Papa Wemba Dies at 64 years

papa-wemba
The African award winning singer, Jules Shungu Wembadio Pene Kikumba a.k.a Papa Wemba, is no more. Diabetes has claimed the life of one of the most popular performers in the continent.
Papa Wemba sprang into the spotlight with his unique vocal delivery in the music group, Zaiko Langa Langa in 1973. He later moved on to another band in 1974 called Isifi – Institut du Savoir Ideologique pour la Formation de Idoles - Lokole with “Amazone” as their greatest hit at that time. Barely a year later, the young talented singer moved yet to another group called the Yoka Lokola a.ka The Kinshasa’s Wa Fania All-Stars. It was in 1977 that Wemba formed the popular band, Viva La Musica structured around young talented artists including Antoine Agbepa better known as Koffi Olomide as the groups songwriter. The group gained an instantaneous success with hits like “Mere Superieure”, “Mabelle Mokozi”, and “Bukulak”.
After two decades, the superstar took off to settle in Europe where he became one of the pioneers of a new genre called “World Music” with his new group “Molokai International”. He explained that, “I’m a star in Zaire, a star in Africa but I decided to slam down on Zaire because I don’t want to play for Zaireans only, but for all humanity”
Beside the music, Papa Wemba tried his hands into films and received critical acclaims but also achieved both fame and notoriety in his male role in the 1987 film, “La Vie Est Belle. In 1997, he got another role in “Combat de Fauves” and another one in the 2004, “Les Habitat Neufs de Gouverneur” (The Governor’s New Clothes) and then in the 2012 Belgian drama, “Kinshasa Kids”.
However, it was not all rosy for the famous man because he tasted the unfriendly prison yards in 1976 for allegedly falling in love with a General’s daughter. He was arrested again in 2003 for smuggling hundreds of illegal immigrants into Europe for a profit. He was sentenced to three and a half months behind bars and fined 30,000pounds. To add insults upon injury, Papa Wemba was further banned from entering Belgium and France. A decision which, according to close sources, had a profound psychological effect on the man.
After his release from jail, Papa Wemba returned home a changed man. He claimed he underwent a spiritual conversion in jail and found Jesus. He released an album titled, “Somo Trop” carrying songs to that effect.
Zaire now known as DR Congo had gone through her socio-economic political turmoil with clubs banned, others turned into churches and a new ruler Joseph Kabila had taken over the late Mobutuand the French had named Kinshasa the new center of music in Congo. Then rose the new sound of fast paced party music – soukous- which Papa Wemba pushed forward until his death.
The great African  music icon will be missed indeed!

Adieu Papa Wemba,
RIP  Papa

Cross River Deputy Governor Commands Wife To Kneel Down And Apologize To Secure Her Marrige

Mr Efiok Cobham, the Cross River State deputy governor startled his household recently when he commanded his wife, Glory to kneel down and apologize to his protocol officer, Asikpo Okon for allegedly claiming that the protocol officer was in the habit of arranging girls for his boss.
eko

A reliable source said Efiok’s wife and Asikpo have been having running battles since 2011 when, the erstwhile Cross River Broadcasting Cooperation, CRBC correspondent who was covering the government house was said to be having a relationship with the deputy governor.

”Oga was very angry with his wife when she confronted Asikpo over the relationship between him and the CRBC girl that is covering his office”.
Our source said Asikpo who is a relative of Efiok had immediately gone to tell his boss his wife’s claim that he was now arranging the CRBC girl for him and the deputy governor angrily called on the wife and commanded her to kneel down and apologize to Asikpo or kiss the marriage goodbye

“Madam felt bitterly humiliated but she had no choice than to kneel down and apologize instead of ending the marriage because she saw the anger and seriousness on oga’s face”.

Glory who has since the second coming of Efiok as deputy governor, been keeping low profile even when her husband was made Acting Governor following his principal’s sojourn in the United States for four months, has been loudly complaining to her friends and relatives that she and her husband have not been having the best of times.

Obama Names Susan Rice As United State National Security Adviser

Susan Rice
Susan Rice

US President Barack Obama has formally announced his close confidante Susan Rice as his next national security adviser.

Obama made the announcement, which is seen as a major change in his foreign policy, on Wednesday.

He lauded Rice as an “exemplary public servant,” implicitly shrugging off Republican criticism of her qualifications.

Rice, currently ambassador to the UN, would take over from Tom Donilon in July, in an appointment which defies Republican claims that she misled Americans over the attack on the US mission in Benghazi.

He also nominated Samantha Power, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, former White House aide and Harvard professor, as UN ambassador.
Rice’s appointment as Obama’s top security adviser does not require Senate confirmation.
Obama had wanted to name Rice as his secretary of state, but she ran into heavy opposition from Republicans over remarks she made in the aftermath of the September 11, 2012 attack on the US mission in Benghazi, Libya, that killed four Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens.
Rice withdrew her name from consideration for the top diplomatic post in December.

