(MUST READ)Jim Iyke and Nadia Buari wedding on the cards?

When the news and the video of Nollywood superstar, Jim Iyke's purported deliverance from demons went viral, some saw it as a gag by the actor to blow his image out of  proportion, while others felt there was more to it than meet the eye. Yet, there are some who felt the actor has shot his career into oblivion but one person who doesn't seem fazed by the development is his girlfriend, Ghanaian actress, Nadia Buari as the couple were spotted last weekend in Accra.

It would appear the actor is taking his 'delivered' status very seriously and keeping his itinerary not too far away from the confines of 'Holy' places as the report claims he was seen leaving a church after a night vigil with his girlfriend, Nadia.
Another report has hinted the lovers have already concluded plans to tie the nuptial in December this year, at least, so it would appear, since the 'demonic spirits' who have kept him away from marrying have been exorcised at Prophet TB Joshua's Synagogue Church of All Nations.
But one thing seems to have definitely changed about Jim, that is, his nature, which is now calmer, less asserting, and the former Sexiest Man in Nollywood is now more preoccupied with evangelising and preaching the word of God. One of his recent tweets was his way of getting back at his critics, but not the old-fashion Jim Iyke's way, but the 'delivered' Jim's way ""His mercy grants true happiness and salvation which you quest. It's devoid of popular opinion"

“I love to have Genevieve as my wife" - D'Banj Reveals!

Singer, Dapo Oyebanji, aka D'banj, finally opened up on his love life in a rare meeting with journalists in Lagos on Wednesday.

The self-styled Kokomaster was clearly in his elements as he talked at length, amid occasional bouts of laughter, about his career and other issues that were important to him. One of the subjects was about his rumoured relationship with Nollywood actress, Genevieve Nnaji.
Judging by the manner in which the actress' name kept popping off his lips, it was obvious that D'banj had a very soft spot for her.

Aware that the grapevine had bristled with the rumour that he was romantically involved with Genevieve, ever since she appeared in the 2010 video of his hit song, 'Fall in Love', the singer said the actress had played a role in his success.

"Apart from the fact that she is my friend, she has been a part of my success. There is no way you are going to tell my story that Genevieve's name will not come up because she featured in my biggest song of all time, Fall in Love. So if E True Story comes to Nigeria to interview me, she will definitely be called upon to tell my story," he said.

As if to confirm that there was more to his relationship with the actress than he had always admitted, D'banj added, "I would love to have Genevieve as my wife.  We never can tell what God plans for us in the future. I have studied her and I realised that anyone that has her as his woman has found himself a treasure. Just like the Bible says, any man who finds a wife, finds a good thing."
Perhaps the fans and admirers of the 'love birds' will have to brace themselves for a symbolic wedding of two of the most celebrated artistes on this side of the globe in the nearest future.

Meanwhile, D'banj plans to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his music career anytime in 2014. As expected, the singer aims to roll out the proverbial drums to celebrate in style what he describes as the overwhelming success of his foray into the Nigerian music scene.
The one-time harmonica wielding artiste has, indeed, made tremendous progress in his career since his monster hit, 'Tongolo' was released in 2004.
The artiste, who wormed his way into the highly competitive international music market after signing on to Kanye West's G.O.O.D Music in 2011, no doubt, has finally found his bearing as an entertainer since he parted ways with Mo'Hits.

"So much has happened in the last 18 months and I am very thankful to God. By the Grace of God, I have remained relevant for nearly a decade in the music industry and I have released hit songs every year. Also, I am glad that I have been chosen to headline the Hennessy Artistry this year. This is one brand that understands the importance of aligning with the entertainment industry.
"My career is barely 10 years old.                But with the success I have achieved so far, it feels like three decades already. Within my first 10 years as a musician, I have recorded the biggest song and shot the most viewed music video of all time, 'Oliver Twist'. I must say I am humbled and getting ready to take over," he said.

Without mincing words, D'banj noted that the history of his career and the resulting accomplishments will be incomplete without mentioning his humble beginning with the defunct Mo'Hits Records. The mere mention of his erstwhile colleagues, including Don Jazzy, seemed to awaken nostalgic feelings in him.
"If I say I don't miss Don Jazzy, I am lying. I have spent the better part of my career with him. I was married to him in a way (laughs). So I miss everything about Mo'Hits: the family, the movement, and the vibe of being in the studio with him. I miss the jokes and the arguments, but I have since keyed into the notion that nothing can stop a moving train.

"Nevertheless we can always do music together. The track, 'Top of the World' was produced by a Grammy Award Winner. The songs 'Finally' and 'Don't Tell Me Nonsense' was produced by my producer while 'Oliver Twist' was produced by Don Jazzy. So, why won't I have him on my 10 years anniversary album?
"I have never said I am a musician; I am an entertainer. Some people say I can pick up a microphone and become a comedian. Therefore nobody should come and ask if I want to go into acting because they should know I am already an actor. It depends on when the right script and concept lands in my hands.

"For now, I am concerned about achieving new things and breaking new grounds. By the time I enter Hollywood, I believe that I'll become as successful as I have been as a singer. The movie titled 'I am Banga Lee', starring Genevieve, to be released in 2014, won't be a bad idea," He said.
It seems that the world is at the Kokomaster's feet. Yet, he is not in denial of the fact that his fans in Nigeria are his greatest assets.

"The Hennessey Artistry Tour afforded me the opportunity to meet my fans here in Nigeria. I have not travelled across the country in a long while because I am abroad all the time. Most of my fans complained that they have not seen me since 2007 and I reallised that I need to be in constant touch with my fans down here."

Strike: We’ll Not Succumb To Blackmail, ASUU Tells FG

The Academic Staff Union of Universities said on Wednesday that the Federal Government's resort to blackmail would not force it members back to the classroom.
ASUU maintained that it would continue to stand by the sanctity of the agreement the Federal Government voluntarily entered into with it in 2009.

The chairperson of the union, University of Port Harcourt Branch, Prof. Antonia Okerengwo, who said this while briefing newsmen in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, explained that contrary to Federal Government's claim, the union was not fighting for itself, but for the revitalisation of tertiary institutions in the country.

Okerengwo expressed regret that rather than fulfill its promises to ASUU by reviving the Nigerian education sector, the Federal Government had resorted to blackmail.

The union was reacting to claims by the Federal Government that some politicians were encouraging university lecturers to disregard its appeal to call off the ongoing strike.

"The resort to blackmail is not the solution to the present impasse as we cannot run away from our problems. We cannot continue to pretend or wish that these problems do not exist. Practical problems need practical solutions.

"The media must also begin to ask questions about the cost of governance in this country so that we can see the alternative forgone in terms of education, healthcare and infrastructure," she added.

Describing the action of the Federal Government as tantamount to the "repudiation of an agreement that was negotiated and signed," Okerengwo said, "The negotiation itself took three years (2006-2009). As was agreed in 2012, evidenced by the Memorandum of Understanding, government promised to release N100bn immediately in 2012 and N400bn in 2013.

