Chelsea but given time, like he has been this season, he has shown what a good manager he is. It has been a very exciting time for the club.

"He has tried his new tactics, his new style of play with us. Sometimes it does take a bit of time just to get used to it and at the start of the season I think that was a bit difficult. But we adapted and got stronger and stronger."

Spurs have ruled out selling Bale to a rival Premier League club - such as Chealsea and Man u- while the Cardiff-born superstar says that he is getting used to the verbal jibes he increasingly receives on visits to play other English teams.

"I get more abuse than anyone away from home," added Bale. "You get used to it. I suppose it's a compliment, that they don't want you doing anything good, they try to put you off. It's all good fun and games."