Donilon, who served for more than four years as Obama’s top national security adviser, will leave in early July, a White House official said.
The shake-up comes as the Obama administration struggles with its response to the civil war in Syria. [Reuters]

Girl Accuses Father Of Sleeping With Her

abused-sad-child (1)
Revelation by a Primary 5 pupil of how her 57-year-old father had been having carnal knowledge of her in the last three months left many dumbfounded on Monday, at the Bar Beach Police Division.
Narrating her ordeal to the police, the primary school pupil said her mother brought her to her father after years of separation, adding that since the sacrilegious act began, her father had been giving her N200 as pocket money to school.
Unsure of who to confide in, she said she told her mother during one of her visits only for the father to dismiss the claim, stating that he could not bring himself that low as to having carnal knowledge of his biological daughter.
His secrets were however let out after the girl summoned courage to tell her head teacher, who invited the police.
“When I was reunited with my father, I was happy because I was living with an aunt in the village since my parents separated. He usually told me that I would take the place of my mother in his life since my mother had divorced him. I did not know what he meant until he started having carnal knowledge of me at night.
“At a point, I got tired and insulted him. Then, he started beating me and changed his loving nature. He would beat me and strip me unclad and have his way whenever he wanted.
“Whenever I attempted to scream, he would hit me harder and cover my mouth. He later apologized, telling me he would buy me a car. All I want at the moment is for my father to be punished for what he did to me.”
Her 57-year-old father, Nwafor Iko, however described her daughter’s claim as mere allegation, which is totally untrue. Ikoro said he only beat his daughter after he discovered she was in an amorous relationship with an unnamed man.
Police sources said the matter was immediately charged to the Igbosere Magistrate Court, from where Ikoro was remanded in prison custody until his application bail would be considered.

DANA CRASH: Missing Names On Cenotaph Causes Controversy In Lagos

dana
The list of victims of the ill-fated Dana plane which crashed over a year ago, engraved on the tombstone at the cenotaph located at the Iju-Ishaga site of the crash in Lagos, unveiled on Monday by Governor Babatunde Fashola, has brought up controversies, as the names of three of the ground victims are missing on the cenotaph.
The unveiling was part of activities marking one year remembrance of victims of the crash on June 3, 2012, at Iju, Ifako-Ijaye Local Council Development Area, LCDA.
Dana-crash-cenotaph-2-465x292
156 names appeared on the cenotaph, contradicting 157 names read out by Governor Fashola, while delivering his speech before the unveiling.
Speaking on behalf of the 30 victims (including 18 ground victims) he represents confirmed that apart from only 156 names appearing on the tomb, some names were wrongly included.
“The construction of the cenotaph was a shoddy job. To further tell you that it was a shoddy job, 156 names were pasted on the tomb as against 157, which the governor read while delivering his speech.
“The missing names are Paul Ebodage, Mrs. Habibat Yusuf and her husband, Mr. Muhammed Yusuf.
“They all died on the ground and their names did not reflect on the list pasted on memorial tombstone.
“The state government failed to follow the proper manifest, which they could have obtained from the management of the airline or solicitors handling the case for the victims’ relatives.
“It is an injustice to the soul of those who died in the ill-fated flight. We believe that justice should be done on such a sensitive case like this.
“I do not know what was responsible for this. Since last year, we have been engaging the management of Dana to include their names on the list.”
The operators of the airline however said that in the absence of the death certificate, they cannot actually determine whether those people actually died in the crash. Unfortunately, the DNA test was inconclusive. These people’s bodies were completely incinerated. Families went to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, for the DNA test but they could not get matching sample to compare with the samples collected from family members.”
“We need to get justice for the injured and deceased and their family members. Their memories cannot be wiped away easily because a lot of things are a stake. We will make sure that at the end of the day, the injured and the deceased are given their due honour.”

Federal Government Admits Nigeria’s Electricity Situation Is A ‘DREAM’

PHCN
Despite the huge investment in the power sector, only 25 percent of Nigerians currently have access to electricity, the Federal Government said, yesterday, in Abuja.
Speaking after a meeting of the Federal Executive Council, FEC, Minister of Power, Professor Chinedu Nebo, told newsmen that the power situation in the country in the last three weeks had been a “nightmare” due to a combination of system failure and sabotage.
“The power situation in the last three weeks is a nightmare. We have not had the kind of system failure like we have had in the last three weeks. For instance, Bayelsa State was knocked out for three weeks as a result of a breakdown on one of the transmission lines.
“It took about 12 days to restore power in the state using temporary measures. Another one happened in Kebbi. There is also man-made vandalism. Funding is part of the nightmare we are facing.
“It was thought that by 2012 the privatisation would have been completed, so there was no provision for maintenance in the budget. It has become very difficult for even routine maintenance to be carried out,” Nebo said.
He defended his allegation, during his screening for the ministerial appointment, that there were evil forces working against stable power supply in the country.
Minister of State for Power, Hajia Zainab Kuchi, also said out of the estimated population of 160 million Nigerians, only 40 million Nigerians enjoyed electricity, arguing that with the investment in the sector, the number of Nigerians who would have access to steady electricity was expected to rise rapidly.