"It may interest you and the general public to note that the technical committee set up by NEC to review NEEDS assessment report also recommended that the sum of N800bn would be required in the short term of two years (N400bn per year) for revitalisation.

"But this has remained a mere promise, as only N100bn for 2012, which is 20 per cent of what is due as at today, has been released. The fact is that the N100bn is the amount due and outstanding since 2012. The question therefore is what about the N400bn for 2013?"

She explained that while a country like Ghana was earmarking 31 per cent of its annual budget to education, Nigeria was allocating a paltry seven per cent to the sector.

She disagreed with insinuations that the union had not been patient enough with the Federal Government, recalling that ASUU wrote over 52 letters to government and lobbied some members of the National Assembly on the need to revamp the education sector.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Labour Congress on Wednesday called on President Goodluck Jonathan to ensure a full restoration of normalcy into the troubled education sector in the country.

The President of the NLC, Mr. Abdulwahed Omar, who stated this in a statement issued in Abuja, said the call was necessary in order to prevent a total paralysis of the sector.

Omar said, "We urge Mr. President to muster all the necessary will and skill to confront the issues that threaten this vital sector.

"The threat of a total shut-down is present and immediate and this deserves all the urgency and mobilisation that Mr. President could muster."

The NLC boss noted that the development in the education sector was symptomatic of greater ills in the polity.

He argued that the strike by the ASUU for instance had entered the fourth month and had almost certainly disrupted an entire academic session with collateral consequences.

Tenant Abducts Landlord’s Daughter, Impregnates Her

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a 37-year-old man, Ajibola Idowu, for allegedly kidnapping the daughter of his landlord for three years. The suspect was also said to have forcefully impregnated the victim, Modupe Brown, during captivity.

The police said that after Brown had given birth to the child, Ajibola refused to allow the child access to immunisation.

As a result, the child was said to have contracted polio disease and subsequently became crippled.

Lagos Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Damasus Ozoani, said that Ajibola, was arrested along with his mother, Ebun, who allegedly conspired with him to commit the act.

He said, "Brown, a 400 level student of Business Administration at the Lagos State University, was kidnapped by Ajibola who kept her in captivity with his family for "three years between 2010 and 2013.

"On September 19, 2013, policemen from Area E Command, went to the Sagamu area of Ogun State to rescue the victim and also arrested the mother of the abductor, who watched over the victim. Ajibola was later arrested in the Idumota area of Lagos Island.

"During the three years, Ajibola kept Brown in three locations -Oshogbo, Osun State, where she spent six months; Bariga, Lagos, where she spent six months; and Sagamu, Ogun State, where she spent about two years.

"Ajibola forcefully impregnated Brown while in captivity. She delivered a baby girl, who later became deformed as a result of Ajibola's refusal to have the baby immunised against the Polio virus."

While speaking with our correspondent, Brown described her ordeal in the hands of her abductor as a journey through the valley of the shadow of death. She said she was abducted at her father's house in the Ebute Meta area of Lagos State.

She said, "I can't even remember how he kidnapped me. All I know is that he held me captive for three years. It's as if I was under a spell. Even when I was going to give birth, he did not allow me to go to a hospital. The baby was delivered at home and he was the one giving me medication.

"Even one day, when state officials came to the area to immunise children, he said he would not allow the child to be immunised, saying the drugs had been poisoned. Once, when I tried to leave, he threatened to kill me."

We learnt that during her time in captivity, the victim's parents, who are retired civil servants, searched hospitals, mortuaries, police stations and churches for her all to no avail.

The victim's father, Idowu Brown, said he had no clue that Ajibola was the abductor. He said, "I never knew it was Ajibola that kidnapped my daughter. He was my tenant for six years and greeted me every day. We even used to share jokes. He was aware that I had been looking "for my daughter for three years but he never said anything.

"When we could not find her, I reported the matter at FESTAC Police Division. It was in September this year that we heard from our daughter for the first time. She told us that she was in Sagamu and my wife went there.

"There we met Ajibola's mother. That was how we found out that he (tenant) was the one behind the whole thing."

The suspects however denied abducting the landlord's daughter. Ajibola's mother claimed her son and Brown were lovers, who decided to elope, maintaining that the case was not an abduction.

She said, "They were lovers. I never got involved in their matter until the child was born. I went to stay with them for about seven months to take care of the child, who was very ill. A few months after I left, they moved in with me at my three-bedroom house at Sagamu because they had been evicted.

"Ajibola was not staying with us because his business was in Lagos but I was with Brown "most of the time. Many times, I would ask her about her parents and when I could meet them but she kept on giving silly excuses until the day her mother came to my house with policemen."

Ajibola, who is into satellite dish installation, said the plan to elope was hatched by Brown who paid N200, 000 into his bank account. The money was said to have been meant for her school project.

He said he could not understand why she would make such allegations against him.

"I did not kidnap her; we were lovers and decided to elope. Even when she was at my house, she used to make calls to her relatives telling them that she was alright," he said. -Punch Metro

Brave 7yr Old Boy Leads Police To Smash Lagos Kidnap Syndicate OCT 10

A university graduate and two other suspects were on Wednesday paraded by the Lagos State Police Command, following their arrest, by a tip off from a seven-year-old victim.
The graduate of Economics of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Gbenga Sholaja; Olalekan Benjamin and Samson Shomorin, who specialise in kidnapping little boys, were arrested by men of the Igando Police Division and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja, Lagos.

The victim (name withheld) was said to have been held hostage at Benjamin's father's house at Ikotun, Lagos.

The child, who was later released after ransom was paid by his parents, was said to have memorised the house address where he was kept. It was the child who led police officers to the same house where Benjamin was arrested.

Sholaja, who wept profusely during his interview, said that he was pushed by unemployment into kidnapping. He said, "I have a Second Class Upper (Division) in Accounting and have completed my National Youth Service Corps programme.

"I went into kidnapping because since I finished my NYSC in 2011, I have been unable to get a job."

An ex-convict, who was remanded in prison for kidnapping three years ago, Benjamin, said he met Sholaja at OOU while he was trying to gain admission into the school.

He said, "I was a casual worker at a factory in 2007 before I was sacked; I earned N300 per day. After staying idle for some months, I met a friend, Muyiwa, we were carriers of frozen fish at Apapa. He introduced me to Taofeeq.

"One day, Taofeeq brought a small boy to my house and asked me to take care of him. He claimed that the boy was his younger brother; he was about seven years old. The boy stayed in my house with my family and was well taken care of for four days. Taofeeq even sent money for his upkeep.

"When Taofeeq went to collect N150, 000 ransom, he was arrested by SARS and he led them to my house. We were charged and sent to prison in November 2009. In September 2010, we were released because the complainant refused to show up in court."