The baby that didn't know it had been born: Astonishing picture shows newborn delivered INSIDE its amniotic sac

The ba

A doctor has recorded the moment he delivered a baby inside an intact
amniotic sac.

Obstetrician Dr Aris Tsigris published the photo of the newborn on his
Facebook page after delivering the baby via caesarean section in
Amarousion, north of Athens.

Because the sac had not been punctured, Dr Tsigris said the baby did
not even realise it had been born and behaved as if it was still
inside the mother's womb.

The amniotic sac is a bag of fluid inside the womb where the unborn
baby develops and grows. It is also referred to as the 'membranes',
because the sac is made of two membranes called the amnion and the
chorion.

The sac is filled with clear, pale fluid, in which the unborn baby
floats and moves.

The fluid helps to cushion the baby from bumps and injury, as well as
providing them with fluids that they can breathe and swallow. The
fluid also maintains a constant temperature for the baby.

The amniotic sac starts to form and fill with fluid within days of a
woman conceiving.

Amniotic fluid is mainly water but from about week 10 onwards, the
baby passes small amounts of urine into the fluid.

The amount of amniotic fluid increases gradually during pregnancy
until about week 38, when it reduces slightly until the baby is born.

Typically the amniotic sac breaks on its own during birth, which is
commonly referred to as a mother's 'water breaking'.

Dr Tsigris that the chance of the amniotic sac remaining completely
intact after birth was 'ultra rare' and he was left 'breathless' by
the sight of the newborn born on March 12, according to a report by
Nine News.

The doctor said there was no risk to the baby as it was still feeding
off the placenta and would begin to breathe as soon as the sac was
broken.

The photo has since been shared more than 8000 times.

Actress Jessica Alba has spoken out about her daughter Haven who was
born inside the amniotic sac in 2011.

She said at the time: 'The doctor had never seen anything like it
before. He grabbed the nurse and said: "Look at this!".

'I was in the middle of pushing and he told me to hold on a minute and
not to push.

'He was wearing basketball shorts and a T-shirt and said: 'Oh I have
to get my scrubs on for this!' The sac burst on its own after she came
out. It was a trip.'

In fact Jessica's experience inspired Haven's name.

She explained: 'When I was in recovery we still hadn't chosen her
name. picked her up and said she came into the world in her 'safe
haven' and clicked right then for both of us.'

Online Dating Leads To Higher Marriage Satisfaction and Lower Divorce Rates: Study

New research suggests that one in three people now meet their spouses online, and that those marriages are more satisfying and less likely to end in divorce than those that begin in traditional, offline venues. The study, published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and funded by eHarmony, examined the marital status and satisfaction of 19,131 people who tied the knot between 2005 and 2012. Of the nearly 20,000 respondents, 35 percent met their spouses online. Within that group, nearly half met through online dating sites, "whose number of users has increased dramatically just over the past decade," according to the research. Others reported meeting their spouses through social media, chat rooms, and e-mail, among other online venues. And while the research found that nearly 8 percent of marriages initiated offline ended in breakups, couples who met online reported lower rates of separation and divorce -- 6 percent. "What is clear from this research is that a surprising number of Americans now meet their spouse on-line," the research states, and "Meeting a spouse on-line is, on average, associated with slightly higher marital satisfaction and lower rates of marital break-up than meeting a spouse through traditional (off-line) venues." The authors point to previous research that indicates that people may be more honest when interacting online to explain the findings. Also, the pool of prospective partners is likely larger online, and those on online dating sites may be more focused on finding a long-term mate. "It is possible that individuals who met their spouse online may be different in personality, motivation to form a long-term marital relationship, or some other factor," lead author John Cacioppo said in a press release. The study notes that the majority of Americans do still meet their spouses offline, though some venues are associated with more satisfying marriages than others. Those who met in school, at social gatherings or places of worship or grew up together reported greater marital satisfaction than those who met at a bar, work, or on a blind date. "Marital outcomes are influenced by a variety of factors. Where one meets their spouse is only one contributing factor, and the effects of where one meets one's spouse are understandably quite small and do not hold for everyone," Cacioppo said. "The results of this study are nevertheless encouraging, given the paradigm shift in terms of how Americans are meeting their spouses."

Laide Bakare's Ex-husband claim to be the father of her new baby boy

Laide Bakare welcomed a baby boy on Friday May 31 in New York and now
her estranged first husband, Olumide Okunfulure (pictured above with
her) is claiming he's the baby daddy. The thing; Laide Bakare is
married to another man, Tunde Oriowo.

The first husband, Olumide, is claiming he was still married to Laide
when she fell pregnant and quit their marriage controversially without
hinting him. He's basically saying he's had intercourse with Laide in
the last nine months and says he's the biological father of the baby
boy.

Speaking from his base in Washington DC, the Ile-Oluji, Ondo State
born businessman said:
"I heard that my wife delivered a baby boy barely two months after she
made a release that we were divorced, and she's saying that the baby
belongs to one Mr. Tunde Oriowo. That's a lie, wicked lie. I'm the
biological father. I have pictures to show that we were always
together, but she deliberately kept the pregnancy out of my
knowledge."

He however said, "in other words, it might be the result of her
extra-marital affair without my knowledge, because there were cases
that she would leave me and our daughter in the US, come to Nigeria
all in the name of promoting her movies but staying with married men
in Lagos. I couldn't monitor her because I was not always in Nigeria."

Olu Mighty as Olumide is fondly called by friends vowed to take legal
action, as well do DNA test to ascertain the child's paternity.
According to him;

"I don't want to put laws into my hands. So, I have already notified
my lawyers in the US and already contacted my lawyers in Nigeria about
the matter, because she has many questions to answer. If she wants to
prove herself right, I challenge her to go for DNA test because that
would unveil the true father of the baby."

Olumide, the father of Laide Bakare's first daughter, Similoluwa
equally noted that he's still legally married to the actress, saying
that:

"She's still my wife. We're legally married. She came to the States to
deliver using my surname and my green card. It's just unfortunate
she's using all the things I did for her to favour another man. So,
our marriage is intact, legally. And if she wants to quit, legal
action must be taken."

I want a Forward Role NOT Midfield- Wayne Rooney to Arsene Wenger

Arsene Wenger has been given a fresh boost in his bid to sign unsettled Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, after he spoke of his desire to play as a centre-forward. The Gunners manager is on the lookout for a new attacking spearhead this summer, with Gonzalo Higuain, Steven Jovetic and Michu all on the shopping list. But it is the 27-year-old Rooney's admission that he is after a lone striker's role that could shoot him to the top of Wenger's targets. The striking berth at Manchester United has been filled by ex-Arsenal star and Premier League top scorer Robin van Persie this season, with Rooney lending support from a deeper position. While the England forward - who scored a brilliant solo effort in the 2-2 draw against Brazil on Sunday night - would be happy to fill that position in the future, he is keen to have more chances to play up front beforehand. 'In the years to come, that might be somewhere I could play, but, right now, I'm definitely a centre-forward. I'm after more goals.' Rooney told FourFourTwo magazine. 'I've played up front on my own a few times for Manchester United and it's a role I'm very comfortable with and have no problems playing. 'When you play as a target man, you have to stay up front and help the team out by holding the ball up and waiting for support. That all comes with experience. 'It's a good role for me to play, and hopefully I can continue doing well there.' Wenger had previously given a clear indication that Arsenal will be part of the race to land Rooney, should he leave Manchester United this summer. Sportsmail exclusively revealed last month how the Gunners were prepared to offer Rooney a package of around £170,000-per-week and a multi-million pound signing on fee - plus the security of a five-year contract - in an attempt to persuade him to take a pay cut from his current £250,000-per-week deal at Old Trafford, which has two years left to run. And speaking to Al Jazeera this week, Wenger said: ‘Rooney could be an interesting player for everybody in the world, who would turn him down? Swansea's Michu is another shock name on Wenger's shopping list, with Sportsmail revealing that a move for the striker has been discussed by the Arsenal boss and his scouting team. The prolific Spaniard enjoyed a fine first season in England following his £2 million move from Rayo Vallecano, scoring 22 goals. And Arsenal, who have followed the 27-year-old since his impressive displays at the start of the season, have a concrete interest in the striker. Source: Sport mail

World cup qualifier: Nigeria Top Group F as Ahmed Musa scored a victorous goal

Nigeria are top of Group F of the African qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup, beating hosts Kenya 1-0 in their second leg tie in Kasarani on Wednesday. Nigeria now have eight points from four matches, while Kenya are bottom of the log with two points. The other Group F match between Malawi and Namibia ended goalless in Blantyre, leaving the hosts with six points in four matches. The Super Eagles had a tough day with their hosts as the Kenyans tried all they could to exploit their home advantage in front of a capacity crowd at the Moi International Stadium. But all the visitors needed was an 81st minute strike from CSKA Moscow's Ahmed Musa to give Nigeria the needed victory. Nigeria's next World Cup qualifier will be against Namibia in Windhoek on June 12. After that, the African champions travel to Brazil for the FIFA Confederations Cup which holds from June 15 to 30.

Van Persie Claims Arsenal board played games with His move to United,

Robin Van Persie has accused Arsenal's board of 'playing games' over
the transfer saga that left him fretting over his dream move to
Manchester United.

The 29-year old striker's refusal to sign a new contract at the
beginning of July signalled his intent to quit the Emirates, and he
subsequently admitted that 'the little boy inside me was screaming Man
United.'

He still faced an anxious six-week wait before joining his club of
choice, though, as Arsenal used strong interest from Manchester City
and Juventus as a bargaining tool in negotiations over the fee.