Benajmin and his wife, upon his release, then moved to his father's house at Ikotun area of the state. In 2010, he was said to have met Sholaja in OOU, where he went to write the post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

The 30-year-old claimed that Sholaja invited him to take part in another kidnapping; he said Sholaja had read about Benjamin's arrest in the newspapers.

Benjamin said, "We would kidnap one boy and we would keep the boy in his (Sholaja') mother's house at Owode Ijako.

"After a week, the boy's parents paid the money. We were given N100,000 and my share was just N40,000."

Describing their modus operandi, Benajmin said they usually kidnapped children while on their way to or from school. All suspects were said to have collected a total of N260,000 on two separate occasions, to secure the release of two boys.

Benjamin said that he befriended potential victims by buying them biscuits on their way to school, thereby earning their trust.

He said, "It was the last kidnap that got us into trouble. I drove away not knowing that the boy memorised my father's house address, where he was kept.

"After he was released, he led policemen to the house and I was arrested along with my dad but my dad was later released on bail."

Shomorin, on his part, confessed to kidnapping three boys. He urged the government to pardon them, promising not to go back to crime.

Lagos Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Damasus Ozoani, said the suspects were arrested on September 29, 2013.

Ozoani said, "They confessed to have kidnapped three children -one from Omole Phase 1; one Kola at Alagbado area and the last one in Owode Ijako, Ogun State, and various amounts of money were collected as ransom." -Punch Metro

So Sad!!! Another Plane Crash Survivor Dies

Culled From PM News

One of the remaining six survivors of last Thursday's plane crash has died, an official at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, confirmed on Wednesday.
The latest casualty has increased to 15 the death toll of the Associated Airline plane crash which happened at 9.32 a.m. on 3 October.
"There are five survivors left now. The survivor that died was in intensive care unit. There were two of them there, both have now passed on," the official said.
The official said Feyi Agagu, son of Olusegun Agagu, who was also involved in the crash, is doing very well. The reliable source did not want to be mentioned.
The Brazilian made Embraer 120 plane crashed last Thursday less than three minutes after take off with 20 souls on board. While 13 died on impact, seven were taken to three different hospitals in Lagos. Two of them have passed on.
While relatives of the dead are mourning, the Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Adaeze Oduah, has been excoriated for blaming God for the crash.
"We do not pray for accidents but they are inevitable. But we will continue to do everything to ensure that we do not have accidents. But an accident is an act of God," she said.

PHOTO: Driver’s Wife Delivers Quadruplets, Begs For Help

A Lagos driver, Kehinde Tijani, and his wife Grace, were recently blessed with a set of quadruplets at Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, Idi-Araba, Lagos, on October 1.
photo
They already have three sons before the new additions.
Ironically, what should bring joy is gradually becoming a source of worry for this couple, as Kehinde, a driver and Grace, a small-time caterer, were already living from hand to mouth before the four extra mouths put them at crossroads.
The family presently resides in a tiny, rented one-room apartment at Ajangbandi in Okokomaiko, Lagos.
They expressed gratitude to God for the gift of children, but are saddened and fearful of an uncertain future occasioned by poverty and hardship.
Kehinde, who hails from OyoState, said they need financial assistance to take care of his wife and children.
‘I need help’
He said: “I need help. I am a driver. I started driving someone last year and my monthly salary is so meager I can hardly feed three children not to talk of seven.
“I need help please. I want the government and other people, who can, to come to my aid. I don’t have money, I don’t have a house. I need about N1 million to take care of the medical bills of the children and their mother.
“My wife had two Caesarian Sections and since the birth of the babies last week they have been in an incubator. Also, with the arrival of the quadruplets, we need better accommodation for the children.”
I was told I had fibroid— Mother
Grace said: “When I discovered that I wasn’t feeling too well, I went to a private hospital, where they asked me to undergo scan.
“After the scan, they told me that I had fibroid. Then I came to LUTH and after several tests and a scan, it was revealed that I was pregnant with five babies.
photo
“On hearing the news, I got really scared and depressed because of our hard condition. Later, I had a partial miscarriage of one of the fetus because of the fear and depression.
“I have been in the hospital since July. That was three months before I delivered, because of my health conditions. All through this period, my husband had to struggle to make ends meet.
“Things have been difficult as he only earns N30,000 monthly, and we had three children before the arrival of these four.”
Grace from Delta state, said she has no history of multiple birth in her family.
She said: “I have been married for 10 years now. It is only my husband who is a twin. How can I take care of four babies at the same time?
“Please help us. The babies, three girls and a boy, have been placed in the incubator.
“The first baby girl weighed about 1.65kg, the second girl, 1.50kg, third girl 1.6Kg. The only boy tipped the scales at 1.45kg.”
At press time, the doctor that took the delivery was unavailable to speak on the babies chances of survival, but the spokesperson for LUTH, Mrs Hope Nwawolo, noted that the babies are in good health and medically stable.

8 Men Rape 18yr Old Girl To Death In Anambra

no to rape
Police detectives in Obosi, Idemili Local Government Area of Anambra State are now battling to unravel the circumstances in which Chekwube Mbaka, an 18-year-old girl left her father’s house to buy N100 garri to serve as dinner for her family but never returned alive.
The victim was allegedly gang-raped by eight coffin makers in an uncompleted building at Odume-layout in Obosi, Idemili North council area of Anambra State.
Chekwube, whose family hails from Ogboji community in Ezzagu, Ishielu council area of Anambra State, met her untimely death on the fateful day when she was on her way back from where she had gone to buy garri for the family.
Though policemen attached to Obosi Police Division have already arrested two of the suspects in their effort to untie the knot surrounding the gruesome murder of the girl, her family has remained in pains, calling for justice.
Narrating how the incident happened, father of the deceased, Mr. Mbaka told Saturday Sun how he sent his daughter out on the fateful day after he came back home and discovered that the house was empty and there was no food for the entire family to eat.
He said: “When I came back that evening from work, I noticed there was no food for the family, I managed to bring out N100 and gave to Chekwube to buy garri for us to survive that night, I never knew that evil was lurking around and that enemies of God are also planning on how to eliminate my daughter. She left without any premonition of evil but when we waited for her for too long, we became apprehensive that she was wasting time, initially, I was angry that she had not returned but when it got out of hand, I noticed all was not well with Chekwube”
He further disclosed that before the deceased left for the errand, her friend, a 20-year-old boy simply identified as Skido (not real name) had visited the family and volunteered to escort Chekwube. Since they were best of friends and known to the family of the deceased, they were allowed to go but the boy ran home weeping to report that over eight young men accosted them on their way home and forcefully took away Chekwube and disappeared into thin air.
According to the family, when Skido alerted them that their daughter was forcefully dragged away by the coffin makers to an unknown place, they immediately raised the alarm and shortly after that, they discovered the lifeless body of Chekwube, naked in an uncompleted building.
It was at that point that the family and sympathizers noticed that the deceased was gang-raped by the eight coffin makers now at large and in the process of preventing her from shouting to attract passersby, they held her by the throat leading to her death.
Her father further said: “We noticed fingerprints on her throat, that may be because they held her down to prevent her from shouting to attract passersby because the incident took place around 9pm, people were still passing. They defiled my daughter and killed her in the same place. We have alerted the police but we can’t stop crying for Chekwube, an intelligent and obedient girl who never gave anybody headache not even in the school nor at home”
When asked if he was suspecting anybody, Mr. Mbaka said he is suspecting the artisans living close to his house, adding that they might have conspired and masterminded the barbaric act, following the alleged regular sexual demands they had made to his daughter in the past.
However, the case has been transferred to the Divisional Crime Bureau, DCB of Obosi Police Division where our reporter gathered that Odume Obosi had recorded four violent rape cases leading to death, all within a space of three months.
Meanwhile, the Divisional Police Officer of Obosi Division, CSP Dimale J.O confirmed the incident and disclosed that two persons including one of the coffin makers had been arrested, adding that efforts were being made to arrest the fleeing seven coffin makers.