Scroll down for video

United finally agreed to pay £24million and while his contribution to
their Barclays Premier League title success may represent value for
money, it was still seen as a lot for a player nudging 30.

As Van Persie looked back on his anxious wait to become Sir Alex
Ferguson's stellar signing of last summer, he described how
brinkmanship in the Emirates boardroom left him on tenterhooks.

'It was because it wasn't only me who decided where I went to play,'
the Holland striker said, in an interview with MUTV. 'I also depended
on my former club as well and how they saw it. And then of course you
always have these games that the directors play.

'It's a bit like a rollercoaster. Some days it is looking good and
other days it is worse. You don't really know what to expect because
things can change so quickly. It normally depends on the player and
the two teams, but in my case, there were two other teams involved as
well.

'One was City and the other one was Juventus. So it was a bit hectic
but I always wanted this transfer from day one. Me and Sir Alex knew
that it would be a bumpy road but I think that it shows that if you
really want something then nothing is impossible. I am glad it
happened.'

Van Persie recounted the moment he was finally able to heave a sigh of
relief and begin thinking about spearheading United's attack.

'I was in the coach and just about to play with Holland,' he said.
'There are no phones allowed in there but I just kept it on me just in
case.

'When I heard a small buzz, I looked at it and saw a text from my
agent that read, "The deal is done, enjoy the game."

'It was a big relief. I wasn't fined for using my phone either! It was
weird because they announced it on TV during the game, which I didn't
know - I thought it was only me who knew. From that moment, everything
went so quickly.

'The next day, I had to come for my medical. I went by train from
Brussels to London to get my bits and pieces and then on to
Manchester. The next one-and-a-half days was very hectic. I had my
first training session, and then two days later, we had to play
Everton.

'When you go to high school and you are about 12 years old, you wake
up early and are nervous about seeing your new class-mates. It was
very similar, although I knew most of them.

'But it was like that. I came in, gave everyone a handshake and we had
some jokes and some smiles, so it felt good from day one.'

HORRIFYING! Woman Gathers Her Family To Pray Just Before Shooting Them.

Hours before she killed her two sons, her ex-husband and her stepmother and tried to frame it on one of the slain children, Susan Hendricks gathered her family together to pray. She said she was worried about her older son, Matthew, because he seemed so down after several people forgot his birthday the day before.

"I know it sounds pretty fricking bizarre, but we pray a lot as a family," Hendricks told investigators in a room at the Pickens County Sheriff's Office, just hours after authorities discovered the bodies.

They all got on their knees and held hands, Hendricks said. Less than 12 hours later, she said, she found Matthew, 23, dead from a gunshot wound to the head. When paramedics who rushed to the home found the bodies of her other family members, Hendricks claimed Matthew had first killed them before turning the gun on himself.

In April, Hendricks pleaded guilty but mentally ill to all four of the Oct. 14, 2011, slayings and will spend the rest of her life in prison with no possibility of parole.

The audio of her three-hour interview with investigators, as well as 324 pages of documents and more than 600 crime scene photos, were released for the first time in response to a Freedom of Information Act request from The Associated Press.

The documents include details on Hendricks' suicide attempt behind bars nine months after her arrest, as well as the fact that her younger son, 20-year-old Marshall, had just moved back home two days before the shootings. They also revealed that Hendricks had papers from insurance policies and wills spread throughout her motel room at the time she was taken into custody.

Hendricks' acquaintances, whose statements are contained in the documents, said she kept large insurance policies on all the victims, fired gunshots at her sons' feet when she was angry, and would often remind people that she shot and killed a man who broke into her home in 2006. She claimed self-defense and was never charged in that killing.

The ballistics and other crime scene reports contained in the documents detail a quick, brutal ambush. Matthew and Hendricks' 64-year-old stepmother, Linda Burns, were killed in the Liberty home they shared with Hendricks, while Marshall and Hendricks' 52-year-old ex-husband and the father of her sons, Mark Hendricks, were killed in their own home next door.

Blood stains and three cartridge cases show Hendricks cornered Marshall in a hallway between his bedroom and a bathroom. He eventually got around her but she managed to fire one more shot that took him down. He died on the front porch, where he was covered with a sheet. Mark Hendricks was killed lying on the couch.

A report from the crime scene said Burns' body was covered up in her bed as if she were sleeping. Five cartridge cases were found in and around a closet in her room. Matthew Hendricks was found in his bed with one gunshot wound to his head. His body had also been covered up.

Hendricks' sister Evelyn Burns told police it was she who dialed 911 after Hendricks called her and casually remarked during what started as a routine chat that her son had shot himself.

In her interview at the sheriff's office, when she still was claiming Matthew committed suicide, Hendricks explained why she didn't call authorities immediately.

Punishment: Hendricks pleaded guilty but mentally ill to four counts of murder and accepted a life sentence in a plea bargain

Kenya Captain Vow That The Harambee Stars will Gun The Super Eagles down

Kenya captain Victor Wanyama is confident that Harambee Stars will floor Nigeria's Super Eagles in the 2014 World Cup qualifier at Moi Kasarani Stadium today.

The Celtic midfielder says the outcome of the first leg fixture in Calabar, where Nigeria needed a late goal to deny Kenya, will be a key motivator when the two sides clash again. Cafonline.com spoke to Wanyama ahead of the match.

In a pre-match chat with Cafonline, the Celtic of Scotland said, "we started well against Nigeria in Calabar and we therefore, expect to continue with the same performance at home. Overall we dominated proceedings in Calabar and scored a wonder goal through Francis Kahata.

We were let down by lack on concentration that allowed Nigeria to level matters. We want to keep on with that spirit and looking at the players' in camp, they have strong belief that a win is possible."

Wanyama admitted that being the captain of the team has put some pressure on him but sounded optimistic

"It is a difficult position to take because it comes with a lot of responsibility but I am ready to rise up to the occasion.

I was handed the armband during the match in Calabar after Oliech had been substituted though it was for few minutes. We will only play as a team and try to avoid the issue of who is the leader on the pitch because every player is a leader in such big assignments.

Thisday Office Was Bombed To Appease Allah, Witness Tells Court

The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, yesterday, heard how alleged kingpin of the Boko Haram sect, Mustapher Umar, bombed office of Thisday Newspaper in Kaduna State with 12 camp gas cylinders in a bid to appease Allah.

Justice Ademola Adeniyi, who admitted a burnt Honda Car, with number-plate AL-306-MKA, allegedly used to perpetrate the terrorist act on April 26, 2012, further heard how the accused person cried bitterly when he was rescued from the burning car, saying they denied him the opportunity of inheriting 72 virgins in heaven.

In a bid to prove the complicity of the accused person, the Federal Government brought a senior police officer that is charged with the responsibility of keeping exhibits recovered from terror suspects to testify before the high court.

The masked witness, PW-8, who told the court that the accused person had intended to carry out a suicide attack, produced the burnt Honda car, the discharged cylinders, half-charred 25 litter jerry-can that allegedly contained fuel, and persuaded Justice Adeniyi to move the court outside to inspect the terror items.

Besides, he showed the trial judges who was accompanied on the inspection tour by lawyers and journalists, the foot wear the accused person discarded in his attempt to escape after he was caught by angry mob within the premises of SOJ Plaza in Kaduna State where the attack occurred.

Aside Thisday, two other media houses affected by the explosion which reportedly led to the death of about 10 persons, were the Moment and Sun Newspapers, which offices were equally situated at the said SOJ plaza.

Convinced that the items brought to court were worth taking into cognisance in determining the culpability of the accused to the one-count terrorism charge preferred against him by the government, Justice Ademola admitted them into evidence.

While he entered the cylinders as exhibits MU 7-18, Justice Adeniyi marked the charred can as exhibit MU-19; the burnt Honda car was admitted as exhibit MU-20.

Besides, the federal government, through the police, persuaded the court to watch a video clip where the accused person confessed that he was sent to bomb Thisday Newspaper, owing to a report he said did not only put Islam in false light, but greatly insulted Prophet Mohammed.

The accused person in the video, said his action was to avenge the insult meted out on "Allah" by the media outlet which he said did not deserve to exist.

The accused, who spoke in Hausa language, said he knew those that also bombed the Abuja office of Thisday Newspaper, saying the attack was equally as a result of the "sins" the media house committed against Islam.

Victoria Beckham arrives on the arm of son Brooklyn at Glamour Women Of The Year Awards

She's always the envy of every woman in the room when she arrives to
red carpet events on the arm of her husband David - but he's not the
only looker in the family.

But on Tuesday night, Victoria Beckham had a different date, as she
arrived to the Glamour Women of The Year Awards accompanied by her
eldest son Brooklyn.

And his proud mother couldn't help but gush over her son as she
accepted her award for Woman Of Decade, praising him as the 'most
handsome man in the room'.

Scroll down for video

The 14-year-old looked dapper in his suit and tie as he made his
entrance with his 39-year-old fashion designer mother to the party,
held at Berkeley Square Garden.

Teenager Brooklyn may have been slightly embarrassed by his mother's
comment, but he certainly impressed many of those present with his
poise and calm demeanour as he acted as his mother's escort for the
night.

Brooklyn posed confidently beside his mother and later watched on as
she collected the Woman of The Decade Award, looking much older than
his 14 years.

Accepting her award, Victoria kicked off with a risqué joke as she
adjusted the microphone saying: 'I need to raise this up, I've never
had to do that before'... at which she collapsed in embarrassed
giggles forcing her to apologise to her son.

Brooklyn had already sat through rude speeches made by Michael
McIntyre, Graham Norton and Miranda Hart - who swore and made
reference to being 'shitfaced', farting and generally turned the air
blue.

She paid tribute to her Spice Girls past by saying: 'I want
congratulate all the women. I love to support women. Girl power!'