How Femi Kuti almost went crazy over reptile that entered his car on lagos third mainland bridge on Saturday

Drama ensued at the third mainland bridge over the weekend when a crowd gathered around the car of legendary Afrobeat King, Femi Kuti, to locate a Lizard that almost caused him an accident.
Narrating his ordeal, Kuti, who arrived late to the MUSON Center, where he was a guest artiste at the pre-event press briefing on the coming MUSON anniversary concert, described the experience as horrifying.
He said the lizard appeared all of a sudden, from the dashboard of the car, while he was at top speed, starring at him snappily before ducking away.
“You know, it could have been a disaster if the lizard had run through my trousers, climbing to my private part. You can imagine how jumpy I could have reacted, trying to protect my manhood. Because, that to me is an important part of who I am, I can’t joke with it. Evil people could be at work,” added the musician jocularly, still wondering how the lizard got into his car."

After the event, Femi insisted he will not drive the jeep till the Lizard was found!

Christians In Osun Protest Merger Of Schools By Aregbesola

image
Christians in Osun State, especially members of the Osun Baptists Conference, on Monday protested against the attempted merger of Muslim students wearing hijab with the Baptists High School, Iwo, under the new education policy introduced by Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
Aregbesola last week inaugurated a new education policy in Osun, which the governor said had necessitated re-classification and merger of public schools in the state to reflect the new education system.
The governor, who expressed worry about the protest, however, urged the people to cooperate with the school restructuring, saying the policy was introduced as part of transformation of the education sector by his government.
Aggrieved Christians armed with Holy Bible and Hymn books trooped to the Baptists High School as early as 7:30am and dislodged the students and prevented teachers from entering the school premises.
They said that the merger of the schools, if allowed to succeed, would obliterate the Baptist heritage and that they would not allow hijab-wearing students in a school founded by Christian missionaries.
The Christian protesters defied the presence of armed security operatives and insisted that they would not allow the merger to work.
Presiding minister for the 35 Baptist churches in Iwo land, Rev. Bayo Ademuyiwa, said the church had nothing against the government’s attempt to equip schools in the state but he said that the church would not allow any attempt to erase its identity and heritage.
He said, “Our forefathers and missionaries sacrificed their lives, resources and everything to establish schools, reputable schools with morals and values and that is why the Baptists in Iwo land are here to protect our schools.“Without any doubt, the Baptists in the state are known for excellence, decorum and dignity.
These virtues are highly cherished by the Nigerian Baptist Convention and this is the reason why the Baptists are making these two submissions which are, “Baptists in Iwo land say no to merger of schools and Baptists in Iwo land say no to the use of hijab in Baptists schools.
“While we welcome genuine efforts to provide modern infrastructures and equipments in schools in Osun State, the Baptists see merger of schools as a step in the wrong direction as it will rob us of our identity and bring more pains to parents and students.”
Chairman, Osun State Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev. Elisha Ogundiya, also said that CAN would not allow any programme to erase the legacy of the Church.
Ogundiya said, “We have maintained this stand from inception and we will continue to defend lawfully what belong to us as Christians in the state.”
“As a major stakeholder in the state, the leadership of CAN expects the state government to invite us to discuss this issue without delay. We wish to explain it clearly that at no time did the new leadership of CAN in Osun held any meeting with the state government on the issue of merger of schools.”
But the governor, in a statement by his media aide, Semiu Okanlawon, allayed the fears , promising that the interest of all groups, organisations, religious and social bodies would be protected  in the ongoing re-classification and reform.
He urged the people of the state to discountenance and dismiss “any untrue and baseless insinuation” critics of the government might be spreading across the state.