She added: 'Thank you to Brooklyn, my date tonight and the most
handsome man in the room, even though he's avoiding his homework.
Thank you to mum and dad, my husband who supports my dreams, and Simon
Fuller.

'What an an amazing 10 years. I feel blessed to have had two careers
and in ten years I will be nearly fifty!'

Victoria stuck to her signature black for the occasion, opting for a
loosing fitting trouser and top combination.

The mother-of-four teamed her wide-legged pants with a strapless
scallop neckline top, highlighting her toned arms and back.

While the outfit could easily be one of Victoria's own designs, it was
in fact by Belgian designer Maison Martin Margiela.

But she stuck to her brand when it came to her clutch for the evening,
and carried a hard gold number from her own range.

The only colour Victoria sported was a matching blood red manicure and
pedicure for the occasion.

For make-up she stuck to her signature copper coloured smoky eyes, and
wore her long hair loose, and swept over her left shoulder.

The footballer, who has sons Brooklyn, 14, Romeo, 10, and Cruz, eight,
as well as 22-month-old daughter Harper, with Victoria, added:
'Victoria's still just as beautiful today, I'm not sure that's the
case with me!'

And Victoria was equally full of praise for her spouse, insisting that
his retirement from professional football by no means signals the end
of his career.

Speaking on the red carpet, Victoria said: 'I'm so proud of David and
everything he's achieved. I've really enjoyed supporting him for all
these years, cheering him on from the stands. But it will be great for
him to be home with us, we're very excited.

And his future looks so bright. He's so smart, he's got lots of very
clever ideas up his sleeve and we're looking forward to our future
together for sure, and new things - there's so much you can do.'

Victoria also spoke about her recent move back to the UK, admitting
that while she is 'proud to be British', she will always consider LA a
second home.

She said: 'I love California, I was there last week. And it's really
good to have the best of both worlds - travel around. I have friends
there, I have friends here.

'It would be hard for me to say where is home because I travel between
the two. I'm very blessed, I'm very lucky.

'I love London, I love being here and I'm proud to be British. And
it's great, when the sun shins there's nowhere like London.'

Sneijder drops Chelsea hint as Holland star reveals: 'I still keep in touch with Mourinho'

Wesley Sneijder has left the door open for a reunion with Jose Mourinho at Chelsea. The Holland star enjoyed great success with Mourinho at Inter Milan, winning the treble in 2010 and starring in the triumphant Champions League campaign. And Sneijder admitted: 'I have a great relationship with Jose Mourinho. 'We have kept in contact since our days at Inter Milan. Does Chelsea need a playmaker? I'm not sure. In football you can never be certain of what will happen next but I'm very happy in Turkey.' Sneijder went on to speak about his time at Turkish champions Galatasaray, for whom he has played 12 times since joining from Inter Milan in January earlier this year.  Talking to SporX, Sneijder said: 'Reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League was our target and we reached it. 'The first leg against Real Madrid was disappointing, had we played better we could have progressed. The home leg with the twelfth man behind us was amazing.'

Cristiano Ronaldo plans to follow Portuguese coach Mourinho out of Madrid

Jose Mourinho has scotched hopes of unsettled Cristiano Ronaldo following him to Chelsea by admitted their relationship broke down at Real Madrid. The Blues were linked with a £60m summer move for the Portuguese winger along with former club Manchester United and mega-rich Paris Saint-Germain. But Mourinho, who began his second spell at Stamford Bridge on Monday, revealed that the pair fell out towards the end of his turbulent three-year reign at the Bernabeu because the the player 'thought he knew it all'. Mourinho told Spain Intereconomia: 'He (Ronaldo) had three great seasons with me, I don’t know if they were the best in his career because at Manchester United he had great seasons too. 'But I think we found for him a tactical situation that helped him express himself on the pitch perfectly as shown by goal figures. The only problem has been that a coach criticises him from a tactical point of view trying to improve him and he has not accepted it well thinking, perhaps, that he knows it all and that the coach could not help him become any better. 'But there is no other problem. The last two games, which have been the only games in which he has not played because he always played before and he always gave everything for the team, in these last couple of weeks he has had this pain in his back and I don’t ever doubt the players when they say they are injured.' Mourinho was also asked if Ronaldo’s closest pal at Madrid, Pepe, had betrayed him. He said: 'It is a good question for him not me. The only thing I can say is that he had one foot out of the club and I brought him back and I fought for him to be paid as a fantastic player like him should be paid. 'But he got injured and a kid 13 years younger (Raphael Varane) than him came in and I felt this other player deserved to stay in the team and he (Pepe) did not take it well. And then suddenly all the people that had done nothing but criticize him before were on his side (against me).' Ronaldo has indicated he will not renew his contract at Real Madrid beyond 2015. Real are determined not to sell the Portuguese this summer but United and PSG remain keen when he does come available. Alex Ferguson sold Ronaldo to Madrid in 2009, but the 28-year-old has admitted several times in the past few months that he is not totally happy in the Spanish capital. Portuguese newspaper 'A Bola' claimed that the Portuguese star feels he has not been treated well by the Real board despite his excellent performances on the playing field. 'A Bola' also stated that Ronaldo has reportedly been offered a €60 million signing-on fee if he becomes a free-agent at the end of his spell at the Bernabeu and signs for a certain newly-made-wealthy European club. Madrid President Florentino Perez had said that he expected Ronaldo to end his career at the club, but it now appears he could be looking for a new club in the next two years. If Ronaldo is true to his word, he would be leaving on a free, not something Madrid are likely to want after having splashed out £80 million on him. Whether he would move back to United now their manager has changed is yet to be seen, but he could emulate former boss Jose Mourinho by going back to a club he knew appreciated him completely. United are also considering a move for PSV Eindhoven's £25m-rated midfielder Kevin Strootman. The Holland U21 international had been on Everton's wishlist this year. Manchester City are ready to step up interest in Ronaldo's team-mate Pepe over the next week.

Barcelona is my Home: Fabregas rules out move to United or Arsenal

Cesc Fabregas says he wants to stay at Barcelona despite interest from Manchester United and Arsenal. The midfielder has struggled to hold down a starting place in the Barca team this season and had been linked with a move away from Nou Camp. Fabregas scored 14 goals this season and made it clear he has no intention of leaving Barca. When quizzed on his future, Fabregas told a Catalonian radio station: 'There is nothing to say. 'I’m very happy at Barca, and I want to stay for many more years to come.'Fabregas has been playing in a more forward role this season in the absence of the injured Lionel Messi. But with the Argentine’s return to fitness and the signing of Brazilian Neymar, Fabregas is likely to return to a midfield role should he remain at the club. Fabregas left Arsenal for Barcelona in 2011 and still has three years left on his contract.

United Kingdom bid to blacklist Hezbollah suffers setback

A British attempt to blacklist the military wing of Hezbollah has run into opposition at the European Union, in part because of the mystery that continues to shroud a key investigation linking the Lebanese group to an attack in Bulgaria last year, Independent.co.uk reports. At a meeting in Brussels, Britain put forward the bombing in the Black Sea resort of Burgas last July, in which five Israeli tourists, a Bulgarian driver and the bomber were killed, as a crucial part of its rationale for why the EU should designate Hezbollah a terrorist organisation. But several EU countries raised questions over the evidence linking Hezbollah to the bombing, as well as concerns that blacklisting the Shia organisation could create instability in Lebanon, where the Shia militia is a major political and social force. Although Israel blamed Hezbollah for the Burgas bombing, it took until February this year for the Bulgarian government to say there was a "justifiable assumption" that the Burgas bomber and two suspected accomplices were linked to the group. Little evidence has been made public to support the claims. The two fugitive suspects are said to be a Canadian citizen, born in Lebanon, and an Australian. But their real names, current whereabouts and links to Hezbollah have not been released. The identity of the dead bomber is also unknown. "An attack takes place and immediately all over the world, governments are saying it was Hezbollah," said Elena Pavlova, a Middle East analyst based in Sofia. "Yet, we have waited a year and still no one has given any proof." Along with local journalist Ruslan Yordanov, she found al Qa'ida-linked martyrdom videos online, claiming responsibility a day after the bombing in Burgas. They wonder whether evidence pointing towards alternative perpetrators was deliberately ignored to meet the demands of Israeli and Western governments seeking an excuse to ban Hezbollah. Bulgaria's former interior minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov, who was the public face of the investigation until his government resigned earlier this year, denies there was any pressure from international partners. "If we were under pressure we would have made an announcement earlier, but we waited until we had enough proof," he said. Bulgaria has previously said its investigators found two fake US driving licences used by the suspects, which it says were printed in Beirut. This was enough to convince a reluctant German government to support the move to blacklist Hezbollah's military wing, which would move towards cutting off its fundraising activities in Europe. The conviction of a confessed Hezbollah operative in Cyprus in March, who was monitoring the arrival of Israeli tourists to the island, added to the pressure. France agreed to support the move after Hezbollah announced last month that it was sending fighters into Syria to support the forces of President Bashar al-Assad. Hezbollah has denied involvement in the Burgas plot, and the attempt to blacklist the group has brought heated responses from Lebanon. "Any listing of the group as a terrorist organisation will be considered as political provocation," Lebanon's acting foreign minister Adnan Mansour, who is seen as close to the Syrian government, said last week. "We know there are Israeli pressures practised on more than one international side in order to accuse Hezbollah of terrorism." Enough doubts remain to make several EU governments uncomfortable about blacklisting the group, and the support of all 27 members is needed for the motion to pass. With Lebanon already suffering spillover from the civil war in Syria, several EU governments will remain concerned that further instability is not the answer. "The issue of political and security consequences" was raised, one EU diplomat said. More discussions on the issue will be held in Brussels in the next two weeks, with a decision possibly taken by the end of the month.