100 Days After, ASUU Marches On

One hundred days after members of the  Academic Staff Union of Universities embarked on a nationwide strike, the end is not in sight yet, CHARLES ABAH writes
In countries like South Korea, the first 100 days of a child is very symbolic. Within this period, the life of the child and that of his parents are often celebrated.
In keeping with the tradition of the people, prayers and various types of gifts are offered to the gods during parties organised to mark the event.
This is accompanied with much feasting in the child’s home. The purpose of such ritual is to increase the newborn baby’s chances of becoming successful on earth.Globally, it is also common among political appointees or government officials to celebrate their first 100 days in office.
For instance, President Barack Obama of the United States celebrated his first 100 days in office with pomp and ceremony. The period in the US serves as a benchmark to measure the early success (or otherwise) of  president. In Nigeria, President Goodluck Jonathan and many state governors also celebrated their first 100 days in office. Of course, the celebrations took place with much fanfare. Advertorials were placed in the newspapers and parties were held in government houses to mark the achievements of the political office-holders during their first 100 days in office.
Unfortunately, there are no celebrations today as Nigerians mark the symbolic first 100 days that lecturers in the country’s public universities embarked on industrial action.
The lecturers, who commenced the strike on July 1, are protesting the non-implementation of an agreement they signed with the Federal Government in 2009, as well as the non-payment of their earned allowances.
Many people are compelled to ask what the country, particularly the education sector, has achieved in the first 100 days of the ASUU strike. Since the strike is still in progress, analysts conclude that nothing significant has been achieved.
In their thinking, several dialogues and meetings targeted at resolving the crisis have failed to yield positive results.
Therefore, there is really no cause for celebration.
A lecturer at the Lagos State University, Ojo, Prof. Ademola Onifade, notes that contrary to expectation, the current struggle by ASUU has achieved nothing for the lecturers and public universities.
He says, “In politics and governance, politicians celebrate the first 100 days on the positive side. But here we are, nothing has been accomplished in this struggle. I suspect that the game plan of the Federal Government is to wear us out. The authorities do not want to address our requests. However, if their target is just to wear us out, they will not succeed.”
But judging by recent statements made by the representatives of the government, there is an indication that the crisis will be resolved.
Indeed, President Jonathan and Vice President Namadi Sambo have promised that the crisis would be over soon.
Earlier, the FG, acting through the Governor Gabriel Suswam-led committee, had released N100bn for infrastructure development in the universities and another N30bn for the teachers’ earned allowances. But the leaders of ASUU dismissed the sum as a token, saying it was comparable to a drop in the ocean of their requests.
While both parties continue to seek the best way to settle their differences, the mood in many homes and in the public universities affected by the strike remains sober.
Academic activities in these institutions are still suspended. The students and their parents are forced to deal with the frustration and feeling of hopelessness arising from the strike, just as the striking lecturers, who claim that they have not had any meaningful dialogue with the FG, continue to despair.
The lecturers have not been paid their salaries for the past two months. But this seems to be the least of their worries. The Chairman of ASUU, Obafemi Awolowo University chapter, Prof. Ade Akinola, who says there is no political colouration in their demand, notes that the body’s major concern is to save the universities from dying.
He says, “ASUU will continue to call on Nigerians to help beg the Federal Government to be patriotic and see reason in not allowing public tertiary education to die. The FG should honour the agreement mutually entered into in 2009 and further reinforced by the Memorandum of Understanding of February 24, 2012. It was in general to save the public universities from total collapse.”
Also, a communications specialist, Mr. Muyiwa Akin, thinks this is not the right time for ASUU and the government to trade blame. He says that both parties should find a mid way to resolve the crisis.“All the parties should realise that they should protect the interest of the students. In my thinking, sincerity is lacking in this matter. The signing of the agreement took place some years ago and if perchance, the FG is not able to meet its own side of the deal, it should be open about that.“Again, the government should show sincerity and commitment in funding education and keeping to agreements, just as ASUU members, who are seeking the improvement of the quality of education, should consider the fate of the students. For, without the students, there will be no ASUU and without ASUU, there will be no students,” he says.
Meanwhile, ASUU insists that the 100-day-old strike has no political colouration. In a statement by its National Strike Coordinating Committee, obtained on Monday, the union dismissed the October 1 broadcast of the President in which he referred to the strike as politically motivated.
The statement read, “The primary goal of our union is to work for the repositioning of the Nigerian university system for global competition in terms of comparable facilities and staff quality. This goal we have pursued with diligence as a trade union.
“The Umaru Yar’Adua/Goodluck Jonathan government did not accuse ASUU of playing politics all through the three years (2006-2009) negotiations that produced the 2009 agreement. As Vice-President, Jonathan made significant input into the negotiation process.
In 2012, when the MoU was signed despite doubts about government’s sincerity, President Jonathan did not impute political motives.
Even the landmark report of the Committee on the Needs Assessment of Nigerian Public Universities was not interpreted as political.“Why is it now when ASUU insists that the Federal Government should deliver on what it undertook to do under the 2009 agreement, the 2012 MoU and the 2012 Needs Assessment Report that the union is being accused of embarking on a political strike?
“ASUU members, and, indeed, progressive Nigerians, know too well that the accusation of politicisation of strike is a cheap blackmail. If anything, it is the Federal Government that is trying to whip up political sentiments over matters that are straightforward and clear to all and sundry.”

Nollywood Veteran Actor Pa-Kasumu Needs N12million to survive as He battles heart and liver diseases.

Nollywood actor Olukayode Odumosu, popularly known as Pa Kasumu, needs N12 million to address the health challenges that are pushing him to the brink.

He is struggling to stay alive at LUTH as he battles heart and liver diseases; "secondary prevention of repeat stroke," after battling a cardiovascular disease, otherwise known as stroke.
Speaking with The Nation newspaper, he recounted that his ailment began in 2009.

I am not tired yet; I still want to continue to make people laugh, but my failing health is a terrible obstacle." he said

I Have 168 children - African China reveals

It's either the PM New reporter that did the interview didn't hear right, or African China was just messing with him. Below is what PM News is reporting...
This may sound incredible but popular music artiste, Chinagorom Onuoha, better known as African China, insists he had 168 kids from different women before he got married.
Speaking with P.M.News Sunday in Festac Town, Lagos, Onuoha disclosed that he is not a sex-freak but he was unable to turn down sexual advances from his teeming female fans.
Onuoha, who sometime ago was involved in a sex scandal in the UK, said he decided to accept the pregnancies because he did not want the ladies to abort the pregnancies.
"It is not that I enjoy running after the opposite sex, but as a star, I always find them around me and there's no way I can just chase them away. As a matter of fact, I had an option of telling the ladies to abort the pregnancies but I know the Bible is against such."
Yeah right you have 168 children in your mid 30's, Mr China. Continue..

Raised in the slum of Ajegunle, Onuoha said he wonders why people castigated hip hop artiste, Innocent Idibia, better known as Tuface, for having children from different women.
With the sex scandal still haunting him, Onuoha warned people who may want to bring his hard earned reputation into disrepute to be prepared for war.

"My brother, some people may want to use the sex scandal against me but they do not know that they may incur the wrath of the law because I have been certified clean by a competent law court in the United Kingdom. Such people would pay through their nose," he said.

Commenting on how he is being perceived by his fans for fathering 168 kids, he noted that he bears no grudge over their reactions as he owes them no apology.

On his sudden disappearance from the music scene, he said he didn't go off the music circuit but had been in the studio working on a new album that is about to be released.

According to him, "I'm not finished yet, I am still in the music industry. My fans who want to see more of me can come to Ibiza Nite Club where I anchor a show."
He urged his fans to be prepared for his latest album as it would rock their world and the entire music industry.

"It is not as if I'm boasting but I have dedicated so much of my time and energy to it because I have already set a standard and that standard will not drop but will continue to rise because I am born to sing and entertain people."

How some students almost mobbed and cursed Yomi Fash-Lanso for refusing to sign autographs

Yoruba actor, YomiFash Lanso, was nearly mobbed by his fans at D’Rovans Hotel in Ibadan area on Thursday afternoon.
Eye witness accounts had it that Fash-Lanso, in company with one of his colleagues at a fashion school in the area, was sighted by few  students of the school and asked him and his colleague for autographs, but he bluntly refused their requests despite all pleas.
According to witnesses, his colleague complied while Fash-Lanso did not, prompting the school’s proprietor to appeal to him to give the students his autograph.

To the students’, proprietor’s and passers-bye’s amazement, the actor declined to sign any autograph, saying he would not give his autograph.
Within the twinkle of an eye,  amazement turned into fury as the fans nearly mobbed him, calling him names.
One of the witnesses said that  the actor’s reaction did not surprise him as he had heard from many that the actor was an arrogant person.
“I have always heard that YomiFash-Lanso is arrogant but I did not believe it until now. I used to like him, but with that display he showed, he’s really a ...”
Another quipped that; “I don’t understand why people would want an autograph from him. The guy is too full of himself and it’s not as if he acts that well. We have seen the likes of Oga Bello, Ogogo, Yinka Quadri and Funsho Adeolu come personally down to greet us and sign autographs for us here. It is a shame that an actor would display this kind of pride and arrogance to his fans. Doesn’t he know that without his fans, he is nothing?”
It took the intervention of the school proprietor, the actor’s colleague and some other people in the vicinity to prevail upon the fans who had made up their minds to deal with him.

"I didn't want to board the plane..." Feyi Agagu reveals how he survived and why Agagu’s casket was intact after plane crash

In a recent interview with vanguard, a close family friend of Feyi, son of late Chief Agagu, who is one of the survivors of the ill fated Associated Airlines flight, disclosed how Feyi and the other survivors cheated death and why Agagu's casket was intact!
Below is what a family insider Feyi spoke to said;
“The young man said that once they got to the tarmac before boarding and once he sighted the plane, what struck him was the seemingly very old look of the plane. Feyi said he didn’t like the looks of the plane. He also said but for the importance and significance of the trip, his inner sense didn’t feel comfortable boarding the plane.
“In fact, Feyi said he told another survivor, Femi Akinsanya, that the plane looked too old and he didn’t feel like boarding. But Feyi said he was told not to get himself worked up needlessly since this was not going to be his first time aboard a plane neither would this be the first old-looking plane that he would board. That was how he said he boarded the plane”.
“Feyi recounted how he and Femi Akinsanya boarded the plane and moved straight to the back end to take up seats. Why Feyi chose the back seat”, the source said, “was more a function of his state of mind about the state of the plane rather than a preference for taking a back seat.
“When they sat down, Feyi told me that he and Femi simply prayed that they should just take off and land safely, oblivious of what lay ahead of them. “Feyi said once they took off, everything happened so fast. What he also told me was that both he and Femi noticed what looked like a crack not far from where they sat at the rear end of the plane.
“He said everything happened so fast that by the time the plane crashed on the ground, it was that crack that had been noticed earlier that transformed into a gapping exit point upon impact on the ground.
“Feyi said the exit point created was where he and Femi escaped through”.
Also, explaining why the casket carrying Agagu’s corpse was intact after the plane crashed on Thursday morning, it was disclosed that the casket was latched to the hooks in the cargo compartment of the plane and was placed in the rear end of the plane.
People who sat at the back of the plane survived the crash, so the casket, which was kept at the back also survived the crash.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar, on Sunday announced Tuesday Oct. 15 as Eid-el-Kabir.

A statement issued in Sokoto by Prof. Sambo Wali, the Chairman of Sokoto Sultanate Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, said this followed the sighting of the crescent from across the country on Saturday.

"This is sequel to the declaration of Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, as the first day of Zul-Hijja, 1434 AH, by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar III.

Mother Sentenced To 15yrs In Jail For Starving 4yr Old Son To Death

An alcoholic British mother who let her 4-year-old son starve to death and left his body in a cot for almost two years was sentenced Friday to 15 years in jail.

Judge Roger Thomas said Amanda Hutton had failed "to fulfill the most basic responsibilities that you, as a mother, should have fulfilled."

The mummified body of Hutton's son, Hamzah Khan, was found by police at the family's home in Bradford, northern England, in September 2011. He had died in December 2009.

The judge said the boy was wearing clothing made for a 6- to 9-month-old child.

"Although it beggars belief that such a thing can happen, it has, of course, happened here," the judge said.

He told Hutton: "It has done so through your purposeful, persistent and gross conduct in failing in that most basic and fundamental requirement that is upon every parent, to feed her child adequately."

Hutton was convicted of manslaughter Thursday at Bradford Crown Court.

The judge said the 43-year-old mother of eight had an alcohol problem and that "you placed your own selfish addiction to drink well before your responsibilities to your many children."

The judge said Hamzah's body was only discovered after a rookie police support officer visited the house following complaints from neighbors about dirty diapers being thrown into their yard. The officer became concerned that something was seriously wrong.

Aviation Crisis: FG Suspends Dana Air Licence Again

Three days after a tragic crash involving an Associated Airlines plane killed 14 people in Lagos, the Federal Government, through the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority on Sunday night, announced the suspension of Dana Air's operations nationwide.

The decision to suspend Dana's operations came 24 hours after the NCAA grounded the operations of Associated Airlines, whose Embraer 120 plane crashed near a fuel depot two minutes after takeoff at the Lagos airport, leaving only six survivors.

The charter plane was conveying the remains of a former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Agagu, to Akure for interment. It also had on board 20 people, including officials of the state government, family members and friends of Agagu.

Also, 24 hours after the Associated Airlines crash, another major air disaster was averted when a Kabo Airlines' Boeing 747 plane carrying 512 pilgrims had a near-crash at the Sokoto airport with deflated tyres, damaging the airport's Instrument Landing System.

The Coordinating General Manager, Corporate Communications, Aviation Parastatals, Mr. Yakubu Dati, confirmed to our correspondent on Sunday night that the government had suspended the operations of Dana Air nationwide.

Dati said the decision was to allow the regulatory agency "conduct an operational audit" on the carrier and its planes.

The latest suspension of Dana's operations made it the third time the NCAA would be grounding the carrier over safety and other related issues.

On March 17, 2013, the government suspended the operations of Dana in order to "resolve certain safety issues," according to the NCAA.

Some days later, the government lifted the suspension thus clearing the carrier to resume operations.

The March 17 suspension came nearly three months after the airline resumed operations following a seven-month suspension after its Boeing MD-83 crashed in Lagos, killing 163 people

The government had on June 5, 2012 revoked the operational licence of Dana, two days after the crash in Iju-Ishaga, Lagos.

The government had also at a time directed Dana to pay compensations to the families of all the victims of the June 3, 2012 crash or risk severe sanctions.

It is unclear whether the latest suspension of the airline's operation is related to the issue of payment of compensation or whether the NCAA is having issues with it on the safety condition of its planes.

The Associated Airlines' crash in Lagos and the Kabo Airlines' averted crash in Sokoto have combined to raise tension in the sector as industry observers are beginning to raise doubts about the operational condition of planes flying in the country.

The flying public is also worried that the regulatory authority is not living up to its task.

Meanwhile, the Accident Investigation and Prevention Bureau has announced the commencement of investigations into the causes of the crash of an Associated Airlines flight on Thursday, and the near-crash of a Kabo Air plane on Saturday.

A statement from the agency on Sunday confirmed that the readout of the recordings of the Associated Airlines' flight recorders had started.

The statement signed by the Commissioner, AIB, Capt. Muktar Usman, said, "We have commenced investigation into the crash of the Embraer 120 ER aircraft marked 5N-BJY belonging to Associated Aviation Limited.

"Flight recorders of the ill-fated aircraft have been recovered and will be downloaded at the Bureau's newly installed flight laboratory at its Abuja headquarters. The readout of the recorders has commenced."

The statement added that of the 20 passengers on board the aircraft, there were only six survivors as of Saturday.

Associated Aviation Limited is a Nigerian registered domestic airline, which operates chartered and scheduled flights in the country.

In a separate statement, the AIB also said investigations had commenced into the incident involving a Kabo Air B747 plane, which occurred in Sokoto on Friday.

The aircraft, carrying Saudi Arabia-bound pilgrims, was believed to have burst tyres on landing.

"The AIB investigators have been dispatched to conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident to determine the probable cause. The investigation is not to apportion blame or liability, but to prevent future re-currence of similar incidents and improve air safety through safety recommendations," the statement explained.

It added that the AIB was charged with the responsibility of investigating aircraft accidents and serious incidents within the country, and where Nigeria's interest was represented.

20 Killed In Fresh Boko Haram Attack In Borno

At least 20 people were killed when Islamist group Boko Haram attacked a town in northeast Nigeria, triggering clashes with troops stationed there, the military said on Sunday.

Reuters reported that a spokesman for Nigerian forces in northeastern Borno State, which lies at the heart of a four-year-old Islamist insurgency, said the Islamists crept into the town of Damboa in the early hours of Saturday.

They killed five worshippers at a mosque as they said their morning prayers, he said.

"While they were unleashing their mayhem, troops … engaged the terrorists, killing 15 in the process while others fled," the military spokesman, Captain Aliyu Danja, said in a statement obtained by Reuters.

The military often gives significantly higher casualty figures for insurgents than for its own men, and it is usually not possible to verify them independently.

Despite a concerted military offensive meant to crush Boko Haram since May, it remains the biggest security threat to Africa's top energy producer.

Its targets have traditionally been security forces, Christians or Muslim clerics who speak out against it, but its fighters have increasingly turned their sights on civilians in the past few months – massacring hundreds in roadside attacks or assaults on Western-style schools they consider sacrilegious.

Nigerian fighter jets last week bombed camps belonging to suspected Islamist militants in northeast Nigeria in response to a massacre of students at an agricultural college that killed at least 41.

Missing Female Lawyer’s Body Found Mutilated In Her Office

Police in Abuja are investigating the suspected murder of a female lawyer, Mrs. Ijeoma Micah, whose lifeless body was found mutilated, yesterday, in her chambers in the highbrow Maitama area of Abuja.

Ijeoma, the owner of Micah and Micah Chambers, was found dead in her office three days after she was said to have gone missing.

Her husband, who it was learnt, arrived from London on Sunday morning, rushed to her office, as it was gathered that he had not heard from her for three days, only to discover her lifeless body.

He reported the matter to Area Command of the police in Maitama.

Contacted on the development, Commissioner of Police FCT, Femi Ogunbayode, said that from investigations, it was discovered that some men had called Ijeoma to her office for some business, which she went for and afterwards, nothing was heard from her.

Ogunbayode told Vanguard that as a result of the killing, a security detail that was attached to Ifeoma was arrested and was being interrogated for alleged complicity.

He said that since the security detail did not report the case to the police until her husband came back from abroad and discovered her body, he was therefore a suspect.

He added that the Forensic Investigation Unit at the FCT Command was already at the office, where she was allegedly killed and had commenced investigation into the matter.

Sympathisers in the area said that the Ifeoma's husband broke the door of her office and on seeing the lifeless body of his wife, almost killed himself while crying.

It was also gathered that Ijeoma's car had been missing from the usual parking spot in front of her office building.

ASUU: NUPENG Threatens Solidarity Strike

Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, weekend, threatened stop distribution of petroleum products across the country if the Federal Government failed to implement the agreement reached with the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.

Though no specific date was fixed for the commencement of the soliarity strike, the union said the strike became necessary in view of the lingering ASUU crisis which the government had failed to resolve in the last three months.

NUPENG President, Igwe Achese, who spoke at the union's National Administrative Council, NAC, meeting, weekend in Lagos, said NUPENG was not happy at the crisis facing public university system in the country.
He blamed the crisis on government's failure to honour agreements, lamenting that this had led to the proliferation of strikes in nearly all sectors of the economy since the beginning of the year.

According to him: "We appeal to government to implement agreement reached with ASUU so that students can go back to school. If the crisis in the sector is not resolved, we will soon direct our members to embark on solidarity strike."
Achese blamed the Ministry of Labour for failing in its responsibility to check the break-down and abuse of laws governing industrial relations practice in the country by employers including government.

"The Ministry of Labour needs to be proactive if we must get these issues nipped in the bud. The ministry also needs to make sure that agreements reached or communiqué signed are implemented.

"The ministry has a big role to play to avert strikes in the country. When unions begin to lose faith in the ministry that is when we have this kind of crisis. The labour minister should be firm in making sure that the right decisions are taken.

"As it is now, every activity in the Ministry of Labour is in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, which ought not to be so. The role of the SGF should be to intervene only when the need arises."

It would be recalled that the NUT last week gave the Federal Government two weeks ultimatum to honour the agreement it reached with ASUU or face total shut-down of the education sector in the country.

Sex Workers Take Over Lagos Banks At Nights

wpid-prostitutes.gif
Hello handsome. My name is Ella – Emmanuela. I’ll give you a memorable night. If you can’t afford an all night, we can have a ‘short time’ somewhere around. It’ll cost you much less. Just pay the security man there (pointing to a bank opposite) and it’s as good as done,” a call girl on Allen Avenue tells one of our correspondents.
A bank? Yes. By 4pm on any business day, the doors of banks in Lagos State, like in every other part of the country, are shut to customers. But by 10pm, many of these banks play host to another set of customers.
Saturday PUNCH investigation reveals that the numerous commercial sex workers who throng the Allen Avenue-Opebi and GRA Ikeja business districts in Lagos, make use of bank premises to service their customers.
The Allen Avenue and Opebi axis is known as a hub for commercial sex workers in Lagos mainland.
It is not strange to see scantily-dressed young women of all shapes and sizes parading both sides of the road at the Opebi Roundabout around 10pm every night.
As a man passes by in a car, some of them, with heavy make-up and brightly coloured glossy lips, will wave through the window, calling out to such prospective customer, with endearing words like “Hey gorgeous!” or “Hi handsome!”
Every night, this area is always a beehive of activities for these night workers and their patrons.
During a visit to a popular club in Opebi, where many of these commercial sex workers station themselves, Saturday PUNCH had a chat with a young man who confirmed that he had used the premises of a bank for ‘short time’ purpose.
Uche (not real name), 29, is a frequent patron of the Opebi club.
He tells Saturday PUNCH that no matter how tired he is after closing for the day in the insurance company where he works, he likes to visit the clubs in the area.
He says, “I was going home after visiting some clubs in Opebi one Friday night and I was bored. While driving through Allen, I saw a girl that caught my fancy and I stopped to talk to her. I knew I could not take her home. So, I asked where we could do a ‘short time’ and she pointed to a bank.
“I did not understand what she meant. There was an ATM at the front of the bank, so I thought she meant that I had to withdraw money and pay her first.
“But before I could say anything, she said I should go and talk to the security man at the bank and give him N500. She told me the guard would watch over my car as well. After we were done, I gave the girl N1,500. That was a funny time because we even broke the security man’s bench and had to leave in a hurry before he noticed.”
It was indeed a funny story. Saturday PUNCH decided to find out if the premises of some other banks in the area were being used this way. It turned out to be true.
Around 11 pm on a Friday, Saturday PUNCH correspondents posed as patrons of these sex workers.
At Allen Avenue, one of our correspondents signalled to a young woman who stood on the side of the road.
Saturday PUNCH observed that she she was putting on a silky top that was so short that it revealed her belly button. The shorts she wore was outrageously short as well.
She was Ella – Emmanuela. There was no doubt that that was not her real name. The young woman was very fair in complexion.
The discussion switched immediately to how much she wanted for her service.
Ella said, “I just came out and if I have to go home with any customer, I won’t collect less than N15,000 because that means I will be losing other customers. But we can use any of these places around for a ‘short time’.
“The bank?”
“Yes, we use them as well. That will be just N2,500,” she said.
Pretending that she was too expensive, Ella was dismissed.
But one of our correspondents approached the guard who sat on a plastic chair in the front of a new generation bank in the area and asked if he could use the premises for a short time.
“No problem bros,” he said, without any hesitation.
Asked how much it will cost, the guard says N500.
“What will happen if another person comes and wants to do the same here?”
“The person will have to wait now. Unless you don’t mind them doing theirs while you are still there,” the young man said.
Saturday PUNCH visited another bank in the area with similar request.
It turned out that if the price was right, the security guard there too would be willing to ‘let out’ the bank premises for the short service.
“Why didn’t you use your car if you cannot pay N1,000? The security guard, who wore no uniform, said.
When told that the car would not be comfortable enough, he seemed to agree.
He said he will accept N500 but he won’t provide a bench.
At one of the banks on Allen Avenue, however, a guard told Saturday PUNCH that one of the employees of the bank is a regular patron of a club around the area and he could not risk being discovered.
The young man, who identified himself simply as Joseph, said the part of the bank that he could have allowed one of our correspondents to use was not properly concealed from prying eyes passing by on the road.
Saturday PUNCH also had another encounter with a commercial sex worker who said her name was Sade.
At first, Sade said the ‘short time’ would be done somewhere at Ikeja Under-bridge but when she realised that our correspondent did not like the idea, she suggested the premises of a bank.
“We could go to the bank over there. I would give you value for your money,” she says, trying as much as she can to lure our correspondent.
But another commercial sex worker who was nearby had eavesdropped on the conversation.
She walked up to our correspondent and introduced herself as Jennifer after Sade had left.
Jennifer magnanimously advises that going to secluded areas with commercial sex workers was trouble.
She told Saturday PUNCH that some girls connived with street boys to rob their clients before, during or after sex.
Some commercial sex workers are also said to be adept at picking their clients’ pockets.
Jennifer said, “It is a good thing you did not go with her. When you go to somewhere scanty, some of these girls have area boys as friends who protect them.
“What they do is lure men to a secluded place and these men rob them. Sometimes, while having sex, they also pick pockets. I don’t do that.”
Jenifer confirmed that the sex workers had sex with men in the premises of banks around Allen and Opebi.
She said she had taken her clients to bank premises before.
“But most times, it depends on the security guard. They make money from it. Some of the guards make much more than their salary in a week,” she said.
At about 10pm on Monday, our correspondents also visited Isaac John, a popular area for night clubbing in Ikeja GRA.
There, they met some commercial sex workers waiting for customers.
Thinking she had spotted a potential client, a young dark-skinned lady probably in her early 20s walked up to the car.
She introduced herself to one of our correspondents as Ronke. For the night, Ronke said she would accept N10,000. After much debate and when she realised it will be ‘short-time’, she said she would settle for N3,000.
The venue was to a newly acquired property by a bank opposite a fast food joint.
Ronke said, “If we were to go home, it would have been N10,000 but since it is short-time, I will take you somewhere but you will pay me N3,000.
“I can also perform orals, but if you don’t want that, I can collect N2,000 and the gateman will collect N500. I can ask him to collect N300. He would watch the gate for us.
“The place was just bought by a bank. We use the place well so I am sure the man will cooperate.”
Ronke is not so pleased when her ‘potential customer’ promised to call her later that night.
On the same street, Emem, a fair and busty commercial sex worker corroborated Ronke’s claims that the security man will take home at least N3,000 a night.
She stated that they pay him between N300 and N500.
“If you are close to them you go in free at times or at a cheaper rate,” she said.
Emem is not sure if the security men of the banks patronise the sex workers as she said none of them had sought her service before.
However, the activities of the commercial sex workers at the Allen Avenue-Opebi business district seem to be under a heavy police protection.
This is why the commercial sex workers operate without fear in the area.
Saturday PUNCH noticed, on three different nights, that at least three police patrol vans would stationed in the vicinity of the roundabout where the sex workers paraded regularly.
On Monday night alone, there were five police vans in the area.
A young woman, who once visited a club in the area, told our correspondent about how the policemen threatened her with arrest because they thought she was a prostitute who had come there to operate without approval.
The young woman, who pleaded anonymity, told Saturday PUNCH, “I was going to a club in the area with a friend on a Thursday night and just a few metres from where some prostitutes stood on the sides of the road, some policemen stopped us.
“They asked who I was and what kind of job I was doing. I told them I was a student but they said I was a prostitute and will arrest me. I was confused because there were so many prostitutes around there whom they did not arrest. But because I was not known there, they wanted to arrest me.
“We had to go and call one of the managers of the club to convince them I was not there as a prostitute but was there with my friend to relax.
“The club man (manager) who came to my rescue said all the girls around there are protected. But a new girl who comes there to operate will be arrested. Such girls will either bail themselves out with money or with sex.”
Saturday PUNCH notices that the policemen were obviously well-known to the sex workers because of the way they related with them.
Whenever a vehicle passed by, they shone their flashlights into it to see who its occupants were.
But the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Police Command, Mr. Damasus Ozoani, said policemen in places believed to be the hub of prostitution in Lagos were only doing their legal duty.
“Of course, prostitution is still illegal in the state. But how do you prove those ladies you see standing on the sides of the road at that time of the night are prostitutes?
“Gone are those days when you could arrest people merely for wandering in the night. Policemen conduct searches in areas like that when they have genuine reason to believe that some people who have criminal intent may come there to operate.
“Those same ladies you see have the same legal rights to be protected by the police as you and I have. Unless the ladies are caught in sexual acts in a public place, one cannot conclude that they are prostitutes.”
Ozoani said patrol was usually intensified in places like the Allen Avenue-Opebi business district at that time of the night because of the tendency of criminals to operate there.
